it was actually pathfinder but i didn't want to come off as THAT much of a nerd 😂 i tried staking it first and it didn't react so our cleric blew it away with holy light doing like 160 damage on a very well timed critical. we then worked out that it just needed to be beheaded to kill it because of whatever type of vampire it was

It's primarily the fact that even though this game is still "early access" and not fully finished a majority of the playerbase is viewing it as a fully finished game that can be compared to the previous titles that had multiple maps with a variety of different types of areas on the map it's hard to try and tell them they're wrong besides to tell them exactly this

We will 100% be able to go back to the tutorial area within the year, and by January Next year or even this December we might see Old San Van across the bay be accessible when the bridge is finished being repaired

I think this is the game's biggest issue, personally.

It doesn't bother me because I'm a realistic skater who prefers to just flow around the map doing lines, so I wouldn't mind if the game didn't have a single challenge in it. But other games aimed at realistic skaters like me (SkaterXL, Session etc) only have a very small niche audience that isn't enough to sustain profits over time.

If this game is to succeed longterm, it needs to cater more to the players who never freeskate and only want to progress through challenges. Honestly what I think it needs is at LEAST 3-4 extremely difficult ZexyZek-style gap challenges for players to do each week. ZexyZek's youtube views and the majority of the viral Skate clips being huge gaps shows that's what the majority of the audience wants.

If I was the devs, I'd put ZexyZek IN the game for a season and have him come up with weekly insane gap challenges like he does in his youtube videos that typically get 1-7 million views. The player experience for those challenges should feel like watching a mini ZexyZek episode, with an intro clip of him explaining, trying and eventually succeeding the challenge. When players load in, there should already be at least 30-50 other players trying the same challenge so people feel like they're part of a real community event. I'm talking the kind of challenges that take about 30-60 minutes of trial and error.

That kind of gameplay is where the big views/player counts are. If this game is going to succeed longterm and not just get shut down after 2 years by EA because there's only a couple thousand people playing each day, then that's bad for us realistic players who wouldn't even play those insane gap challenges.

this is the sort of ideas they can on should be utilising on with it being a live service game, the social aspect of the game so far is completely dead for it being an always online always multiplayer game. it was supposed to be a community focused game for players and content creators to engage with and grow the game we dont even have in game teams/clans which was something that was big ingame and outside of the game. the extent of the multiplayer is repeating the same slop challenges in max 4 player lobbies or freeskating with barely interactable players

And don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the game as it is right now. As a realistic skater I'm constantly having fun multiplayer interactions with other players sessioning a rail or whatever. But I'm painfully aware that as a f2p live-service game, if this game doesn't make enough money on an ongoing basis it WILL be shut down before its time and then none of us will be able to play it. The simple fact is, us realistic skaters who are having a great time doing kickflip back tails on ledges are just not enough of an audience for EA to consider this game a success worth maintaining.

I think a lot of the more committed realistic players hear an idea like "Put ZexyZek insane gap challenges in the game" and get scared because they think it means shifting the game away from the realistic physics they enjoy and toward something completely unrealistic. But these gameplay styles can coexist.

Anyone who's spent even 15 minutes playing the game or watching skate content on youtube knows that the majority of players are drawn to the big gap challenge style of play. Look at the crowds who gather at the church gap, look at the viral 5 million view Steezus Christ clips with 'Even Flow', the ZexyZek challenges, 99% of all the other high viewcount videos... there is simply no good argument against catering directly to that massive audience who would be playing hours a day to do those challenges in the game in a structured way.

The game's "problem" is its strength, which is to say, there's a bunch of different ways to play it. I look at videos and I see gigantic gaps. That's fascinating but I wouldn't know where to start doing them or even like doing them. I see people doing the one-hand flip glitch thing and just flipping all over the entire map. More power to you, but it's not the way I play the game. Some people want SKATE. Some people want Hall of Meat. I'm fine just free-skating and just want company. No one plays it the same. As for someone into freeskating, I just want more map but as far as I'm concerned, it's normal I'm the most happy out of all styles of players.

there has been a confirmed 10 year development for the game (if that means the 5/6 years pre release included who knows) so there is time for changes and additions to be made. I've seen streamers and other creators create their own huge multiplayer lobbies and have huge sessions which i feel like was the intentions behind these big lobbies but the implementation for that right now is poor, the only way to do this is join a creators party kick everyone when it gets to 4 players and repeat which is obviously annoying to set up.

I play trickline in this game which is the most unrealistic way to play, utilising bugs glitches and the rest to push the boundries of the mechanics in the game. There is a decent playerbase for this kind of style along with other players who enjoy the less realistic side of hitting huge gaps wallriding skyscrapers etc but its almost like they are ignoring that entire side of the playerbase, they add these random ramps in the sky to attempt to cater to these players but its just a flop. Skate 3 was so popular because of all these unrealistic playstyles and im not sure the devs even understand that

History is full of examples of online games that got shut down despite having a dedicated playerbase of a few thousand people who didn't think anything needed to change. People don't group up in-game. It's not in them to do so. Blame generational issues or not for people being socially anxious, it is what it is. I'd much rather just put down a big "Hangout" banner like throwdowns when I get at a spot I plan on hanging in. The banner acts as a spawn/teleport point and people interact with it to auto-join this hangout party, instant join into party chat (opt out if they absolutely wish). The banner means "I'll be here for a while and looking for chill company" (you could even put a tag on the session to announce what type of mood/session it is). It shows up on the map so you can easily find mates to hang out with and not just anonymous dots randomly erring the map.

Peds would be much more interesting if they just did more. For example, hanging out in parks like Rolling Waves Park—having some NPCs sitting there watching us, or using hype animations like shouting, praising, or taking pictures. Adding some static animations too, like a group of NPCs teaching another NPC how to do an ollie, would help. Even if these animations repeat, they would add a lot more to the atmosphere.

Then make it from one side of the map to the other without being hit 😂 you'll have indicators for when they are close to you like fortnite does or something. You have to swerve or hit a button in time to do a massive flip trick that leads into a scene of destruction behind you then you keep pushing. Make it 3 levels so the day 1 ppl can have a real challenge. 😂

Games built alongside the community (at least from my own experiences) tend to be less favorable for me in the long term. R6S and SoT leaned heavily on what the community wanted and both games ended up becoming toxic cesspools because of it… with changing features that consistently changed the “meta” of the games and making them less enjoyable for casual gamers. It was the creator and streamer community they catered to in the end. Not exactly the right clientele

The only game I can think of that was built alongside the community and turned out well is Grounded. Makes sense though as it’s a SP/co-op game and not PvP focused

Glad to hear you’re listening and have had internal discussions on maybe changing your approach. I get that people on the internet are unreasonable but my take is that’s the vocal minority. I think the way BF6 has gone about it has been pretty good and clear. Communication more like what’s being done on the Battlefield series I think would go a long way!

Speaking of communication, that bug where it was charging SVB for regular items, it happened to me. There’s a megathread on the forums with a ton of posts of people who’ve had the same issue. A good start on communication would be some devs even just acknowledging people who post there and giving small status updates.

I lost around 400 SVB, the currency people pay money for, and there’s been no communication. It’s the small stuff like that, that needs to be improved
