The game is not without its flaws and it needs more content (game modes, places to skate etc) but it is still early access and improvements will be made over time.. the pinned comments have a roadmap.. in a lot of ways you will eventually need to be able to find your own fun as things will grow a bit tiresome after a while.. season 2 starts soon so that will rejuvenate some things

but again, thats not how it will be down the line, obv they wont stop developing the game tomorrow. there is going to be much more than what we have rn. and tbh the f2p live service is not as bad as some of us thinks. its more accessible, make the devs more money, more money means more development. you just can't look at a game at season one and be upset about it being underwhelming.

The idea we need to “fund” a good game by paying the $25 for a shoe costume is made up. The reason microtransactions and battle passes are in the early access is because they are being tested. They’re seeing the maximum amount they can charge, and as long as people keep buying, they’re justified in raising the prices. If people don’t buy in, they have to rethink their monetisation.

HOPEFULLY, once the shop is in a place that works for both EA and the players, the people who bought in early will be compensated.

Give it some more time to bake in this phase. I hear you on the lacking delivery. I give a break on adding more comp modes, the single one we have can be bugged to win with a hand plant (I got like 15k points once for a single one). Adding in the extra bits like brands is icing on the cake and I'm sure brands will keep coming in. Everything all in one dump during this phase wouldn't track because it's, like you said, missing those features to get the competitive core audience playing consistently.

But about that Skate statement I wouldn't say if they did the same formula as the trilogy with a story and all that it would die in 2 years. Skate 3 has been alive forever. But who could really say. One thing I do appreciate about the new Skate is they did improve on the gameplay mechanics but I kinda hate everything else( art style, lack of modes, item shop, battle pass, etc)

i think the story mode should have you loop through challenges then Vee's voice starts glitching out then you realize you are wearing a VR headset and that version of San Van is a VR utopia and then you lift your goggles and the graphics turn back into the old style

Truthfully, I don't care that this game is a F2P live service game
And I wouldn't care if it was a full priced title

Truthfully, what matters is that it's a skateboarding simulator first, a game where I can hop on, do some challenges or content, ride around, etc.
And skate. offers the same thing to me whether or not it would be a free experience or a paid experience

Because after the story mode of Skate, all I ever did was ride around and do some challenges

And this Skate is the exact same thing for me, except it's constantly getting new updates and new content to go along with it

skate. feels like what the Skate trilogy felt like after completing the story mode :P
Do I wish we had a story mode? Sure, but it's not a dealbreaker for me, especially as it's a free title that I can easily hop into and share with my friends

And in any case, I wouldn't ever consider myself "invested" in the story mode of any of the games
Their story modes were really just the game's system to progress you through it's content offerings
