I feel as if this depends on your personal definition of a good driver
For example, if I end up in a dangerous situation and perfectly avoid it, am I still a good driver if I also put myself into that situation?

To me, personally, a good driver should follow laws of the road (barring the occasional 5 mph over) and do anything they can to keep as many people as possible safe. With that in mind, I believe that being good at handling situations you end up causing yourself kind of cancels itself out, as the situations could have been avoided entirely in the first place.
