I think it’s more about the qualities of the outfits rather than their age. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have ended up tied in votes at some points.
The Yule Ball outfits have their own advantages since they’re inspired by the films, are wearable for cosplay, and also provide the European wizard style that many players have been wanting. Notes to that many of them are already potterheads/HP film fans beforehand.
Qipao are known for their many variants and stunning emotes. Plus, there have been only few Chinese-themed outfits aside from the CNY event, which usually sold as a five-pack bundle without additional emotes. Because of that, many people were campaigning for this one as well.
Unlike Gothic and Ghost Case, even though both releases were only a month apart, Gothic is especially notable for being the first wheel outfit in Season 1 (after Red Dragon).
Although I personally cheer for Qi pao, having Yule ball winning is fine by me as well. Not to mention lot of global players have been missing out this outfit too due to it being the first wheel after global launch.

Personally for me, I don't want yule, not necessarily coz its bad, its not. But I have so many ballgown dresses which I find better and I 100% wear more (wedding, glacius)
Qipao on the other hand having a more sleek fitted style attracts me more, and having more variants, especially the short one that looks soooo gooood, I really want🥹
