That one slaps! 🤘 🔥
Journey to Rome Part II - Rome Total War Original Soundtrack - Jeff van Dyck
Medieval 2 - We are all one
That Daniel faction battle theme that is used ONLY for him for some reason...
Grimgor's trailer theme is also a banger
rome 1 divinitus, atilla main menu, rome battles. the rest is way too athmosphereic and not enough ''out there''.
But ahem.
Euro Mobilize 1
Attila's main theme.
also medieval 2 mare nostrum
SERVANTS OF THE FLAME
"Duty Calls" from Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai
I love the music from Three Kingdoms Opening
For the Lady - TW Warhammer 1
Rome 1 battle start music
Dream of Albion is good.
Medieval 2 Kingdoms Teutonic Music - Hymn of War
Ogre kingdoms trailer slapped
I wish the warhammer series got an official soundtrack released
"Duty Calls" - Fall of the Samurai
my man
wood elf theme
Vampire Coast DLC trailer music, gotta love a good pirate soundtrack
Medieval 2 - "Duke of Death"
"Dreadfleet" Vampire Coast combat music for Warhammer 2 (and 3).
It was so good we used it as the combat music for a pirate themed TTRPG game.
Mannfred von Carstein Track from the Trailer. Any chance to get this into the actual game btw?
there's a particular music track that plays in Total War Warhammer on the map, since the first game. It has a very somber flute (?) interlude that is very poignant IMO
The main Skaven theme, Vermintide, yes-yes!
Warhammer 2 - Murderous Prowess (Dark elf theme)
yes-yes!
skaven strategy map music
Daniels battle music slaps
definitely the vampire coast trailer song
Medieval 2 - Duke of Death
Agree!
attila main menu music
=> hans zimmer and all which are like him ^^
- anything from jeff van dyck
(rome 1 - medieval 2 - shogun 2 mainly) - epic musics (all styles), mostly epic/dramatic/powerful orchestrals
=> in WH3: LOVE KISLEV MUSICS !
and the one played from dark elves and chaos factions (missing more vampire coast musics)
that one high elf battle theme also goes really hard
It's quite popular I see!
Medieval 2: War Of Kings and Crack Your Head With A Tabla
Mountains of hope is pretty underrated.
atillas main theme , one of the battle osts from attila as well , wh3s first trailer , shoguns ost
and some of the new battle osts that play when u do nuln or malakai
Hail the Mighty, still play it every now and then 😄
Rome 1 Main Menu track
For those who don't know, Mountains of hope is the main theme for the teutonic DLC for Med2, and is suitably grim.
uh Dark Elf battle theme is also good love the chanting
Kislev pre-battle music. Current Vampire counts pre-battle music. But Twilight of the Gods is my all time favorite. Tomb KIngs need better music.
Med 2 - Destiny also slaps
Goddammit, I can't link the music tracks directly
Join the Ogre Kingdoms song
Duke of Death easily
Gotta open the game, play something and make a choice 😄
The ogre trailer music
The vampire coast sea shanty
Ah well. I am gonna do it game by game, without neglecting the OGs.
Shogun: Total War: Mobilize 1 and Campaign Map Autumn. While the track names are plain, the tracks certainly aren't. YOHOHO-YOHO is iconic, and Campaign Map Autumn has amazing Japanese ambience.
anything in shogun 2 and attila
Attila my beloved.
Ogre trailer music, Vampire coast sea shanty and Thrones of decay for me. Thrones of Decay in particular, the gutural dwarven chant is stonks
Great choices!
oh yeah, the TW3k mandate of heaven trailer music is also a banger
Assault by Sea / Attila !
What about the med2 DLC themes?
Toss up between Rome 1 and Medieval 2
I wanna hear a full version of "Death is like the winter chill"
the tomb king's menu theme (Immortal Empires), A Storm of Magic, The Sundering, and Murderous Prowess
total war rome 1 barbarian victory is a mood right there
Hun's battle theme from Attila
Oh, Ebb and Flow from Fall of the Samurai is also good, can't go wrong with traditonal music slowly being overtaken by foreign music.
rome 1, the greek intro
Vampire Skirmish theme those vocals are crazy
ye FOTS nailed it
Traditional flutes mixed in with modern drums.
Mongol Invasion - Mongol Mobilize 2 and Mongol Battle 1. The Total War series' first contact with throat singing. Mongol Mobilize 2 is a real highlight in my opinion, with this menacing chant that almost sounds like rapping. In general, the Mongol tracks convey a real sense of menace, perfect for playing a faction that the game designates as the bad guys from the very intro.
the forgotten is also really nice, caught me off guard first time I heard it
rome 1 divinitus
total war rome 1 mobilize track makes you want to go outside and march for no reason
Warhammer 2 high elf combat tracks are amazing too
Dream of Albion, Duty Calls, Ebb and Flow, Mountains of Hope, the main theme for Med2 and the Americas DLC, the main theme for Attila, and you know what? Empire's main theme.
Empire's main theme doesn't get love.
Tsunami Shogun2
taiko shuffle in shogun 2 is probably the best battle track in that game
It's a period marked by the slow introduction of modern combat, at the end of it all, despite a period of many new ideas and technological revolution, entirely new methods of how humanity should make their voices heard, it's also a period marked by a century of some of the most horrifying combat the people who lived through that period would have ever seen until 114 years later.
Norscan monke noises... oh wait huehue
Medieval: Total War: I think that it can be argued the first two TW games went quite heavy on darker, more ambient music and Medieval absolutely sold itself as a game set in a gritty, dark world. I haven't played the game as much, but I do think the soundtrack is fantastic. Arab Battle 1, Arab Battle 2 and Arab Battle 3 are my personal favorites. Are they very orientalist tracks that don't sound at all like actual Arab music? Absolutely, but they're also goddamn bangers that get you hyped as hell.
In that context the main theme for Empire is absolutely perfect, almost haunting in a way.
Rome 1 Soldier March my beloved
IMPE
IMPERATOR
Viking Invasion: I have to confess that I haven't actually played the expansion itself. Its soundtrack also isn't exactly huge compared to the previous entries. Viking Mobilize is excellent, however. Unusually long, haunting and energetic, with both battle drums and ominous chanting.
Just about all the trailer music in TWW1-3, comeon CA- add them to the game already 😉
Dark Elf battle music: Wrath of Khaine
I think that this is a perfect encapsulation of a race's battle prowess in music form. Always get pumped whenever it plays.
Return to menu screens with faceless soldiers marching off to battle while forboding music plays.
Oh and Taiko Shuffle from Shogun 2 because of course
The music is used in the "Enter The World of Kislev" trailer.
ROME II - Praetorian
ROME II - Caesar's Legion
Rome I - Journey to Rome Pt 2
Rome I - Soldier's Chant
MEDIEVAL II - Hungry Sword
WARHAMMER - Hammer Time
WARHAMMER - Daemon Slayer
WARHAMMER - Faith, Steel, & Gunpowder
Almost every single Total War trailer track to go along with it; here's hoping that one day they will be released like some of the WH2 trailer tracks!
The Skaven ominous throat singing is fantastic.
But it's hard to beat All Hail the Mighty and the Orge trailer song.<3
The Horned Rat or From the Depths, two Skaven tracks
Rome: Total War: My beloved, my first, my favorite game in the series. The soundtrack got nominated for a BAFTA award, and absolutely deserved it. Also the first game in the series with proper names for its tracks! Journey To Rome Part II is incredible, with its rising beat backed up by the vocals chanting "IMPE-IMPE-IMPERATOR!"
Greek Intro, the best track for the best intro in the game. Wistful and intricate. "The Greeks could have ruled the world... Alexander did..."
Forever, the ending track, starting the tradition of TW credit songs (in the Jeff van Dyck games) making you feel bad for winning.
Ah yes the Roman Intro and Greek Intro tracks are sublime
Not to mention Arabic Victory (i think it's called)
The Vampire Coast trailer song (Tattered Sails Shanty), as well as the Chaos Dwarf DLC trailer music (specifically, the part of the track starting from the narrator saying "to seize the world with the fire, is to see it burn first!", and ending at the Kdaai Destroyer roaring).
I remember the dark elves trailer for the second part of Warhammer, there was amazing music at the end of the trailer, at about 2:33. The cello part is great.
THIS
well i liked the attila or rome 2
Duty calls rullez
Campaign music for Napoleon
Specifically the church choir part
Really underrated
clears throat
"death is like a winters kiss"
The music in the original Pharaoh trailer is definitely one of mine. Really wish it had made it into the final game, as it's so much more inspiring than the music used for the final version of that cinematic that Pharaoh uses when you start it up.
Medieval II: One of the more sprawling soundtracks from these games, which I suppose is fitting given that we're talking about four geographic regions that need to be represented, plus the expansions. Less grim, more lavish than the original Medieval in terms of tone, though there are still some similarities. The standouts to me are the following:
Lakota Lambada. The Lizardmen track we deserved but never got. Sweeping, exotic, with the rising whistles and chanting. I remember instantly recognizing it when Youtubers used it in WH2's hype period prelaunch.
Dream of Albion from the Britannia expansion. Longing, sad, with the drumbeats near the start and middle giving you the impression that this is about the prelude to a war.
Tally-Ho from the same expansion, short but deserves it for the awesome bagpipe backing.
Mountains of Hope. The menu theme for the Teutonic expansion. I love the relentlessly grim, forbidding vibe, like you are in this dark frontier at the edge of the civilized world. Which I suppose is very fitting for the tone of the campaign's header faction.
Hymn of War. If Lakota Lambada is the Lizardmen track we deserved, then Hymn of War is the Empire music I forever regret not having in the Warhammer games. It's on the darker, more threatening side, with lots of drums and this tight, regimented, regular beat with a rising swell towards the middle. But it's what I have in my head when I imagine an Imperial army going to battle. State Troops under a heavy drum beat beneath their standards, proud, defiant, but there is this grit or darker undertone to it because the Empire doesn't quite do storybook heroism like Bretonni- ... wait, this isn't Warhammer.
Such a tune!
TOB To Valhalla and the main theme
There's some stuff from Medieval 1/Rome 1/Medieval 2 I still find myself whistling even today, but don't recall what it's called. Think it was used as marching music in battles.
Rome 1 : Romantic Battle
Medieval 2 : Crusaders
Empire : Menu Theme
Shogun 2 : Ona Hei
Shogun 2 FotS : Falling Thunder
Rome 2 : The Faces of Rome trailer music
Attila : Menu Theme and most Hunnic battle musics tbf
Three Kingdoms : Eight Princes trailer theme
Pharaoh : I prepared to ensnare them like birds
WH : Most battle themes are good.
Exactly! Really fires me up to play Pharaoh and fits the cinematic so much more.
(And I'm ashamed I have no campaign map music in there but that's normal I think, because they are meant to accompany you rather than directly strike at you)
What are your favourite music tracks in Total War games?
Empire: Total War: I'll be real, I barely played this game and I remember absolutely none of the tracks from it. It's probably one of the games that I feel was a missed opportunity? Set in the age of classical music and grand orchestras, it had a lot of potential material to mine for inspiration but sadly didn't go for it.
Napoleon is the better game and that also applies in terms of music. The main menu theme is one of the best out of any Total War game, this sweeping score that conveys the grandeur, ambition and tragedy of the Man of Destiny. Better than that film from last year for sure and in a tiny fraction of the time
Empire Total War had some epic tunes
Nurgle's music is so dreary and unsettling. I love it.
But nothing beats the song from Join the Ogre Kingdoms. I still find myself singing lines from it.
The menu theme for Napoleon is also really good
Oh and the Teutonic campaign
Classic
Then there's Ebb and Flow from FoTS
Love the mix of western snare drums and Japanese instruments
Fall of the samurai has nearly every track be a compleate banger. Both for campagin and battles. Some are less so. But holy i'd vote FOTS soundrack #1 any time.
Also liked a few soundracks from Wh3 mainly kislev's "The Heart of Winter" battle ost. And "The Art of War" from cathay.
True Ebb and Flow was also pretty epic
Shogun II. Jeff van Dyck's last soundtrack for Total War, and up there with the rest. He brought an energy that nobody else quite has to this series. I miss him so much...
For the Daimyo is a masterclass in buildup. It's ironic that another track is titled Tsunami, because this is a real tsunami. Starts off with strings, then backs them up with drums and keeps getting higher and higher until it crests and crashes. One of the best mobilization/tension tracks in the series.
Ona Hei is another banger, and I feel like the two are almost perfect companion pieces. The taiko drums and vocals are absolutely incredible.
Bird of Time is the last credits song of its type, and as far as I am concerned the best one. Just listen to it.
Total war 3 kingdoms had some great traditional instrumental tracks, grom the paunches theme, alarielles speech with the singing and choir as she walks through the meadows, Rome HQ and Forever by Angela and Jeff V. Dyck
Total War: Warhammer II - Vermintide
Journey to Rome Part 2 (Rome Total War), Death Cures a Fool (Fall of the Samurai), Resolve (Shogun 2), March of Alexander (Total War Arena), To Wage a War (Total War Troy), Main Menu theme (Total War Attila), Mandate of Heaven theme (Total War Three Kingdoms). Just to name a few that I think get overlooked but are absolutely amazing.
Oh, Matsuri from fall of the samurai, the victory theme.
Rise of the Samurai: Wait, it had unique music? Well, I am making the list and I love the intro theme. While people have forgotten that expansion, I still think it had one of the best intros in the entire series. WHILE THE SENGOKU JIDAI WAS A TIME OF WAR, THOSE WHO THINK JAPAN HAS NEVER SEEN THE LIKE, HAVE SHORT MEMORIES
Fall of the Samurai remains one of the best expansions in the series, and it even came with its own full soundtrack. I really like the intrusion of western instrumentation, and the music in general has a more careful, wistful tone than that of the main game, which is appropriate for the end of an age. Personal favorite track is Uncle Samurai, for expressing the themes of the expansion very well with the mix of Japanese and Western sounds.
Rome II: It's a shame to say because I really do enjoy the game, but I think it has one of the less interesting OSTs in the series. It doesn't help that unlike many other games, it seems to have forgone culturally-distinct themes for music that is applied to everyone in the game. While the original Rome mostly did that too, its soundtrack was much more energetic.
That said, I love the game's main menu theme. It perfectly evokes this old-fashioned swords-and-sandals movie grandeur, starting with a slow duduk and building up to orchestral trumpets.
Journey to Rome, Part II. Salyak's Embrace, Inferno and a bunch of others. I'm glad there were more liberties taken with the soundtrack for the third Warhammer game compared to what came before and unlike the UI change for the worse, I consider the music a change for the better. Hope we'll get more tracks before the game's lifespan comes to an end. Hoping for some vampire-specific music in particular in the future.
Attila main menu
Blood on the Ice, Kislev Pre Battle theme in Warhammer 3. Just has that feeling your marching into hell and need to beat back all the odds to survive.
Also the entirety of Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai, especially the pre battle theme, Duty Calls
Now and Zen feels like youre staring down the enemy
Medieval 2 Total War had best soundtrack - "We are all one" the best-best (but DLC are just allright)
In Warhammer music from W1 and W2 were wooow ( Main menu and races music)
Attila allround good
tattered sails shanty or the ogre kingdoms trailer song
The Rome 1 menu track is hard to beat
Attila's soundtrack is everything its predecessor isn't. Unapologetically thematic, energetic and as grim as the rest of the game.
Nothing exemplifies the game's vibes better than the main menu theme. A scene of the Huns in shadow, riding through a burning plain, backed by absolutely incredible throat singing.
The Red Horse is another favorite. It's the game's Roman battle theme, and exemplifies why I love this period of Roman history. Drums, grandiose trumpets, militaristic chanting, all the stuff you expect out of the Romans in media, but there is this desperate urgency to it. It's the theme for an empire embattled on all sides, ferociously fighting for its life.
by far wh2 The Grace of Isha
I like the indian soundtracks in ETW and "to valhalla" in ToB
Warhammer is sadly another miss in my opinion. It's a shame that it has one of the more forgettable scores in the series, because Attila, the game's immediate predecessor had an excellent OST. The dark fantasy setting ought to have provided for plenty of inspiration, but this seems to have not panned out in practice.
It's not bad per-se, but it lacks energy and variety. A lot of the races share music too, which means that there is very allowance for flavor. You can't make a track that sounds Dwarfen for example if it also has to make sense as a track for the Empire, Bretonnia and Wood Elves. The sequels rectified this, but the races from the original game still suffer.
My favorite track from the game is sadly played all of once, in the Dwarf intro. It was actually reused in the promo videos for Thrones of Decay, and I remember a lot of people asking where it was from because it sounded great and they'd never heard it before. Which is another problem with these games! They can and do have some great music, but a lot of it you will hear all of once, in a trailer or intro and never in-game. Put your good tracks in the game, please! We'd love to hear more of them!
M2TW credits music, RTW credits music, M2TW duke of death, Shogun 2 Good Death, M2TW crack your head on a tabla, basically everything by Jeff Van Dyk
"What if I told you they had a shanty?"
PLEASE for the love of god add the trailer's extended Maw song to spotify so i can damn well hear it on the go
The victory music from Shogun II. It's just so good and bouncy. :3
Warhammer II is an improvement on its predecessor. It actually lets each race have its own music. It's not as distinct or interesting as other games in the series, but it was a big step up. Again though, some of the same issues from the original Warhammer abound. Lots of good music in the trailers that never makes it to the game, a lot of low energy tracks that sound very similar, and a general vibe that the music doesn't want to be noticed too much?
Tattered Sails is the best one of course, though I also have a soft spot for the Warden and the Paunch trailer's music.
"MY LORD! A GLOURIOUS VICTORY WILL SOON BE YOURRSS!!!"
warhammer 1 mannfred von carstein trailer music
Mayhem from Rome Total War
wait no im tripping throne of decay, the dwarf choir got me
Thrones of Britannia is a sadly underrated game that I ought to play more of. Unlike the Warhammer series, it seems like the music actually wants to be taken notice of this time around rather than lull the player into sleep. Highlights for me include the adventurous, heroic main menu theme, Glory & Honor with its Ramin Djawadi-esque riffs (listen to it and tell me it wasn't trying to evoke his work on Game of Thrones, it reminds me a lot of the Baratheon music from the show), Show No Mierce with its menacing buildup and moody, Witcher-esque White Shores and the bagpipes for To Valhalla.
Horribly underrated soundtrack, I wish it got the love it deserves.
It's gotta be a toss-up between Death Lullaby and Lakota Lambada from M2TW. Though, I think Death Lullaby narrowly wins.
Three Kingdoms is the masterpiece of the series. CA was really firing on all cylinders for that one, and I legitimately have trouble picking which track is my favorite. All of the music is so evocative and dripping with cultural flavor. The trailer songs are almost all based off actual historical poems that are in some way related to the subject! Sometimes they're even written by the people in question! It's so cool I have no words.
Again, it's very hard to pick which ones I like most, but I think I will tentatively say the music from Dong Zhuo's trailer. Excellent trailer with fantastic music. It's literally about Dong Zhuo and the entire thing oozes evil. You listen to it and instantly get in the mood to brutally crush your enemies.
The music from the Accolades trailer is also incredible. Again. How many TW games have music based on poems written by the people you play in them?
Mandate of Heaven is possibly the best trailer for any of these games. Starting slow and mournful, oppressive, then building up to be ecstatic and triumphant as the trailer shows you the Yellow Turbans and the forces rising to oppose them, as Zhang Jue grasps for the sun... It's just so good all around.
I love the Ogre backing tracks, so much
Oh, shoot, I forgot about War of Kings from M2TW. That one is a true classic.
Riders of the East and fiddlers of the plains.
Troy is odd and unconventional. I really like the mix of more ambient instrumentation with electronic and metal music. I think it manages to convey this vibe of an age both far distant from now yet simultaneously timeless. Did you know that one of the people doing the music was Jaimie Christopherson? The same guy who did MGR? I bet not. Give me It Has To Be This Way blasting while Achilles hunts down Hector
Highlights for me include the Mass Effect-esque first turn ambient theme, the intense Agamemnon, and actually, does anyone remember this? It was the music that played in these videos they were doing when they were introducing characters. It sounded really Greek. It was fantastic.
Warhammer III easily has the best music out of any Warhammer game. Finally, they let the composers breathe and make more interesting stuff. I think that for me, the highlights have to be the Kislev tracks. While I have many problems with how Kislev has panned out as a faction, the music doesn't disappoint. You have the requisite ominous choirs, but also more somber steppe riffs and some wails. It manages to convey Kislev's mixed heritage very well.
Lot of bangers stand out to me. M2TW's menu music still gives me chills, the battle loss screen from Shogun 2, 'High Loremaster' from the HE in TWWH2, to name a few.
Far away my favourite has to be 'Death Lullaby' from M2. First time that track came on for me, I was storming a Byzantine fortress with my weary but elite Scottish army, and I was wearing a huge dumb grin for the entire thing. Track is hype af.
Uncle Samurai from Shogun 2.
I absolutely love the tempo sounding like a running train.
RTW, TWR2, M2TW, TWPD
Forgot to mention the other two but both the Victory Themes for Shogun 2 and FOTS are amazing, really helps after a extremely hectic battle.

the 2nd music in the main menu of Rome 1 Total war, it's the best masterpiece you have done with Jeff van Dyck ❤️
Victory theme Shogun 2
atillas main theme
the native american theme for battles in medieval 2 kingdom dlc
vampire coast! ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY! HE'S A RISIN' FROM THE DEEP!
Mors Gardens best campaign theme, and Rats of Unusual Size is the best Battle theme.
Also if we include trailer music, then pretty much every trailer music since Hunter and the Beast.
Rising Fire from 3K is a must have whenever i’m playing cathay
CRUNCHIN' AN' FIGHTIN' WE KILL FOR THE MAW
Opening Music for Attila Total War
Rome 1 trailer, march to rome part 2, imperial conflict, forever, the enemy is near, melee cafe.... just put the whole rome 1 soundtrack here
Duke of Death from Medieval 2
A Majority of the Three Kingdoms trailer music.
Matsuri (FOTS victory music)
In Medieval 2's Britannia expansion, the menu theme and all the songs that play on the campaign map
In Warhammer 3, the trailer theme for Immortal Empire's official release
has to be the vampire counts tattered sails shanty
Empire Total War main menu still chills me in the best way possible.
Napoleon's campaign tracks are also quite nice in portraying the bleak contrasts of the period.
the menu music from SHOGUN 1. I used to go to sleep listenign to the slow japanese music with birds in the bg
oops, then google "shogun total war 1 menu music"
ur bot sucks
there was this clip of ravens calling over the music, in shogun 1
p dope
go play shogun 1, it was worth playing, anyway.
bridge fights are miserable murder slogs though lol
oh no the bot hates french
shogun 2 lost a lot of the actual je ne sais quoi of the first total war. It a bunch of nerds makign math out of they imagination, based vaguely off of what a white nerd read and interpreted from sun tzu
it was busted and silly but also a vibe, and they still keep the vibe. which I respect because it's frickin tough to keep to a lane while making a product repeatedly over years
play me the ravens crying from shogun 1, if you can find it lol
and u win the internet
I don't really focus on music playing these games, but the best from the ones I can recall are: Warhammer I main menu theme (Faith, Steel and Gunpowder), Warhammer III warriors of chaos battle theme and the pirate shanty from the vampire coast.
I love all of the ambient campaign music in Warhammer 3, especially the Kislev and Cathay music, it's very thematic
No voice in our heads but the Maw🎶
We relish the sound of its call 🎶
definitely the high elves background choir (Warhammer 2 & 3)
The mix of bronze age instrumentation with what sounds like electric guitars in Pharoah. Super cool
Quite literally anything from the RTW soundtrack
Moon Festival from Three Kingdoms, one of the positive campaign ambient tracks 🥮
Quite honestly, I love the entire soundtracks to the original Shogun and Medieval games, plus Rome II. I'm also quickly falling in love with Pharaoh: Dynasty's music -- it's genuinely amazing.
Obscure but awesome: Lakota Lambada from Medieval II
