Gleam is not Rust

Probably not totally relevant in this Discord, but I've noticed a lot of confusion in my community around whether you should use Gleam or Rust. Of course, the two aren't really comparable, but I felt the need to address the issue anyway 😅

I think it's one of those things people compare not because they're similar but because they're in similar circumstances, e.g. new (or new-ish, I guess Rust is not that brand new anymore :P) language with fresh ideas and rapidly rising in popularity among different groups (going mainstream or at least looking like they might). And since people have limited time and/or mental energy to learn they're trying to decide which rabbit hole to explore.

If you have something specific you have to do then that makes it easier to decide but some hobbyists (like me) are just window shopping for shiny new tools and will decide what to do with them later (if anything) :P

Then I'd hope this video is still useful to help you decide! It's why I go over the pros and cons of each instead of just saying "they're not the same"

Yeah, I think it is. Made me realize that the kind of simplicity Gleam has is the same kind that attracted me to Uiua so much when all other array languages felt much less approachable

Simple syntax and a cute logo, that's the way to go

Also, I think the logo of the two languages kind of describe them: while Lucy is a simpler drawing (because Gleam is simple), Rust's icon is more complex (because Rust is more complex)
