It doesn't look like the call is actually open yet but the site is up and I assume it'll open soon
@brave cairn in particular surely you have to submit something to this one! ^.^

[Call for Speakers] Code BEAM Lite Stockholm, 13th May 2024
thanks for the vote of confidence. Though I am falling behind gleam cutting edge with the rate of releases 🙂
Call for talks is now open
Yesssssss
Someone give me a talk title they'd be interested in. I'll see if I can fill in the gaps. (p.s. perhaps loosely related to what I've posted about but not doesn't have to be)
could you do something about your datalog implementation?
i would genuinely love to hear about that
Call for speakers end's this week. The more Gleam the merrier (in my opinion)
I'm hopefully going to submit something. Has anyone submitted already?
Ive submitted two!
Good times. I think you'd already posted that (although if not here then where). I guess I'm asking anyone else?
Lustre goodness?
Im trying to convince @whole oracle to show their music player PWA
@remote basalt you could consider submitting your fosdem talk for this?
was just looking at the site again! think I will. Take it to the next level, even.
yeah. can currently re-gen and migrate state, with 100% generated in-memory core erlang.
quite different from genserver code_change.
from the type-safety of gleam, at that.
Im really excited for your talk, feels like something lustre server components coud jump on
and you did some great work in cient-server communication, I think. excited about your talk, too!
No way in code beam
why not??
Too many people. Look this is me: https://youtu.be/1XriDeVHO8w (the song not the video)
oh i love the beths
and i love this video
if anything you should take the video as inspiration 😄
Ok the very early bird tickets are out and it's ~350 € sooo I'm not coming
if it so happens that a lot of Gleamlins are going then I might take it as a trip and come hang out otherwise though
noooo 😭
I've been accepted for Stockholm. Strike 1 for Gleam, also my first talk since 2018 so I'm keen to make it a good one for my return
heh funnily enough i was just now looking to see if i had heard anything from them yet. congratulations!! what is your talk 👀
"BEAM's bright future with Gleam (and JavaScript?)"
i'm only gonna come if you mention lustre
You know I'm only writing it the night before. (or more accurately rewriting) so who knows.
Though I suspect gleam javascript and lustre are an obvious connection
thats what we like to hear
where did you see this?
very early bird tickets are available for people who subscribed to mailing list, but I'm sure @whole oracle can give you the link
ah i see ^.^
my proposal has been declined
one of mine was not acccepted and the other one is still pending, im working on the assumption its a no though
@remote basalt do you think you might go anyway, its kinda expensive
the msg contained a code for the very early bird price until Eo March
but I think No.
i'm waiting till i get paid next and then i guess i'll start booking things. i think its important for me to try and attend these 😔
I’m lucky my employer pays for this one. Looking forward to at least one Gleam talk then! Sorry to hear it’s not looking like more
the event is only one day, i wouldve been surprised if we got more than one 😄
Only one track?
im not sure how many tracks they'll have
The last boats back are 21.45 from Kapellskär (north of Stockholm) or 20.00 from Stockholm. When does the event end?
usually something like 6pm but I'm just guessing
https://fosstodon.org/@lawik/112127922586832714
So the closing notes are at 1740 and there's socializing after that so if someone wants to stay for the full thing then I fear it wouldn't leave much time to meet after the event
@[email protected] draft says closing notes at 17:40 or so and usually there's som socializing after. And then people head to a pub or so.
So any folks planning on attending? ^.^
I’m attending (with like 15 people from work it looks like)
you work at Kivra?
Yurp. Writing Elixir and Erlang.
We are pleased to announce that Code BEAM Lite Sto is implementing a Diversity & Inclusion Programme sponsored by Erlang Solutions. The goal of the programme is to increase the diversity of attendees and offer support to those in the tech community who would not otherwise be able to attend the conference.
The Diversity Scheme is primarily aime...
BTW (meta question), for conferences should we have two threads, one for "[Call for Speakers]" and another for the event, or... should the thread name change when the cfp/cfs closes? 🤔
Are there many Gleamlings coming to Stockholm?
I'm not, the time window was too small and money is too tight
Oh there’s an afterparty at the venue, interesting. I guess the traditional beers and banter after will be a bit later than usual.
Looking forward to a fun day only half at work!
That loopy self fixing LLM is a cool idea. But I don’t know When I would trust something like that for a real thing.
i wonder if types could make it more reliable
Yeah probably, any tooling that helps human developer do the right thing will help robot developers as well. But you will need awesome test coverage, and the LLM bit being able to change your tests. Or at least only let it add regression tests. And then maybe it has to request a human to make other test changes.
And it has infinite patience and is happy to do anything at any time so I would be afraid it quickly reaches a point where it just gives human developers an endless backlog of things to review.
But I’d love to let one loose in a little cluster somewhere to see what it invents!
i like the idea but not like, as the key part of a system
Sentry and the like cannot be far away from this. It’s the next step after like Dependabot. But I would expect it to not work in the repo and with PRs
i like the idea of having some local llm thing where i can ask it to do a task and it generates the code to do it and self-heals until it actually gets it right. but i'd be so worried about hallucinations i dont know if i'd ever trust it in a product..
The OTP 27 ~ sigil will save megabytes of <<“…”/utf8>> in source files.
json encoder is so genuinely hype
mostly because thoas is quite slow to build compared to gleam and it makes basically every gleam project build slow as a consequence
Gleam mentioned
Heh, just using ex_docs instead of edoc is kind of a sensitive issue, as evidenced by some questions
Gleam time!
Glime!
have fun @brave cairn !
you're scaring me now
nevermind you brought me back
Someone should create an animation that morphs some code from using callback fn to using use.
Just for illustrating
no live streaming, unfortunately...
recorded though i think
Hah love this live commentary
will watch when published!
This is a tag cloud built by participants here.
Crappy pic but the TV was easier to photograph than the projector screen.
@cloud hornet have we said hi. I'm not sure from your pic
Shall we post the link here :-p
No we haven’t. Let’s after this round table.
I sidled up to listen to the post Gleam discussion but didn’t want to interrupt the enthusiastic newbs, and then I saw my colleagues so sat down for more coffee.
It’s not me in the picture. Just some antique photo of a sailor. But I sport a similar beard.
Alright, well I'll let you find me.
@junior willow should enjoy this
Pauserunelsewhere is a perfectlycromulentword
It’s an unfamiliar experience hearing Gleam mentions getting dropped so casually and often at a conference
"cromulent" ?
Sounds fun
Have a great time everyone in attendance!
i had such a good time!
Got some good stickers?
Sorry for the bed photo
Nice!
I’m still jealous of the gleamlins getting to meet up
A gleam sticker!
One day
I wish we had the digital version we could make it a discord emoji
Maybe @rigid ridge would be very kind 🥺
its still a mystery how those stickers already travelled all the way to Stockholm, so glad they did though!
