We have a Spanish channel and there are many active Japanese members here so why not Japanese as well?

No. English all we need. English is the second best language in the world.

It is used all over the world. I could make up/think of a few more.

Hmm.. i see.
indeed we can express more in less syllables using English.

#

btw in Japanese, we can express more using less characters (because when Japanese people read Kanjis, there would be several syllables for each character).

#

why do you think 'used all over the world' is a good point?
and what are the few more ideas?

# shrewd stag why do you think 'used all over the world' is a good point? and what are the few...

Used all the world makes it better for practicality and business (not linguistically better).

Better for typing (no accents or unique characters).

Most scientific research is in English.

It is the most spoken language in the world.

No gender for nouns, adjectives, etc. The exception might be blonde/blond.

You can write a sentence 2 dozen ways and it is still grammatically correct.

The verb conjugation is easier than say Spanish for example. There are 3 main tenses and then modifiers to make it continuous, perfect, and another one but I forgot the name. Technically there are more tenses but I haven’t studied them.

Because there are less syllables per bit of information, English can be spoken slowly (sometimes much slower) than other languages.

There are solutions or alternatives which solves the issues that English has. One is to alter the alphabet and/or spelling of words. Another solution is to switch to a conlang (invented language) like Esperanto or others.

#

Typescript is one solution to make the spelling of English phonetic using a new and easy to write alphabet.

The British want to introduce a change in the spelling of words in the English language. I’m an American, so you can guess what I feel about their government and ideas.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts very clearly and humorously 😊

yeh, 'simple is the best', japanese people also say it often.
I agree that English is relatively simple language.

Even they lost conjugations of nouns and adjectives according to cases, I know Romance languages are still complicated.
well, why's because now i learn French.
Those conjugations are interesting to me, but somehow hard to get used to.

I was surprised that u know Esperanto, is it famous in the U.S.?
well it was a grate challenge, and Esperanto is still the most spoken language in all conlangs, but I thought there should be more solutions when I first knew it.
Then I found that Zamenhof had made more versions after the first one released. (i already knew the Ido language at that time.)
It was a pity that his suggestions weren't accepted by the Esperanto community...

Anyways, in the point that we use diacritics, typing English is more simple than typing Esperanto.

well, I have a suggestion to use tokipona tho? lol

Also, this was my first time to hear that British people are trying to change English spellings.
i know there are considerable irregularity in English including verb conjugations, and the divergence of the pronunciation from the spelling is one of the most big problems, but... I'm sure that it's gonna be much more mess if they tried to change all the basics of English spelling.

#

btw, why is Typescript a solution for spelling English phonetically?
I'm really a beginner to programming, so i don't quite get it...

It's said that English is popular due to its robustness.

#

That is... you can make grammar errors that would be fatal in other languages and still convey the correct message.

@shrewd stag quickscript

I don’t know how popular this stuff is, but I would think that you might find it interesting. I will respond to more of what you wrote (I did read it), however I must go to bed.

oh, thnx (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)
Reading it, i've once heard about Shaw's alphabet.
Quikscript was new to me.
I remember to have read that Benjamin Franklin also tried to reform English spelling.

It is actually nice to have Japanese members (and more members living in Japan, I feel less alone haha)

#

As for English, it has a noticeable flaw, which a very hard pronunciation for most people around the world.

#

I forgot which language has the easiest pronunciations for non-native speakers around the globe, but it is neither a roman language, neither a German one.

The Japanese language is creeping into my life even though I'm not physically in Japan!

I'm from France. I happened to do my Ph.D. in Japan, and I haven't left yet ...

shrewd stag
#

wonderful!
btw i'm going to France this summer.
I'm interested in Romance languages as I said above, and i chose French for my first language to learn them.

It is not the easiest one ^^'
I hope you will enjoy your trip.

#

I might be in Paris in June for a couple of weeks

As for spelling, it is more regular than English I think.
(Not to mention the Japanese language. lol)
Pronunciation? Je vais m'entraîner hehe

we could add roles that specify the languages someone speaks, sometimes people have problems with exact english and english terms so if they see that the person they're talking to speaks their language it can make conversation easier sometimes

#

if we have spanish we should also have japanese and maybe portuguese and chinese
