i've been an accredited editor since i was 13

i do spell checks, punctuation, grammar, indentation where it's missing, sometimes i reorganize sentences so they make more sense

#

my mom's dyslexic and she has several books out that i edited myself

#

i worked on her first series and even came up with the series title

#

it's only recently i started charging for my services. before i simply asked for food whenever i worked on stuff, but that's not really sustainable in the long run

#

plus i tend to edit as i read, so i work very fast

#

like i can do 11 chapters in like 3 hours if i wanted

#

the only things i really won't do are nsfw and textbooks. the former coz it's uncomfortable and the latter because textbooks are the absolute worst to edit

#

trust me, i've done one of those and it took me weeks

#

all because the author tried to format everything himself and managed to mess up all the fonts, spacing, indentation, everything

#

i still don't know how he did it

#

word of advice, unless you know what you're doing DO NOT TRY TO FORMAT YOUR OWN BOOKS

it's just gonna cause a bigger headache for the actual editors down the line

#

honestly because i pride myself on my ETA it's another reason why my rate is so low

#

i mean, it's not like i'm editing every single word and i don't take very long, so $6 per chapter seems pretty reasonable to me

#

but my bar is very low: no nsfw and no textbooks. anything else is fine to edit. i mean, recently i worked on someone's book where the main character was a cannibal in a psychiatric facility
