I'm conflicted on what I want my main character to be. The story takes place in the Half-Life universe, I'm conflicted if I want the main character, (A Combine Soldier) to be a defector trying to get a message to the rebellion, or a pride and blood hungry soldier that wants to capture a rebel VIP to get noticed by the Combine and become an Elite King Unit.

Have two MCs?

What do you want to do with them? If it's the angry sort of character, do you want them to eventually get calmer or more kind, because if not I don't think many people will read it

I mean angst is great but you need to be good to write it well imo

You don't need to MCs but since you have two good storylines it would make sense if you had two characters- one for each story

My story is now about a Half-Life Combine on a rebel killing spree to prove himself and become an elite.

It depends on where you want your story to go. Mainly, what you want your theme to be. That is, what is the message you're trying to tell with your story? It doesn't have to be some ultra specific, powerful message, it could just be "Hey this world rlly bad" n stuff like that.

Imo, I would take the 2nd option just so that I could turn it into a tragedy where he eventually regrets becoming a part of the Elite king unit thingy (idk much half life) but thas cuz the theme I personally decided for it was tragedy and "wow this world rlly bad"

So yea, decide on the theme you want first. Do you want the theme to be tragic? Then go off from there. You could also take my suggestion and twist it however u want -- it's up 2 you yea
