#VPet 3d Scans

#

I got a 3d scanner and am in the process of scanning parts of digimon and other vpets to help the community have replacement parts

#

Scanning parts take time and doesnt always work out. So when i scan i move around the scanner at an angle, then above, and then try to get as low as i can. After that i remove all the extra stuff scanned and try to align all the scans, this can take 2-6 scans so far. After that i run meshing and export them. I can then use meshmixer to clean up tabs and bits that are rougher.

#

this is how it looks when i scan

thorny dragon
#

ill probably scan a DMOG and d-ark next, ill be getting a slime device this weekend to scan the battery door/clip by request

hoary gust
#

amazing work!
I've been looking for something like this for a while, if you can get clean scans of the whole shells, we'll be able to start custom printing shells on a whole new level.
thanks for your great work, please keep it up!

@thorny dragon has leveled up! (32 ➜ 33)

thorny dragon
#

Going through all my devices, i found i own a vital bracelet V that i never opened

#

and i own a d-scanner that never worked but has a good shell

thorny dragon
#

so about 45 2/5's devices

vague stone
#

You may think you cant be trusted with money, but you're awesome for doing this kind of thing!
The Medarot fan discord I'm in would probably lose their minds if you made scans of either Medarotch

thorny dragon
#

yeah ill probably get some scans of parts i can but they are so difficult to even take apart

#

but i bet i can get the battery and pin cover

vague stone
#

I hear that, I have the advanced and the hinge on mine is so iffy

thorny dragon
#

i dont use my advanced but the screens are a big pain on my og

vague stone
#

I don't think I've seen very many that don't have dying screens

thorny dragon
#

i wanna scan a medal to see if i can improve my medal generator websites base model

vague stone
#

Your what-
a few years back I painstakingly recreated the medal model, but generating variants for every medal was to much, and at the time I didn't have access to photos of very many

thorny dragon
#

Oh I posted about it awhile ago

#

You can enter any valid metal number and download the stl for it

#

Medal not metal lol

vague stone
#

Well that's a pretty awesome resource. I know you said you'll end up scanning one, but if you want the model I made, let me know

thorny dragon
#

Mine works well, I just wanna make it better or add the designs

vague stone
#

Mine has the two variant border designs and was made to the exact measurements, but not the medal art. Not sure how the measurements of mine play well with different printers though

#

I do have photos for a ton of the medals though, if you need those

thorny dragon
#

You can generate one of mine and compare, see how different yours is

#

My site just fills the holes of the blank model I made so it’s not too hard to swap probably

vague stone
#

I checked them and they're really close to each other. The pin positioning is a little different and different sizes, but for actual use vs needless perfectionism, it's pretty spot on

thorny dragon
#

Yeah I tried to mess with it a bit so it didn’t need to be perfect

#

I had swapped printers when I started making them

#

atm im scanning a dmog back shell

#

i think it might work

#

well scanned and now editing

vague stone
#

I'm glad I spoke up and you mentioned your site, and am looking forward to seeing what else comes of your scanning

thorny dragon
#

its a lot of fun, at least my arm is being worked out. i have to hold this scanner in an awkward way for like 5-10mins per scan

vague stone
#

If you ever get your hands on a US D3, I'd love scans of the battery door and clip. I may have gotten over zealous when restoring and painting my childhood one when the screws decided they didn't want to come out lol

thorny dragon
#

i had one a long time ago, one of the devices i wish i didnt let go

vague stone
#

ouch... I've been there before..

thorny dragon
#

Meshmixer is struggling with this model, before i exported from creality scan it was 1.8m triangles

thorny dragon
#

it had a lot more cleanup, which means i just sat and guessed on what needed to be cut out with basic shapes and smoothing

thorny dragon
vague stone
#

Nice, I'm impressed it actually managed to pick up the text despite how hair thin it actually is

thorny dragon
#

I think most issues I have overall are just printing related and probably can be helped with a bit more cutting in the battery door issues and the nub just is so small it becomes a point

floral crest
#

Zarch
Do you have Kofi or somethin?

thorny dragon
#

I do

#

i only made one cause i dont like to accept money but people kept trying to tip me for things i do for fun

floral crest
#

I wanna tip you for the fun things you do
It means a lot to know members of the community are doing what they can for Digimon
So thank you, Zarch, for being cool as heck gomaSunglasses

#

Now to find more money to tip folks... DeviHAA

thorny dragon
thorny dragon
#

need to scan the screen bracket and prong bracket and i think ill have completed the US dmog (i think its the US version)

#

but i think i need a thin holder to do them so ill make and print that tomorrow

thorny dragon
# thorny dragon

this didnt need any edits to work, but i might fix the tabs a tabs anyway

Debating on if i wanna full scan the PenOG next or continue battery covers

floral crest
#

Make a poll? 🤔
Tho battery doors would be quicker to finish and than later add to full scans, no?

thorny dragon
#

Yeah those are easy

#

Maybe I’ll do more of those and then a poll on a full scan

thorny dragon
#

i just checked my desktops hdd and apparently the scans take up 86gb of space

thorny dragon
#

since no one has confirmed the models that ive edited work i havnt uploaded any to thingyverse or printables, debating on just going ahead

floral crest
#

Any folks you could ask to test them?
I think it might best best to test before adding them on and having to deal with folks asking for adjusted versions of them 😅

thorny dragon
#

I’m sure there are many but idk, it’s a wide enough range that many people won’t have them all

#

I have the files posted in google but just not on a 3d model site

floral crest
#

Maybe a call to arms? Could ask Xanthos and/or other Com makers 🤔

#

@shell cargo @steep grove
I SUMMON THEEE!!!!

shell cargo
#

Bought to drive. Ill come back later. 👍

steep grove
#

good evening, what's going on here

#

oh i haven't printed it, hmmm

#

also don't want to test it right now, been growing a pumpkin and i don't want it to die

#

plus right now my printer is in a bit of an ehh state, need to change the vat and the print wouldn't be accurate as of now, all my prints come out deformed

floral crest
#

Would either of you know of any other folks who would be able to test these out that have 3d printers? I wish I had one cryogre

clear dove
#

Woops i think my message didn't send here! I'll gladly do some test prints when I get home!

clear dove
#

I can test DMOG stuff and DMX JP stuff (if the DMX3 is the same shell as other japanese DMX models)

thorny dragon
#

anything in my drive should work as a print

clear dove
#

i also have a US D-power

#

and a 2020 digivice

#

if you've scanned anything that isn't in the drive that needs testing :O

floral crest
clear dove
#

for me the edited DMOG cover is REALLY CLOSE, but I'm printing it again at 101% because the screw seemed pulled a bit and I didn't want to strip my og's screw holes

#

will report back when I get the 101% sized one printed

thorny dragon
#

The edited version?

clear dove
#

yeah

#

it could be the axis i'm printing along tho

#

this way prints effectively and supportless for me, but i think bc the edges run along that axis it causes some shrinkage maybe

thorny dragon
#

For the DMOG, i printed at like 45 with the holes at the bottom and back side facing down. but most of them have been printed like you showed and that dmog would probably print the same

#

which printer are you using?

clear dove
#

I have a Voron 0

thorny dragon
#

im using my P1S with bambu PLA

clear dove
#

and using some generic PLA

#

I can test on the prusa later too if need be

thorny dragon
#

so it could easly be printer tolerences. since these are 99% sized to real they can probably be pretty close to snug or short.

clear dove
#

I have a prusa mini

#

yeah

thorny dragon
#

i have a k1 i could try as a second test printer but ive been using its build plate for the turn table when scanning lol

#

i need a black metal plate to use instead

#

I think my printer has been ~0.1mm off

thorny dragon
#

aww

clear dove
#

Also yess I actually just acquired this printer yesterday! From someone who built it himself :D

#

It's hella fast

thorny dragon
#

def rough cause of the brim, even when i avoid a brim the support brim still leaves a bad bottom i have to cut off

clear dove
#

Yeah I'm gonna try one sans brim tbh

#

I don't think it needs it

thorny dragon
clear dove
#

The fact its coreXY is why I was interested in adopting it, it's so much faster and less interference from vibrations

thorny dragon
#

right? coreXY has been a game changer in quality

#

oh and yours is even enclosed

clear dove
#

Like my prusa is nice and quiet but

#

This little dude is a beast

#

And I rarely print any bigger anyways!

thorny dragon
#

fair reason to keep small

#

ive gone through many printers and even if i usually print small i sometimes need bigger

clear dove
#

So 101% worked best for me, btw

The 100% size one was just ever so slightly small, it'd probably work if i screwed both sides less tight for some wiggleroom but. This is perfect

thorny dragon
#

my first printer was a knockoff monoprice i3 mini

thorny dragon
#

101% def seems like a printer/filament difference

clear dove
#

my first printer was the one my partner still has, a prusa i3 mk2

and then i got... an m3d micro and wanted to run it over with a truck

thorny dragon
#

but i also did not clean up the holes

#

so they could be slightly more opened

clear dove
#

and then i got my prusa mini which served me well for years until i landed this little guy

#

I think the holes are ok!

#

they don't rub on the screw at all for me

thorny dragon
#

oh good

thorny dragon
clear dove
#

It's very close to perfect

#

also omg haha

I made do with that m3d micro for so long tho

shell cargo
#

@floral crest what's up now?

clear dove
#

i fixed it's frame with epoxy so many times....

#

it would break its own frame while homing

thorny dragon
#

knock off mini i3, real mini i3, knock off i3, ender 3, resin printer of some brand, then the k1 and p1s

thorny dragon
#

mainly battery doors

shell cargo
#

Sure!

clear dove
#

I'm gonna try out that DMX JP one next 💖

thorny dragon
#

imma update my spreadsheet of scanned and tested parts

#

guess it was pretty updated since yesterday was pretty much all dmog

shell cargo
# clear dove

I want to build a Voron 0.2 so bad, but I may do any Ender 3 NG conversion first

thorny dragon
#

also @clear dove is that dmog a jp or eng?

clear dove
#

oh JP!!!!!!!!!!!!

thorny dragon
#

no no thats good to know

#

i thought this device was eng but it was jp

#

thought i had a eng v1

clear dove
#

oh dear the uh DMX JP battery door doesn't really have a flat surface

thorny dragon
#

i do have an eng v3 ill scan the door on just in case but i think jp and eng are the same

clear dove
#

I might modify it a teeny bit in blender if you don't mind

thorny dragon
#

straight up

#

but that was the first edit so idk if more needs to be done, ive gotten a better hang of meshmixer since sat or sun

#

ive been smoothing and cutting more spots now

thorny dragon

mine's orca too! huh

thorny dragon

i can go and fix up the print again though

but if you get a good edit i can just update with that

thorny dragon
#

love you humulos!

clear dove
#

yeah gimme a minute I'm gonna see if I can clean some stuff up 😄

thorny dragon
#

ive been going through and smoothing all the outside areas and inside walls and if things stick out ill try my best. holes if they are not clean enough ill smooth or cut out. tabs ill use a black and clean the side that gets rounded off a bit cause the scanner cant get a hard edge.

#

im taking a break from scanning today but will be back on it tomorrow since ill have that slime

floral crest
#

And thank you too, @clear dove

clear dove
#

gonna have to test fit because i just remodeled this bit, but the lumpiness bothered me 😆

time to print haha

I also smoothed out a couple of the sides and ran a remesh to make it a little lower poly

thorny dragon
#

oooh, kinda sexy

#

i am going through it and cleaning it myself a little like ive been doing now

clear dove
#

if this prints well i'll send you my edits!

I tend to just remodel and then boolean things onto the original so I can tweak it

#

printing now!

thorny dragon
#

thats fair, if this was tinkercad id be better at it lol

floral crest
#

Sorry. Wrong @ 😅

thorny dragon
#

That one side is a lot smoother if you saw how it was lol

clear dove
#

This one jus at 100% too, no resizing

#

I'll send my version if you want it

I think that little circular printed area could be smoothed out tho, if you haven't already

thorny dragon
#

Was the change just the hole and cleaning the sides?

clear dove
#

I actually didn't fully clean the sides, just ran the flatten tool along the sides a bit.
but yea just the hole

and i just filled this so it won't print as a circle lump next time

thorny dragon
#

lol lump

#

Ok yeah send it over, I’ll probably do some extra smoothing like I did for the one I had

#

But the hole looks so much better

#

Oh you smoothed out the dial thing too

#

But I’m super happy overall it was a perfect fit, I bet if I had done more on it then the old edit would have been fine

clear dove
#

Yeah the fit is like literally perfect!!!

thorny dragon
#

Validation!!!!!

#

Glad I wasn’t just getting lucky

clear dove
#

oh woops

#

that has an error lemme fix it real quick

#

my sculpt tools weren't set to ignore the backfaces 😆

#

ok sending again, so sorry about that i was not paying attention and then i got sidetracked dsgjkhdsfjkgh

thorny dragon
#

All good

clear dove
thorny dragon
#

Sweet, I’ll give it a print

#

alright sent to print. i will clean it up a little for the end upload though but it looks good with that screw hole edit

thorny dragon
#

Printed well. Holes are visually better but the tab thickness is still the downside without edits so I’ll fix that when I smooth and such

#

Ya know, next time i scan a PCB imma try out the color portion too so we can have a visual detail not just shapes

#

cause it would be handy for one idea i had before to replace degraded buttons with dome buttons on flex pcbs

floral crest
#

Hot dang, that'd be sic! uneedthis

thorny dragon
#

right? ive never done flex but the idea would be to use those super thin dome buttons like on a switch and have the pcb line up with test pads so you just bend and solder

#

or just a tad bit of thin tape or 2 gnd points and then thin magnet wire

#

but imagine our guides for mods like the pen20, having a 3d model with color?

floral crest
#

Oh, everybody would be Hella down for that, not to mention hella appreciate having another method of replacing buttons that doesn't involve resin casting zinokek

#

Ugh, and the color customization options would be off the roof!!!

thorny dragon
#

yeah the idea for the button thing would be that we can use printed buttons instead making it quick but the OG's might add enough force but we would just have try

floral crest
#

I'd be down to mail an og for button testing

thorny dragon
#

but that would also require me to learn a bit of a new skill on PCB stuff

#

ive got a few OG's

floral crest
#

Oops, got too ahead of myself 😅

#

Ah, okay!

thorny dragon
#

i think it would mainly require me knowing how to take the model and design a pcb based on the model

#

im sure its easier than i think

#

maybe an svg shape i can import into easyEDA or whatever it is

#

illl take my og back apart tomorrow and try if i have time after the slime vpets battery door/clip (going to be a hard one)

#

its clip doesnt come off so there is a decent chance ill have to snap it off to scan fully

#

plus its clear and dark so a liberal amount of scanning spray is needed

clear dove
thorny dragon
#

alight, printing the last edit of the jp dmx battery door

#

printer was busy most of the night printing desiccant holders cause moisture

#

but after that ill upload this and the dmog to sites

#

obv ill add assistance credits to the edit for @clear dove on the dmx

thorny dragon
#

print was puuuurfect

thorny dragon
#

I added a new field to my sheet for whats been verified by another user or printer

clear dove
thorny dragon
#

rip color mapping lol

hoary gust
#

oo I didn't know it could texture the meshes as well, that's neat

thorny dragon
#

Yeah, i knew it could but i had only tried with the ferret scanner so i didnt know how it owuld be with this

thorny dragon
#

So the Mini and Mini Xros both use the same doors so imma only scan one of them

floral crest
thorny dragon
#

The slime didn’t show today so that will be tomorrow

#

I also had to order more ram for my desktop cause the apps apparently use up all my ram

floral crest
#

Eventual, dedicated 3d print desktop? 😂 dynasno

thorny dragon
thorny dragon
#

It’s not like I was lacking in ram but windows…

#

So going from 32gb to 64gb

floral crest
#

Would be worth the eventual investment so you can keep a general desktop and 3d print stuff seperate

thorny dragon
#

Also, if you were in a pickle, I just realized the ic battery cover would work

floral crest
#

Oooo, that's nice to know!
I own both and never even considered it dynaslulz

thorny dragon
#

same lol

thorny dragon
#

meh for the holes, the dent is real

floral crest
#

Where'd that dent come from?

thorny dragon
#

old owner i guess took a screw driver or something to open it rather than remove the screw is my guess

#

ive had it for many years, sadly never just goes away on its own lol

thorny dragon
floral crest
floral crest
# thorny dragon

Here I thought the D-Scanner was only limited to the shell being painted for customization options, this is great!

thorny dragon
#

Yeah I’m happy I didn’t just toss the d-scanner out because it was a lost cause electronically

floral crest
#

I looked through your list of owned devices in case you needed one and was happy to see you had practically all of them!
How did the clip print out? Sturdy enough for use? 👀

thorny dragon
#

Yeah, it’s really similar to the d3 and I used the d3 for a couple of hours, probably don’t use PLA cause my body heat alone made it bend out of place but PETG would work well and not break since it would have some give

#

Oh but you do want to print so the layer lines are going down not across

#

But the clips is separate so it’s easy to just print another.

floral crest
#

I must aquire a 3d printer this year

thorny dragon
#

Well, I had my first hard as hell scan that while it got enough details for a remake for sure, not enough to even print at all

#

These have been pretty much flat besides curves on edges and such

hoary gust
#

dmx scans would be awesome, since they can also work with the dm20 devices as well

thorny dragon
#

We have the battery door scanned, I’m just taking a break on scans to try and learn to model things

floral crest
#

I say practice them curves

thorny dragon
#

If I figure out how to do that shape I might be in a better place to try and remodel shells

floral crest
#

Could help with other devices that have them

thorny dragon
#

Yeah, so I might give it a shot but I’ll def have to watch some vids rather than guess through it as usual…maybe

floral crest
#

Watch a video or two, and then jump right in DeviHAA
If you still have trouble, take a break and watch a few more videos zinokek

thorny dragon
#

yeah i just cant find or dont understand what im needing to do to make the curves for a square like this

floral crest
#

Can one make 3d models in blender to transfer to an stl file or somethin?

thorny dragon
#

Yeah

#

I think sheep did that

floral crest
#

This why I need to start learning 3d modeling in blender

clear dove
# floral crest This why I need to start learning 3d modeling in blender

Yep I use blender! It has importer/exporters for most common file formats and add-ons for many more.

I highly recommend it because it's very multifunctional and flexible software. It's not too hard to pick up if you drill yourself on the shortcut keys, but it can take some time to develop muscle memory.

I also recommend starting out with classic right click selection style because most tutorials are written for the old fashioned selection style and I feel it's more efficient.

There's also add-ons to make hard surface modelling easier too, I haven't messed with any of them yet tho since I mostly do organic modelling anyways.

clear dove
#

Something called "variable fillet"?

thorny dragon
#

You can do a plane and shape it but i guess i just dont get how to make it "good" but ill see

#

you can also do a sketch shape and use it to cut away but...yeah didnt go super duper well either but possible

thorny dragon
#

hmmm....so like i can define a plane and curve it but i cant move it and then change its curve? why does this feel more complicated than it should...

thorny dragon
#

still struggled with this yesterday but i guess i need to try other things to learn a bit maybe. i might try to make just random things but i think imma scan one of my pagers to make a stand for today.

#

other than that i realized if i go and finish off that medabots medal i might be able to make metal medals in the future with the cnc if im able to figure out how that thing works when it comes

@thorny dragon
I come to you today, on this day of August the 21st, to ask thee for your help prayge
I recently bought 2 Pendulum Progress' and realized they do not have lids, either of them
Would I be able to ask you to scan and refine a battery cover for them? I can then have them printed out from one of the many services
If you would need compensation for the effort, please let me know 🙏

thorny dragon
#

Yeah, I can. It’s been a bit since I scanned but things are settling down. But, I need a cover to scan…

#

So I can’t really do that if you only have some without them
