Hi all. I’ve got a repair that has completely stumped me.

I have here a dmog ver4 where the screen times out by itself. If you press any button that gets registered as an input, the screen turns back on (so only B on the egg screen, but ABC on the raising screen and clock set screen)

I’ve tried replacing the main capacitor, the crystal oscilator, both of the diodes, and two of the resistors. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this bizarre issue?

The screen is still visible at this one angle when it’s off, too.

So it seems like it’s linked to the speaker specifically. The screen gets activated for a second or two whenever the speaker sounds, but if the devices is muted the screen stays off

I've had this issue with some classic devices when the batteries are on their way out, have you tested it with other batteries?

I have indeed! But I’ve managed to fix it

I swapped out the smd capacitors

I also threw some new batteries in for good measure just to be on the safe side 🤣

My test batteries were from 1997 so you were 100% right to suggest I change em LOL

My Mini V1 did this this on low battery. It would actually save at the point of the screen turning off and then continue when a button was pressed. I only noticed this when checking the time.

plus it still was full of food
