Model:
Lenovo Legion 7 16ACHg6

Describe the issue:
The laptop would randomly shut down. At times, the mousepad would become unresponsive and the RGB lighting would stop working. Initially, the laptop shut down every few hours, then progressively every few minutes. After about two days of this cycle, it eventually stopped turning on completely.

What have you tried already?
I tried rebooting the laptop, letting the battery fully drain, and then holding the power button for about 10 seconds. I did not open the laptop until recently.

When did the issue start?
The issue started last year. within 2 days it was unresponsive, only opened it today

Did you install any new drivers or software before the issue began?
No, not to my knowledge.

Can you provide images or videos showing the issue?
i provided what happens when turned on

#

@sage bloom is this a better put post

sage bloom
#

lets try CRISIS BIOS

still widget
#

is this on the laptop itself? it’s completely bricked and won’t turn on, the only response i receive is the power button itself, the lights in the back and the fans

sage bloom
#

you have response in your led button

#

its white

#

and on the power led

#

which is okay for crisis bios to be done

#

so try it

still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#
  1. Create a FAT32, GPT formatted USB Stick, and copy the file (.bin) in root
  2. turn off the laptop
  3. plug in USB (but not in Always On (small power icon) USB)
  4. hold Fn+R and plug the charger
  5. keep holding Fn+R and press power button
  6. wait for beep
#

this is just the summary, read the guide above to get the .bin

#

gkcn.bin will be the name

still widget
#

okay, i need a usb stick?

sage bloom
#

yes

still widget
#

okay, any will do?

sage bloom
#

sure i guess

#

it just needs to be FAT32, GPT

still widget
#

would this work @sage bloom

sage bloom
#

sure

still widget
#

okay thank you

sage bloom
#

not sure what that brand is

#

its something from walmart?

#

you dont really need to cheap out on these things but its a one time thing hopefully

still widget
#

is this better?

sage bloom
#

yeah

#

i mean the above is good but

#

its rather cheap

#

not like USBs have to be expensive, just buy something branded so you can at least have some warranty or something

still widget
#

definitely, thank you

#

is this one alright, i’d receive it within an hour

sage bloom
#

you might need to partition it

#

idk size wise if 128GB is okay

still widget
#

what do you recommend

sage bloom
#

uh, not sure

#

try the 128GB if thats a fast to try

still widget
sage bloom
#

worst case scenario, you need to make 2 partitions on the usb, place bin in 32GB GPT FAT32 one

still widget
#

i’m sorry i don’t really know what that means, i can get a 2 pack if needed

sage bloom
#

you can partition USBs, so your 128GB can have 1 32GB partition and rest in the second one

#

go with 128GB one, hope for best

still widget
#

okay

#

alright just ordered the 128

sage bloom
#

until it comes, do the guide and find the .bin

#

so you can just format the drive and use it

still widget
#

okay thank you

sage bloom
still widget
still widget
#

@sage bloom i finally got it

sage bloom
still widget
#

i honestly don’t know where or how to start

sage bloom
#

ec reset guide is in #1020285176531669012

sage bloom
still widget
#

i’ve been watching videos on how people do it but i just don’t get it

sage bloom
#

tell me which part isnt explained

still widget
#

i plugged in the power cord, usb, clicked on the power then held windows and b and didn’t get anything

sage bloom
#

windows and b?

#

🙂

still widget
#

am i supposed to do that on another computer?

sage bloom
#

you are supposed to do that on your "dead" computer

#

the legion

#

did you make the .bin file?

#

did you place it on the usb?

#

is the usb fat32 gpt formated?

still widget
#

okay i thought so, but how. the computer doesn’t turn display anything

sage bloom
#

it doesnt have to display anything

#

you wait for beeping sound and let it beep until it recovers to windows

still widget
#

it hasn’t beeped

#

how can i “activate” that

sage bloom
#

you held windows + B

still widget
#

yes

sage bloom
#

maybe reading is important

#

its not win + B

#

its Fn+R

still widget
#

thank you

sage bloom
#

i already wrote that in the guide

#

idk why you arent reading that

still widget
#

i tried that too and it wasn’t beeping

sage bloom
#

does the usb have bin in it?

still widget
#

i’m not sure. where would it say

#

i have another laptop i can download the recovery bin onto if that’s what you mean

#

would that help?

#

would it be under recovery media

sage bloom
#

i dont think you have done anything that was told you should do

#

download the BIOS, make the crisis bin

#

put in on USB and only then will it beep

still widget
#

okay, i’m really trying. how can i download the bios

sage bloom
#

on the site you are looking at

#

manual update > bios

#

clean this up and make it gkcn.bin, follow the guide

still widget
still widget
sage bloom
#

yes

#

you wont be able to do this on a phone

still widget
#

okay i assumed so, thank you

still widget
#

okay thank you

still widget
sage bloom
#

did you open the guide?

#

did you download the apps from the guide

#

did you do any of the steps

still widget
sage bloom
#

so 1h and all you got is tools?

still widget
#

am i missing anything here?

sage bloom
still widget
#

thank you

sage bloom
#

i cant be here all day waiting for you to do 1 thing, please read the guide and do

#

then ping me if you are stuck on anything

still widget
#

i’ll be here from here on out

#

okay i downloaded 64

sage bloom
#

no, wait

#

you didnt expand the

#

assets

#

it literally say

#

UEFITool

#

..win64.zip

still widget
#

i just downloaded it. do i need to do something with the file itself?

sage bloom
#

show me

still widget
sage bloom
#

UEFITool

still widget
#

got it

#

do i delete the other one

sage bloom
#

yes

still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#

extract UEFITool and go to step 3

#

and continue

#

then step 6

still widget
#

it’s saying to open it using 7z, what is that

still widget
sage bloom
#

you already have the BIOS.fd

#

i sent it to you

#

look, just rename it to gkcn.bin and head on to step 6

#

i thought you might do this day before

#

which i asked you to do

still widget
#

rename bios.fd or the folder i just extracted

sage bloom
#

bios.fd, read the guide

#

english is not your first language?

still widget
#

no actually, it’s german. but i feel like im pretty fluent in english. i apologize im really trying my best. i’m sorry if im upsetting you

#

everything here looking okay?

sage bloom
#

just gkcn.bin matters now

#

look at step 6

still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#

plug in usb, format to FAT32, when done, place the .bin inside the USB, safely remove the usb

sage bloom
still widget
#

okay so! i cleared the usb, and also confirmed it is FAT32

#

i also believe it is already gpt

sage bloom
#

okay

still widget
#

anything out of the ordinary?

sage bloom
#

continue with steps

still widget
#

okay was making sure it was all good

#

thank you

#

i clicked on the usb to make sure it had .bin and got this

sage bloom
#

what are you doing now?

still widget
#

i opened files and clicked on the usb to make sure it was .bin

#

and it popped up saying it needs to be formatted

sage bloom
#

so what did you do earlier when you said you confirmed it was FAT32

still widget
#

disc management and it said FAT32 next to it before i cleared it

sage bloom
#

that means you removed the formatting from it

still widget
#

right

sage bloom
#

this is great, we are going backwards as time progresses

still widget
#

fat32 is no longer on its file system. i realized that. i apologize

#

how can i read it

#

re add*

sage bloom
#

then place .bin in the USB once the formatting is done

#

then safely remove it

still widget
#

see see i assumed that

sage bloom
#

great

still widget
#

but i only have FAT, NTSF and exFAT

#

i looked it up and it says it’s commonly hidden on bigger usbs

sage bloom
#

yes, you need to assign it to a 32GB partition on your now clean USB

#

you can do it through disk management

still widget
#

how so

#

right click disk one, options are properties, eject, change drive letter and paths

#

and help, which i’m receiving from you. thank you

sage bloom
#

open cmd as admin and input diskpart then click enter

#

then input list disk and hit enter

#

input select disk and then number of your USB drive

#

hit enter

#

then show me what you see

still widget
#

unfortunately i’m stuck again. he says right click on pc and click manage but that’s not an option for me

sage bloom
#

its okay, open disk management as you did before

still widget
#

okay

#

i used something called rufus and believe to have fixed it

sage bloom
#

okay

#

now in that 32GB partition

#

place .bin and show me

still widget
still widget
sage bloom
still widget
sage bloom
#

no

#

do the video

still widget
#

okay, so when he says to click manage pc what do i do there

sage bloom
still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#

thats disk management

still widget
#

so just continue on disk management

sage bloom
#

did you do it?

still widget
#

working on it, just deleted volume

sage bloom
#

gave you the number

still widget
#

use their number?

#

nono 32gb

sage bloom
#

32768 for 32GB

still widget
#

thank you was looking for that

#

drive letter doesn’t matter right

sage bloom
#

and the other partition can be the rest of the size

#

doesnt matter

#

it only matters that its FAT32

still widget
#

“mounting the following empty ntsf folder”

sage bloom
#

no

still widget
#

ignore that

#

okay

#

file system fat32

sage bloom
#

its not liket the guy in the vidoe shows steps

#

yes

still widget
#

okay so continue from there thank you

#

i’ll continue from video

#

i’ll be back

sage bloom
#

hope so

#

this could have been a 10min job

still widget
#

okay so for the leftover it’s not letting me make it fat32 i’m assuming bc its 80gb

#

do i do 32768 again until they’re all fat32

sage bloom
#

holy shit

#

no you dont

#

the other partition is full size

#

it doesnt matter

#

in the 32GB one, place the .bin file

#

and eject the usb safely

still widget
#

so leave the rest unallocated

sage bloom
#

make the other 82GB a healthy partition

#

go for it

still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#

its 5s

#

shouldnt take you long

still widget
#

ntfs is alright?

#

or do not format

sage bloom
#

uh thats fine

still widget
sage bloom
#

ntfs is fine

still widget
#

okay

#

healthy:)

sage bloom
#

great

#

now open 32 and place bin then safely eject

sage bloom
still widget
#

okay

sage bloom
#

once you hear beeping you should be able to stop holding Fn+R

#

leave it to do its thing

still widget
#

okay so i heard no beeping so im going to run this by you

#

plug in laptop

#

first power or usb

sage bloom
#

did you read the guide

still widget
#

yes i have it open right now

sage bloom
#

usb, then power while holding Fn+R

#

as you are still holding Fn+R you press the power button

still widget
#

doing that

#

so far nothing

#

charger light is blinking

#

now it stopped

sage bloom
#

okay, check if there are any logs now on that usb

still widget
#

so unplugged and replug on other pc correct

#

it says it can take up to 5 mins, ignore that?

sage bloom
#

once it beeps

#

for you it didnt beep

still widget
#

oh okay

#

the charger light keeps blinking then stopping after a couple seconds

#

unplugging usb

#

into other pc

#

what should i do now. open gkcn.bin?

sage bloom
#

no

#

is there any other file on the 32GB

still widget
#

no

sage bloom
#

are you sure its not beeping?

still widget
#

yes, would i have to adjust audio?

#

i doubt it’s muted but still

sage bloom
#

okay remove usb safely

#

the dead pc

#

turn it off

#

unplug it

#

redo, usb, hold fn+r plug charger, while holding fn+r press power button

#

did you plug usb in always on port?

#

change port if yes

still widget
#

there’s three ports. all ss and one is ss+

#

redid and no beep

#

rgb flashed like 5 letters but that’s happens randomly when i turn it on

#

do you want me to download anydesk and give you control of my pc to make sure i have it all downloaded right

still widget
#

i listed all my issues and was told it’s probably an end stage motherboard problem and i’m more or less fucked

sage bloom
still widget
#

it’s the motherboard, i appreciate the help but it’s 100% the motherboard

#

i’m just going to sell it for parts

sage bloom
#

okay
