Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H (Gen 10)
Model: Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H (Gen 10)
Describe the issue: I recently bought a Gigabyte M27Q2 QD external monitor, and when I plugged in the usb-c to DP into the monitor, I am getting letterboxing, with the screen displayed centered and on the bottom of the monitor, with large black bars on the right, left and top of the monitor. When I got into settings in windows, in display, there is no option to select 1440p, the highest is 1080p.
What have you tried already?: I have tried forcing resolution in nvidia control panel, but this just creates a 1440p image inside a 1080p size screen and the letterboxing is still present. I disabled hybrid mode in legion toolkit ie forced the dgpu to output, and still no change. Used the custom resolution created in nvidia control panel, and it did not change the active signal. Tried to reset the EDID(?) of the monitor, unplugged and turned off for 10 seconds, no change.
When did it start producing the issue: First time i plugged the monitor in.
Did you install new drivers or software?: I updated nvidia firmware to the latest, and also update legion toolkit.
Can you provide images/videos to show us the issue:
#Letterboxing when using external monitor. Resolution stuck at 1080p.

what USB-C to DP did you buy?
if you're using a USB-C to DP cable, try a USB-C to DP1.4 adapter instead, since this monitor came with a DP cable already
Thanks for the reply, I have had the issue when using hdmi-hdmi, usb-c to dp, and usb-c to usb-c. I will try the adapter tonight, but I have tried 6 cables and they all give me the same issue.
hmm usb-c to usb-c should've also worked
Do you think it is a monitor issue? Or an laptop output issue
unsure
for fun can you try plugging the monitor into the other USB-C (the one connected to the iGPU)
Which USB-C is connected to the iGPU? I was fairly certain the manual for the legion 7 gen 10 says all the usb-c outputs connect ot the dgpu and are capable of dp 1.4 output
jarrod tested the thunderbolt port to be iGPU
C
right
Same thing
And now the custom resolution from nvidia is gone, so jarrod is clearly correct
fustrating
that's so weird.
looking at the manual there's settings to set Type-C compatibility and USB 3.2 support, along with the usual Reset All setting, try those.

you could also use CRU to just delete the EDID profile for the monitor, and then unplug & plug it back in
https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU
Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) is an EDID editor that focuses on custom resolutions. CRU shows you how the monitor defines resolutions and other capabilities and gives you the power to change it. Add
Cheers, I'll give both of these a try
