#Fans turning on and off repeatedly on balanced mode

Model: Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 8 (16" rtx 4060 laptop GPU)

The issue: for the past 3 days, my fans have been turning on and off repeatedly while in balanced mode or quiet mode, and that doesn't happen after switching to performance mode in Lenovo Vantage. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and have no updates currently for windows or Lenovo vantage. The fans turn off, then after a minute or two burst back on and stay on for another couple minutes, then back off, rinse and repeat.

Did you monitor the temp and RPM ?

#

And from next time , follow the format of posting in here

LLT is vantage replacement

#

I'll check that out right now, thanks

these both softwares does the similar things so there can be contradiction having or running at the same time .

placid lark
#

noted on that, thank you

#

I have installed LLT, and it seems the fans are turning off once the temps hit 58 or higher, and turn off after it gets to 57

#

and that is happening way too often

#

so its looping basically

#

turning on and off every couple minutes

#

switching to quiet mode makes the fans run at a higher rpm for some reason

#

only stable one is performance mode, so i don't know what is wrong

#

And
Windows power mode to
"Best efficiency"

placid lark
#

Done I did that

#

Could something be broken in the balanced mode?

fair ermine
#

Nope

placid lark
#

I would much rather be in balanced mode all the time though if it wasn't doing this, and performance while gaming

Which should be the opposite if it is "quiet" haha

Try soft ec reset

I'll try that now

#

I switch back to balanced mode and try that?

fair ermine
#

Soft ec reset automatically switch power mode to balanced .

#

Its a indication that ec reset was successfully done

placid lark
#

Oh ok then

#

I have done the soft ec reset

#

Back in balanced mode

#

Now to wait and see

#

Thanks for your help by the way

#

Unfortunately the issue still persists

#

However, only when AC is plugged in

#

When not plugged in, the fans turned off and didn't come back on

#

Probably because the temps didn't go higher than 57

fair ermine
#

Definitely a very odd behaviour

#

You can try to upgrade bios version if newest is available for your model

#

Otherwise you can downgrade if not

#

I have the latest bios and Intel ME installed

#

And latest Nvidia drivers

#

This problem arose a while after the bios/UEFI updates

#

So it might be unrelated

fair ermine
#

Sure but we can try atleast

placid lark
#

I have reset the bios to it's default settings

#

Same problem

#

I will try to downgrade the bios

placid lark
#

Bios has been downgraded

#

Will check if the issue persists

#

aaaand it persists

#

I'm starting to think that it is currently just not too cold or too hot

#

Or something

#

Not too cold that they stay off

#

And not too hot that they stay on

#

I'm talking about ambient temperature affecting the CPU

#

The laptop is new, not even 3 months old so it can't be dust

#

So basically it's juggling between 57 and 60

#

Because it is not turning on and off in set time intervals

#

Sometimes it takes longer to turn off and longer to turn on

#

But I do think that the repeated starting and stopping of the fans is not healthy

This wasn't happening from the get go

#

The laptop was normal up until 4 days ago

#

The only thing that has changed since 4 days ago is that I travelled

#

And changed the grill of my laptop to the blue one that came in the box

#

And I deionized the screwdriver just in case

#

But true it is pretty weird
