Hi everyone,
This is actually the first Legion 5 I ever bought. For the first couple of years it ran really well — solid performance, great temps, I was honestly pretty happy with it.
But recently things took a really bad turn. The GPU (RTX 3070) keeps randomly stopping — sometimes after just 30 minutes, sometimes after 6–7 hours of use. When it happens, the screen is filled with purple dotted artifacts (pics below), and the laptop either freezes or forces a restart.
I asked around about repairs and basically got three options:
1. Disable the dedicated GPU and only use iGPU (which kinda kills the point of a gaming laptop).
2. Try a GPU chip replacement (risky, not guaranteed to last).
3. Replace the entire motherboard — which would cost me about $390.
Honestly, I feel really disappointed. I didn’t expect my first Legion to fail like this, especially with a GPU issue. Now I’m stuck wondering:
- Is it worth paying $390 to replace the board?
- Or should I just cut my losses and save that money toward a new laptop?
- Has anyone here had the same problem with Legion 5 or RTX 30-series GPUs?
Any advice or shared experiences would mean a lot. Thanks!
