Model: Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16AHP9
Describe the issue: i bought a second ssd (samsung 990 pro) upon plugging it in and screwing it in, windows and bios see jack shit.
what have you tried already?: i took out the ssd from slot number 1 (the one with windows), put in the samsung 990 pro in there, and bios sees it no problem. so that means the new ssd works.
did you install new drivers or software?: no? im a little bit confused, if windows tells me to update, i update immediatly.
can you provide images/videos to show us the issue: yes

i checked this issue with chatgpt, and it says that this slot could've been disabled by lenovo themselves? the fuck?
MTM: 83DH003GLT (if it helps)
otherwise, the laptop is functioning perfectly fine
why did you ask chatgpt
do you really think LLM is point where it knows what the fuck its talking about
what if you swap positions for the SSDs?
I did that earlier. The BIOS only detected the samsung 990 pro, it didnt detect the sk hynix boot drive
im desperate ok😭 😭
it shouldnt be disabled, thats the thing
did you disable battery or remove the connector while installing it?
uh, well this is now tricky
some parts of the world have issues with static, others dont
i hope that you didnt induce static electricity on the ssd slot, because it would ruin it
i personally dont have static problems, but i also recommend doing the battery disable from BIOS
there's a chance for THAT? isnt that like 0,1% of that happening tho
oh you would be surprised to how many cases we had
again, not saying it is
but there are steps to ensure its not going to happen
Soft EC reset:
Shutdown the laptop, unplug all cables, charger too.
Press and hold power button for 60 seconds, keep holding even if the laptops powers on, release after 60 seconds and then power o...
Result 1 of 2
how would that help tho? im not really experienced in the laptop department, but how can a mere restart along with taking out the cmos battery+unplugging the battery help?
i assume in this scenario ec means electric current, would refreshing it or whatever have a chance of making the ssd slot work again?
lets try if you can, if you cant, try soft one
i have also tried to search up to see how LLM managed to say that the slot is disabled and cant find anything currentyl
people upgrade the laptop normally and it works
I noticed something
Long story short
The main slot, i can feel the ssd clicking into place and it holding on tight
But the second slot
It barely holds on
And i kind of have to use force in order to keep it in
Also, no satisfying click sound
I have managed to do the soft reset, still no results
check the slot? nothing is blocking in it?
Realistically, what do i do? It seems that something is wrong with the ssd slot itself rather than some static electricity
Lemme check real quick
Doesnt seem like it
you dont have warranty on this?
I do
But will they accept it? Cant they say: oh? User opened this device? Fuck you we wont accept it
where do you live
Lithuania
its EU, right?
Besides, if i give them my laptop, wont they wipe the current ssd?
afaik they cant deny you warranty for opening the machine
Yes
no? they only swap the mobo
talk with support
try
Will try!
You don't have ssd fully plugged in there .The Yellow part shouldn't be visible. Try pushing it abit further if it doesn't stay hold it with hand then boot and see if it detects or not.
Make sure to not touch anything else when it's on
Or just simply tight the screw so that it doesn't fall back .
its in too much?
I think this part will go more further.
Happens, i had to zoom the picture otherwise it wasn't visible ot me aswell.
@coarse lake please read above and do what you did in the video actually
you managed to secure it properly in the last few seconds
A few hours ago i was able to get this secured
Nothing
and its not able to go in more?
Not rlly no
okay
Pretty sure that i'll break the pins if i force in the ssd
Aight
Uhh bad luck , contact lenovo now .
