I recently purchased a Lenovo Legion 9i Gen 9 with an Intel Core i9-14th Gen and RTX 4090, in open-box condition, for around 2000€. It’s an absolute beast on paper, but I’m running into performance issues that I don’t know how to fix.
The Problem:
When I run Cinebench R23, I’m getting only 16,000–17,000 points in a 10-minute multi-core run, which seems very low for this kind of CPU (shouldn't it be 24k+?).
Also, my Lenovo Vantage software is broken. It doesn’t open at all, which means I can’t enable Extreme Performance mode, change thermal/fan profiles, or switch GPU modes.
What I’ve Tried:
Reinstalled Vantage multiple times (including Lenovo System Interface), but no luck.
Tried the Ultimate Performance power plan via CMD – small boost, but nothing major.
Thought about using Lenovo Legion Toolkit from GitHub or even MSI Afterburner for GPU tweaks — but I’m not 100% sure how to do it safely.
Tried looking for guides on YouTube and Reddit, but most assume Vantage is working or don’t explain step-by-step.
Also, I can't figure out how to benchmark my GPU properly (Cinebench R23 doesn’t test GPU, I just found that out 😅), and I had trouble installing 3DMark and FurMark — maybe I used the wrong links or messed up the steps
My Weird Solution (That Actually Helped a Bit):
I have a square house fan that blows air 5+ feet. I put my laptop on top of it (carefully, no vents blocked), and it 100% reduced temps. Probably works better 99% coolers 😂.
🆘 What I Need Help With:
How can I fix or replace Lenovo Vantage properly?
Is Legion Toolkit safe, and how should I set it up to unlock performance?
Can anyone guide me on overclocking / undervolting / fan curves for this machine?
What’s the best way to test the GPU performance (and how to install these tools properly)?
Any other hidden settings in BIOS or Windows I should check for Performance?
