model: lenovo legion 5 pro , rtx3070ti
issue: over heating but it is weird
i did not install new drivers
i did clean and ptm and all things but my gpu reach 85 and when i lift laptop all way up it is still 85 degree, but when i put laptop on side like 90 degree in air , i get insta temp drop from 85 to 77 with in 1 to 2 minutes so i do not understand what is going on

sonic pelican
#

The air passages is restricted likely

#

iirc it's still behaving same as we discussed on your other post .

#

Was the wattage stays same when temp drop to 77c?

true cliff
#

but i tried to lift laptop while flat , it was still heating

#

i rotate it to 90 degree

#

magic , heatsink works normally

sonic pelican
#

iirc i told you to not use the cooling pad you were using? Are you using that still?

sonic pelican
#

Not with the cooler underneath

true cliff
#

but i just do not understand why i get no result while lifting it up flat and i get insane result on 90 degree

true cliff
#

wait

sonic pelican
#

I would like to see 90° lift you are doing and the normal lift

true cliff
true cliff
#

i lift laptop

sonic pelican
#

Show picture

true cliff
#

wait i will take picture , kinda hard to do

#

litterly tilting laptop like this

#

made my gpu in AC 74 degree and with no AC made it 76

#

but from lift side

#

if i try right side , it will give opposite result make my gpu hit 86 in 1 minute xd

sonic pelican
#

This is how you should lift the laptop

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

with brush all vents were clean

sonic pelican
#

But the issue persist

true cliff
#

yh

#

i mean

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

i remember when i screw heatsink

#

there was one screw

#

that was doing friction

#

like i felt screw doing friction to something down there

sonic pelican
#

Heatsink probably not seated properly

true cliff
#

i felt it , but i tried lift it up and orient it right

#

and same screw does his friction thing

sonic pelican
#

These are only few things you can do

  1. Clean fans and exhaust vents with compressed air
  2. Repaste again and screw the heatsink properly
true cliff
#

they do not sell compressed air in this country

#

can i use lubricant oil

sonic pelican
#

No

#

Buy electric air duster that are advertised for electronics

true cliff
#

but it is probably the mounting issue right

#

i may try to like

sonic pelican
#

Could be

true cliff
#

unscrew all screws

#

and screw that friction thing first

#

and see if heatsink goes down

#

if it goes down , it means it works ?

sonic pelican
#

You'll have to repaste then

true cliff
#

would have to wait 20 days untill new ptm arrive @w@

#

but atleast it should give decent result with old ptm

#

not 85

sonic pelican
sonic pelican
true cliff
#

i mean i did take off heatsink alot of times

#

there is like rubber things under fan screws

#

it got stripped , so fan screws do not work anymore

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

last ptm was last month, and i did not take off heatsink

sonic pelican
#

When you lift the heatsink you repaste no matter what .

true cliff
#

it is the weirdest shit ever

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

that weird lift fixed overheating

true cliff
#

i screw them in

#

and they are not intact like they are usless

#

lose screw

sonic pelican
#

Then it will cause problem again

#

You'll need some extracter to remove those and install new ones

#

Until and unless they are not screwed properly, heatsink won't work at its full potential

true cliff
#

i tried to duct tap them

#

but i think there is like small rubber ring

#

that hold the small screws in place

#

and those ring are teared

sonic pelican
#

Yes could be, there are rubber type thingy in them

#

That's why you need new ones

true cliff
true cliff
#

i thought they are not removable

#

those are the small screws i talked about

sonic pelican
sonic pelican
sonic pelican
#

Or if you still have warranty ask for heatsink replacement

true cliff
#

do i push them

#

from down

sonic pelican

GhostFellow

To get started you will need -

  • A proper screwdriver kit with pry tools and suction cup Example
    or
  • PH00 or PH0 screwdriver
  • Pl...
sonic pelican
#

Watch thr guide here , see if they showed for your model

true cliff
#

for heatsink screws all work fine except that frictional screw

#

is sussy

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

will do , i will do it tmr and tell you what happened , thanks

true cliff
#

ello @sonic pelican

sonic pelican
#

Hii , doesn't look good to me .

true cliff
#

there is like

#

that screw

#

that i think it does not go all way down

sonic pelican
#

And it's gpu on that side aswel

true cliff
#

i unscrew then it lift heatsink

#

and screw it again

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

yh

#

there is also other screw

#

i told you abouty

#

waitt

#

turn on volume

#

it is like asmr

true cliff
# true cliff

that screw i feel like it is not screwed all way in , and i tried to like move screw or something but it is how far i can go with it

sonic pelican
#

Screw ring is stripped

true cliff
#

those stuff can get stripped

#

jesus

sonic pelican
#

Also your fans are not clean

true cliff
#

spring got stripped

#

oh i used lubricant oil on it yesterday

#

my home is dusty

#

it is kinda the normlal here

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

i would have to clean it everyday

true cliff
#

from outside

#

not inside

true cliff
sonic pelican
#

No the screw on the ring can also get stripped or whatever they call it , they won't work properly as they used to

true cliff
#

then my problem is heatsink mounting

sonic pelican
#

Yes

true cliff
#

so i should order

#

replacment screws

#

i opened link you sent me yesterday

#

could not find a way where they remove screws from heatsink

sonic pelican
true cliff
#

yes

#

i might just order screws from ali express

#

but idk how to take that spring screw out

sonic pelican
#

You'll have to research yourself for those thing, lenovo won't tell you how to remove

true cliff
sonic pelican
#

That's the kuri's picture and he removed himself i think

sonic pelican
# sonic pelican

@cinder hamlet
Tldr: the person is asking how to remove captive screws from heatsink

true cliff
#

chat gpt says just keep unscrewing xd

#

yh also that guy got same model

sonic pelican
#

We don't use chatGPT DUDE umm

true cliff
#

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

#

i kinda wanna try

#

removing them and put them again maybe spring jjust work by is own

#

wish

cinder hamlet
#

@sonic pelican @true cliff to remove those screws, you'll have to remove the heatsink, which means a repaste is required

sonic pelican
#

That's obvious kuri

true cliff
cinder hamlet
#

carefully remove the plastic washer

true cliff
#

on board ?

#

inside screw holes

cinder hamlet
#

under the heatsink right where the screws are

true cliff
#

I see something

true cliff
#

@cinder hamlet

true cliff
#

Bro just left me drowning 😭

Run heavy game and hold your laptop in 90 degree

fair brook
#

Meanwhile cpu 50% goes to 101-102 degrees

fair brook
true cliff
true cliff
#

Just run the game

#

And hold your laptop but not from vent parts

fair brook
#

U mean lifting back to 90 cone ?

true cliff
#

Yh

fair brook
#

I have about 50-60 cone on my pad. 90 are unreachable for me I guess
Anyway I guess problem somewhere inside
May be thermalpads or smth, I really don’t know
Repasted it about 1 week ago

fair brook
true cliff
#

You see how this guy holding laptop

#

Hold it like him while running game

#

From left side

fair brook
#

And what should I see there

true cliff
#

Do one on right and one on left

fair brook
#

Sry for my eng knowledge

true cliff
fair brook
#

Hm

true cliff
#

I wanna see if it is design flaw or is it only me problem

fair brook
#

But in this position side airducts gonna be blocked, no?

#

Nvm I’ll try

true cliff
#

Don't block vents just do all of that while laptop in air

fair brook
true cliff
#

Like the other side

fair brook
#

Already

true cliff
#

For me one side decrease temp , other side increased temp

true cliff
fair brook
#

May be idk

true cliff
fair brook
#

It was 101 and remains 101

#

After all manipulations

#

On full max fans

true cliff
#

Yh then my heatsink mount is so ass

true cliff
fair brook
#

4500

fair brook
true cliff
#

Mine looks permanent idk a way to fix it

true cliff
#

Mine 2022

#

They are close but a little different

fair brook
#

Bro did u met any freezing or shattering ? I though 85 degre its fine for these gpus on full load, no?

#

@true cliff seems like 85 on your gpu while gaming it’s ok

true cliff
#

Noo

#

Mine is rtx 3070 ti

#

When i

#

Do the trick i told you about

#

With AC on, it makes my gpu 73 degree🙂

#

On full load for like 10 minutes

#

When i do trick with AC off, 78 degree to 77

fair brook
#

Meh

true cliff
#

Without the trick and AC off gpu hit 82 to 83

#

85

#

On hot day

true cliff
fair brook
true cliff
#

Like i live 10 hours away from home and i move alot and uni , then gaming laptop for me

#

If you got gaming laptop for no reason then it's dumb decision

fair brook
true cliff
#

Those stuff gonna cost you more

fair brook
#

That’s the only problem man

#

That why I’ve got laptop

true cliff
#

Portable monitor exist and they are expensive

fair brook
true cliff
sonic pelican
#

Guys stay to the topic , if you want casual talk #off-topic

true cliff
#

I look at screw under heatsink it looks exactly like others

sonic pelican
#

Where?

true cliff
#

I looked online but it's different model , the exact same screw on top left

#

I think those stuff around gpu prevent it from getting fully screwed

#

Yh it's actually the normal xD

sonic pelican
#

Look at your picture, it definitely need more turn.
