Model: Legion Slim 5 16AHP9

Rtx4060 R7 8845Hs 2560x1600 165hz Model

This was my first test, gave me atrocious 7300 score despite the laptop being set on extreme mode under custom mode, so i went and cranked everything up to max again and to dgpu only mode from hybrid mode and also switched to performance mode and restarted my laptop.

This is my second test

9800 score, still not good.. my laptop is due a cleaning session but still, what can i do so fix this as much as i can before going to a service center.

(P.s. I'm not good with technical terms so guide me bit more on that)

Hi, first thing i noticed:
Disable the "demo" part in 3D Mark when benching to a) get results faster and b) avoid additional heat up (less of a factor, since you are not aiming for absolute high scores, just want to get decent performance).

apart from that the graphs look ok. no throttling on GPU or CPU, stable clocks and utility% during GPU and CPU Tests. CPU temps are a tad high during cpu test, but that's to be expected.

What the graphs don't tell you whether your notebook is using all it's power budget or is somehow limited to a lower TGP for example.

  • Get the free tool hwinfo
  • run it in "sensors only" mode
  • Re-Do the tests in 3d mark (without demo)
  • watch the sensor screen in hwinfo while 3dmark is running and send us a screenshot of the whole window.
#

to give you an idea what to look out for in the sensor window (lots of data!):

  • whether CPU or GPU is throttling, for example because of temps or because it's stuck in a lower power mode
  • what GPU power it reaches during the GPU Tests

disclaimer: not at my notebook right now, so the values you see in hwinfo on your end might have slightly different names or layout may be different, etc.

The demo part for some reason isn't able to be turned off as I'm using the free version of 3dmark, i tried switching it off but it's greyed out

silent elm
#

Also for some reason i don't see the cpu highlighted options on my hwinfo

slim shell
#

You don't have a second screen? You can run hwinfo with logging in the background and check afterwards. Haven't done an analysis of the csv logfiles ever tho

silent elm
#

I'm running the hwinfo on background now, I don't have a second screen available right now

looks good. cpu is not throttling and goes up to 65W which is in spec afaik

silent elm
#

Score is bad

#

It seems gpu is underperforming

slim shell
# silent elm

nothing out of the ordinary either as far as i can tell. 100W TGP is spec as well iirc

silent elm
#

These are the results just after the benchmark results

#

When i got my laptop the score was 10600 something, what can be the problem?

slim shell
#

~9800 and 10600 arent that different. probably drivers

silent elm
#

Did i install drivers incorrectly? Or it's simply asking for a cleanup

slim shell
#

as to whether the score is less than comparable systems: have to check myself, maybe wrong resolution?

silent elm
#

My display is at 2560x1600

#

The previous result (10600 one) was also on same resolution

#

I'm sure of that

slim shell
#

yeah would be surprised if 3dmark just ran at different resolutions. would make the results not comparable at all

silent elm
#

Lemme try running it on 1080p then

#

Do i overclock the gpu via LTT?

slim shell
#

so as far as i can tell the "better" scores (in benchmarks) are around ~11k with GPU overclocking, etc. or with Intel CPUs. So I wouldn't call a score around 10k atrocious

silent elm
#

Well i had a weird 7700 score yesterday despite running it on custom mode and all, it kinda shocked me a little

slim shell
#

probably your GPU stuck in a lower power mode or something. had this happen as well where the GPU (rtx4080 in my case) wouldn't go beyond 100W

silent elm
#

I'm noticing something, is the timespy capped at 60fps? I'm getting exactly 60fps very easily in graphics test 1, but it's capped at that point

slim shell
#

no its not

#

wouldn't make sense for a graphics benchmark that measures FPS. i get around 105FPS iirc

#

check your displays refresh rate first. shouldn't be capped either way but if the display is at >60Hz even forced Vsync shouldn't be the culprit

slim shell
#

so i don't think it's hard capping at 60

silent elm
#

Yeah around 60 i said approximately

#

But it doesn't go above at like 70 ish or more

#

And stays between 59-65 for the entirety

#

I'm gonna reinstall the drivers and try again, should i do it from nvidia app?

slim shell
#

yeah, doesn't point to something interfering tho. Try GPU UV/OC via Afterburner. For benching you should be good with like +200 core, +1000 mem

slim shell
#

not required tho. maybe if you are not sure whether you set some stuff in the nvidia app like whisper mode, I'd rather uninstall it

silent elm
#

I'm not using the nvidia app at all other than for driver updates
