#Nvidia GPU causing weird issues

Model: Legion 5 15arh05 (4600h + 1650)
Describe the issue:
MAIN ISSUE:
As you can see in the video, ON WINDOWS, the external display freezes, then refreshes.
This also happens with laptop display when I use discrete graphics mode.
DOES NOT OCCUR ON LAPTOP DISPLAY WHEN HYBRID MODE

ON LINUX, similar issue but instead of refreshing, the screen just freezes for like 3 seconds.

SECONDARY ISSUE:
artifacts and improper loading of display objects

Happens way more frequently on 1440p display (external) than 1080p (laptop's inbuilt) and even more when connected to 4k TV
Additionally, I ran uningine benchmark and it ran perfectly but no game would launch. even if it launches, it crashes. Also the issue did not occur when using open source drivers on linux

MY Assumption is the nvidia drivers are acting weirdly with some other drivers itself

What have you tried already?:

  • I have tried 4-5 drivers ranging from 470 to october's drivers which were working fine as well as latest 566 from NVIDIA
  • I have tried reinstalling both windows as well as linux

When did it start producing the issue:
Couple of days ago. I was playing valorant and game crashed. Ever since it has been like that.
**Did you install new drivers or software?: ** yes

Please help with the same! Thanks in advance...

edit:
system log whenever crash occurs:

The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\0000009a
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

It's more likely a GPU or memory failure rather than drivers. Run a GPU memory test to ensure it's not the issue, and if it is, return the laptop under warranty

Its not longer under warranty. Ended just 3 months ago 😦

#

Btw I am able to run valo by simply not installing nvidia drivers.
Runs on igpu
No monitor output though.

#

Ig this indicated gpu only issue?

thanks. will run it!

There are two possibilities: either the memory has errors, or the dGPU chip substrate has detached from the board, resulting in a poor connection, which often happens with Legions due to the compound under the chip. Alternatively, the GPU chip itself may be faulty.

:/
i am trying out every possible software solution i can find. if nothing works, will have to take to a repair guy to diagnose hardware. although most of them out here are kinda stupid 😦

there are plenty of posts on reddit with similar issues. ranging from drivers being problem to no diagnosis

If you're experiencing issues in two operating systems, it's definitely a hardware problem, especially if your laptop doesn't boot in discrete graphics mode. You just need to determine whether the problem is with the chip itself or the memory. If it's the memory, the repair will be relatively inexpensive, but if it's the chip, you'll need to consider whether the repair is cost-effective
