CBR23: Multi: 32567 Single: 2188 MP Ratio: 14.89x

Details

dGPU mode.
Custom performance plan: from here.
UV: -100mv CPU -75mv P core E core.
Cooling Stand: Digifly BS1 on Max setting (3/3).
-# i uninstalled all the lenovo apps & a few microsoft ones but that's balanced by me having powertoys, steam, startallback, eartrumpet, and throttlestop in the background. Aside from those running in the tray, nothing else was running & nothing was open.

Temps

-# Temps felt pretty low for all of the 3DMark ones, looking at LLT made me think I had 40+C temps but apparently according to 3dmark my actual average was 60C gpu and 78C cpu.
-# Temps with cinebench multicore hit peak 93C multiple times, but cinebench singlecore was only 60C it seemed.

Extra (below was with no UV)

dGPU + performance mode: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/121821554 21885
dGPU + custom mode: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/121822403 21933

#

here's the detailed screenshots from the dGPU + custom mode run

#

seems to indeed be true that average temps were ~70C cpu ~60C gpu

#

I forgot to profile the cinebench runs with HWInfo but dont really feel like running more benchmarks, im very happy with this as is

#

i suppose i might run more benchmarks if i decide to increase the UV to -140mv or smth

unkempt cedar
#

guh thats a bit of work, ill try more aggressive uv another day #legion-7pro message

๐Ÿ‘ Wow, is it true that generally 7i pro is better to tweak than 9i (no pro)? I can barely push the gpu score to 22000 in timespy

unkempt cedar
#

not sure what u mean by tweaking tho, i think they should be similar?

#

You're probably getting thermal throttled, so u can either OC/UV, or u can buy a good laptop cooler (or also clean fans and change the thermal putty)

restive glade
unkempt cedar
#

i think ppl justify the 9i for it's memory (ram) capability tho

#

Well to be clear, if it was me i would 10/10 times return and buy a 7i pro instead, but if that's not an option there are ways to justify it i think..

restive glade
#

return window passed already.

#

well, I guess I'll keep it and think something good out of it...cantbe at least I got it for a little bit less $$ because it is an openbox.. still 3k though.

#

also it is a bit weird that the multicore score in cinebench 2024 can reach 1875 but the single core is very poor, only like 102.

unkempt cedar
#

if it's only 102 that's not right, something's interfering and u need to re run it to get an accurate number

unkempt cedar
#

ask in #legion-9 or even 7pro

restive glade
unkempt cedar
restive glade
#

It seems 7pro has more power than 9i, the total power processor power target only goes up to 80w compared to 7pro's 110w; cross loading only to 60w instead of 109w....I suspect Lenovo knows 9i has a lame thermo system...

restive glade
#

the 2024 version? I think the 2023 version is better, some can reach 23k in stock settings.

restive glade
#

Mind sharing the tweaks? at least I can have a try...

restive glade
#

my machine obviously has a thermo problem. Maybe I should repaste it as well. CPU massively TT when running cinebench.

unkempt cedar
#

ahh

unkempt cedar
unkempt cedar
unkempt cedar
#

but i did have like youtube and firefox and a bunch of tabs open

restive glade
#

On my system, somehow cinebench is extremely sensitive. With UV configuration that has no problem with timespy and is stable with prime5 for 12 hours, cinebench crashes almost immediately.

unkempt cedar
#

and there's also decreasing core and cache ratios

Hey. Have you ever be able to find the best overclock and undervolt settings for 4090 gpu i9 14th gen system, friend ?

unkempt cedar
naive cliff
unkempt cedar
#

Yep! Sorry for not going in detail earlier, i was on my phone and wanted to get home before double checking

unkempt cedar
# naive cliff Nice. Mind sharing settings of yours ?

in throttlestop (CPU settings):

(AC Performance profile)

  • High Performance โœ”๏ธ
  • Speed Shift epp = 128 (default)
  • everything else can be left unchecked or on default

FIVR:

  • Undervolt simple:
    • CPU Core unchecked (see later)
    • P Cache: -99.6 mV ||(some people can do -100, but for me personally that causes instability so i stay at exactly 99)||
    • E Cache: -99.6 mV ||(same story as the P Cache, -100 doesnt work for me)||
    • System Agent, Intel GPU, iGPU Unslice: You can apply like -5 mV if you want but i personally don't since it becomes harder to tell what settings caused a crash
  • Undervolt V/F points:
    • In the V/F Point menu, check Use Core V/F Offsets โœ”๏ธ ||(and leave 'Unlock Adjustable Voltage' OFF in the main window)||
    • 800 MHz: -120mV
    • 1700~5400 MHz: -140mV
    • 5700 MHz: -120mV
  • Turbo Groups:
    • Group 0 & Group 1 ratios: 56
    • Group 2~7 ratios: 52
    • You're free to try increasing them, but that usually causes instability for very little gain. You actually may instead want to decrease them to 54 or so.
  • Cache Ratio:
    • Min / Max = 8 / 50 (default)
    • Sleep Defaults: โœ”๏ธ Cache Ratio โœ”๏ธ Voltage (helps with system stability
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Basically just defaults

MSI Afterburner (GPU Settings)

  • Memory Clock +700 MHz (another person recommended it as safe and easy, increasing or decreasing will probs have little effect on performance)
  • Curve Editor: +210 to all points then cut off at 825mV โš ๏ธ
#

โš ๏ธ iirc this actually has crashed in some games, so using a lower oc like +195 would probably be recommended if you play a lot of games.

(Reminder: GPU clock only increases in multiples of 15. A setting like "+200" will internally be converted to +195)

naive cliff
#

Ahh, I understand

unkempt cedar
#

also i went through a little bit of trouble to set up the rivatuner display

#

in order to get GPU Voltage to show up in the OCD, you need to follow this guide:
https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/rog-gaming-notebooks/guide-to-enable-quot-voltage-control-quot-in-msi-afterburner/td-p/564419

naive cliff
#

Ahh, alrighty

#

Thx so much mate lookatthis

#

And sry for making you go through trouble to explain (I'm new to this stuff)

#

I'll try these settings if I get into a trouble with lenovo vantage oc

unkempt cedar
#

lenovo vantage oc/uv?

#

isn't it barely anything?

naive cliff
#

Well, I really don't know since I can't test it because my laptop is not with me. I'm in university rn xd

naive cliff
#

I was thinking of overclocking gpu with medium level
-gpu core +125 mhz
-gpu memory +250 mhz
-performance mode

Hmm it's been a whole year since I last used this benchmark post

maybe I should make a new one?

Turbo Groups:

  • Ratios capped to 52
    CPU Core:
  • -140.6mV
  • IccMax 240.0A (default)
    P Cache:
  • -140.6mV
  • IccMax 240.0A (to match the Core)
    E Cache:

  • Sleep Defaults: โœ… Cache Ratio, โœ… Voltage
-# Note I have memory ddr 2794 for some reason, and microcode patch 12E which comes with the 27W bios patch

Misc:

  • AVX Offset: don't bother messing with it, nobody else seems to โŒ
  • Ring Down Bin is good โœ…
  • Thermal Velocity Boost bad for stability โŒ
  • V-Max Stress is bad (shouldn't make a difference, but just in case) โŒ
  • Overclock: also leave off โŒ

this is because the Digifly BS2 Pro is absolutely goated

unkempt cedar
#

Core -135.7mV, 511.75A; P Cache (aka Ring) -125.0mV, 511.75A; System Agent -1.0mV, 511.75A; E Cache -70.3mV
Turbo Groups capped 52x
Per Core -> E Cores lowered from 41 to 39

#

PL4 set to 0, PL1 set to 140 (Clamp), PL2 set to 190, time limit 160 and sync mmio on

#

TVB and V-MAX off, Ring Down Bin on

#

now what do i want to experiment with to push more performance...

#

im going to start by seeing if lowering E Cores even more has any effect

#

(Also, I had PROCHOT on 98 C)

unkempt cedar
#

im going to increase the SA by -1mV, the Core by -1mV (-136), and the P Cache to -130.9

#

E cache ig ill leave at -70 just incase

#

DAMN

#

it got to pass 25 right at two seconds left but the outcome was only 32,223

#

next up increase CPU E cache to -75

#

ill do this next if im still not seeing any progress

unkempt cedar
#

32,140 points

#

TwT my small changes aint doing nothin

#

lets try the quick & dirty instead

unkempt cedar
unkempt cedar
#

unkempt cedar
#

32 256, 32 152....

unkempt cedar
#

Only 1859 single core pts

#

#

34 134

#

set pl4 to 9999 got 34074, 34061,

#

lowering E cores to 36 or 37 had a negative effect, no more 34k

#

back up to 38x and i got a 34,113, 34,128
