The power button lights up, but the fans and keyboard won't. The screen stays black as well. It's been like this for 2 weeks. Sometimes after I screw and unscrew the bottom, or after a few hours or 2 days, it'll come alive with the date and time messed up. I have done the power button drain, removed the battery and replugged, removed CMOS and replugged it as well, but it's dead still. The last update I remember I did was the Nvidia driver update, don't recall any window or BIOS updates. Any information or advice would be highly appreciated 😔

Does it get warm after a while when turned on? Perhaps something is shorting your motherboard
Board is probably dead. Had a similar issue with mine, had to go to lenovo for a mobo swap.
Have you tried talking to Lenovo for support? It may just be a short on the motherboard, if the CPU is shorted out, there unfortunately isn't any fix.
Are you going to respond to anyone?
I apologize, I haven't checked this in a while.
It doesn't get warm or anything when I try to start it.
I see, I had a friend say the same thing as well, because after the day I posted it, it took 3 days before it came alive again.
I have not because my warranty expired a year ago, and what would you suggest to do if the CPU is shorted out? Should I go to a licensed computer shop to fix it?
It came on again today and has not turned off, but everything on it has a massive delay on opening any applications .
If the error is similar to what mine was doing, leaving the power completely disconnected for awhile(hours sometimes) and powering it back up generally worked. But as you've described, the system clock is failing...same issue I had and could reproduce.
I would recommend reviewing any rights you have based on your location...consumer laws can occasionally help. If you have the option to re-up your warranty, you'll have to wait 30 days to file a claim...and you should wait longer even then.
Goodluck to you, but I'm quite certain a mobo swap(which includes cpu & gpu) is your only option.
At first, the power disconnection method worked for a while, but it seemed to have gotten worse unfortunately. And I'll look into consumer rights in my area, thank you!
Is the CPU soldered onto the motherboard?
If so, it can not be repaired as with modern day laptops, they normally are not replaceable.
You could speak with Lenovo, and they can take a look at it, but if that’s the problem, it can’t be fixed.
You would need a motherboard replacement.
Which only Lenovo can do.
This may need to be looked at by Lenovo, to further examine the device, and see if it can be fixed.
Or by a technician/professionel
Okay, then the CPU I don’t think is shorted, if the CPU was shorted, it more than likely wouldn’t have come on at all.
Maybe the fan/heatsink isn’t working, but it sounds like it can be a series of things. If the fan is acting up, then it could be causing the entire issue I believe.
Could the heat sink be the problem? Or the CPU?
@hollow pivot I hope my thoughts helped you, I am going to look up this problem, see if I can get anything on forums or anywhere.
Doubht it heatsink
Is it still turning on?
Check core tempteratue and CPU core clocks in hwinfo
Because I thought maybe if the heatsink isn’t working, the CPU is stopping the computer from overheating.
Should tell you if laptop thinks it's overheating or not
Yeah, and the CPU I don’t think is the issue. It probably wouldn’t have turned on at all if that was the case.
Irc CPUs start shutting down at 105c+ mark, they usually throttle down to minimum clocks way before that, and at that point even bad heatsink will suffice
Maybe the fans?
Like I said, open hwinfo and send screenshots
Could that be the issue?
Are they not spinning under load?
That idk, I’m trying to help @hollow pivot
Oh
Yeah
Could it be a chip stopping the fans from working?
Or a short? Because that’s what I think it could be.
Even if they don't, heatsink alone should be keeping stable CPU running at 300mhz
There are multiple temperature sensors, one for each core and some other components of the CPU, the motherboard also has its own sensor which can override CPUs one using BDPROCHOT
Probably a short
Wait so let’s think. Power button lites up, but display and keyboard don’t, nor do the fans.
I shorted my motherboard when reapplying liquid metal a few years back, the lights would turn on, CPU would produce heats but that's it
Until I reopened it and removes spilled lm
But I was lucky back then because short didn't fry anything
Wait. Lemme think.
Try hooking the laptop up to a monitor, if you get an image, then it’s the display acting up.
If that acts up, then it’s most definitely a short coming from a chip or capacitor I’d say
He mentioned that the time is messed up after he was leaving it for a few days, motherboards clock is responsible for keeping track time when powered off, meaning motherboard is not powered too when this happens
Wait, could the motherboard clocks stop it from turning on? Maybe the motherboard wrote when it was turned off/put into sleep wrong and that stops it?
Could that be the issue?
Or that chip is shorted and stopping it from coming on completely?
No the clock is always ticking at constant rate, it's either powered by CMOS, battery or outlet. Irc Windows will write down shutdown time when it's not closed suddenly but that's unrelated
Yeah, something is likely shorted
Yeah, lemme do a bit more research, see what controls the fans, keyboard and display.
Which Lenovo would have to fix
Not something we can fix
The board is toast friends. The RTC component was probably my root cause for my failure. But it's honestly tough to say. Lenovo isn't going to admit to faulty design. Do enough research and you'll find this is not an uncommon fault in this gen of laptop.
Oh well, rips to the board ig. Could replace it I suppose tho.
