Model:
Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 (Intel + NVIDIA)

Describe the issue:
After almost each boot BIOS is going through self healing procedure

What have you tried already?:

  1. Checked C:\Windows\Firmware - there was a file there which was removed
  2. Manually updated BIOS from M2CN32 to M2CN34
  3. Checked UEFI partition - there was a backup bin file which was removed
  4. Under Firmware in Device Manager there is a "Lenovo PD 0.6 Firmware" device which is what it seems to be a partial BIOS binary that should be updated
  5. Uninstalled device, removed the driver with Driver Store Explorer - boot loop goes away
  6. After some time Windows Update re-downloads that driver and problem re-appears

When did it start producing the issue:
After doing some research, it seems that it started after WU downloaded above mentioned "firmware device" was downloaded from WU for the first time.

Did you install new drivers or software?:
No, except for stuff that comes from WU. It is unclear why was there a file in C:\Windows\firmware because there were no WU updates for BIOS. The "firmware device" mentioned before keeps the bin sideload in driver store.

Side notes:
Making this post for a non-technical friend. More advanced stuff that includes force flashing clean BIOS image is not an option. I am trying to see if others encountered same issue and if there a solution to this problem that is suitable for an average Joe.
