Legion 7i-16IAX7 Frames drop to 30fps after a few minutes after loading a game

Model: Legion 7i gen 7, i9-12900HX, rtx 3080ti
Tried: Updating all drivers and bios, power cycle and drain, EC reset
Start of Issue: 4 days ago.

There was an Nvidea graphics driver update a few days ago. I started noticing lag in games which I never have before (GTA 5 and Elden ring). I tried reverting back to the old drivers but the problem still persisted. I made sure everything was updated like windows, bios, intel and nvidea drivers etc but still the same probelm.

Was worried it might be thermal issues, but i checked with Core temp for CPU temps and the avg was between 80 to 90 Celsius. GPU temp was around 87 degrees as well. I did a benchmark test in firestrike and timespy and found that the scores were lower than when I first got the laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

uninstalled it using device manager, then went tho the nvidea website to get the old version back

so you basicly have a couple options

first, try downgrading to your previous driver using this guide

second, clean both the fans and vents like this: #chat message

if that doesnt work, check your warrenty status and see if you can get a heatsink replacement

if you dont have warrenty anymore, order ptm7950 and do it yourself

or buy more warrenty (check the terms if its available right after purchase)

your CPU is meant to stay at max temp under heavy load to try getting the best perf

the avgs are low cuz its throttling so hard its running at 60W of power, thats a JOKE for a 3080Ti

no i havent, but i did send it to lenovo because the fan broke under warrenty. I assumed that they would have cleaned it

they must've removed your PTM 7950

fans are usually coming with heatsinks
they must've removed PTM and slapped some mx-4

yeah assuming they arent braindead, they didnt remove the ptm since it was on the new heatsink

yes you will get the right heatsink but wrong/bad paste

simple fix repaste with PTM 7950
