Model: Legion T5 26ARA8 - Type 90UX

Describe the issue: Cannot even reach POST when any RAM is in either mobo DIMM slot 1 or 3.

What have you tried already?: PC came with 2x8gb ram in DIMM slots 2 & 4. Ordered the same 2x8gb ram to add to DIMM1/3. Placed new RAM in DIMM1/3, PC would not post. Triple short beep after 1 minute. (this is how I discovered this issue)
To rule out the new RAM as a problem, I tried both sticks of the original ram in DIMMs 1/3, triple beep immediately on power up. Then tried every combination of 1 stick in each slot, swapped, etc,... PC will not post if any ram at all is in DIMMs 1 or 3.
Triple short beep immediately if any RAM is in DIMMs 1/3 while 2/4 are empty. Triple short beep delayed one minute if any ram is in both 1/3 and 2/4 simultaneously.
Tried CMOS reset both via battery removal and jumper. Still will not post with any ram in DIMMs 1 or 3. Beeps follow same pattern as before. Wondering if the mobo DIMM slots 1/3 could possibly be locked from access or are simply defective?

When did it start producing the issue: PC is 1 month old. Issue may have been present all along if DIMMS 1 and 3 are faulty, but only discovered when I attempted to use PC with RAM in DIMM 1 or 3 on 8/21.

Did you install new drivers or software?: PC already up to date with drivers and relevant Windows and Lenovo software.

Can you provide images/videos to show us the issue: If requested, yes.

try to slot it in but leave it there for a long while

#

7000 series has some trouble with long post time with difficult ram config

I heard that somewhere and left it for 10 minutes, but still nothing. I figured the 1 minute delay before memory error (triple beep) was the PC telling me it wasn't going to go any further. Is there a chance that it beeps and I leave it alone and eventually it resolves the RAM config?

Also try to get the latest bios for this case. Recent AGESA has improvements for ram compatibility.

#

Also I hope you don't have EXPO on?

#

Most AM5 system only boot with 4 dimms at 4800mhz.

BIOS - SMBIOSBIOSVersion
O5SKT2CA

#

EXPO is some sort of overclocking feature? I don't have that enabled

#

I will place all 4 sticks back in, reboot, and leave it for about an hour

#

that should be long enough, right?

thanks for the info. I'll let you know what happens

quaint storm
#

I let it sit for an hour. Unfortunately, no luck

Try to get newer bios if possible

hey, dont know if this has been solved or not. try wiggling/pressing down the CPU cooler with decent pressure. due to the weight it can shift in shipping and cause the CPU to have weird contact with the socket. it's happened with AMD AM4 before though never heard with AM5. still worth a shot.

If you suspect if it was due to socket contact, better to unmount the cooler and reseat the cpu.

regal forge
#

not too hard

unseating the CPU would require a repaste. it's better yes, but you'll need more paste

upper oasis
#

Paste is cheap, compare to Heatsink+ cpu+ mobo if something goes wrong.

regal forge
#

i'm not telling you to hit it with a hammer

#

just gently wiggle it

#

if that doesnt work then i'd try remounting anyway

I have 1 year of the premo legion service included with the PC purchase. Worried that it'll be voided if I go that far

My bios is compeltely up to date according to Lenovo's site and Vantage, but bios seems very barebone. Is there some sort of setting to unlock features? Someone recommended setting ram to 3600Mhz and retrying.

If it isnt there, it isnt there.

quaint storm
#

so is there any other way to adjust ram speed? I thought bios was the only option

quaint storm
#

oh, now i discovered a new problem. the pc will no longer post while upright. i have to lay it on its side

#

take off the cooler and the CPU, put them back in

#

you would also need a repaste

#

or it might also be a GPU or RAM problem now that i think about it

#

try taking the GPU and RAM out first

#

and then put them back in

#

might save you a repaste

#

if that doesnt work then it's most likely CPU mounting issue

Havent had much free time, so scheduled a lenovo tech to repair it. The tech came today and after talking to him, i didnt have much confidence that he’d do a good job. He proceeded to replace the mobo and reconnect everything (with a few extra screws left over?!)

#

Pc will not post at all now. He had to call his internal line to arrange for lenovo to send the prepaid box and label

#

New mobo might be a different model #. Really disappointing

#

Would prefer to just send the pc back and get a refund to build my own at this point

Lenovo was estimating 4 weeks to get the computer back if I were to take that route, so I called and asked for a senior technician home visit instead

#

hopefully they don't send the same guy
