Describe the issue:
Hello! I have a problem where my ping spikes intermittently for about 2-3 seconds every like 3-4 minutes or so. I noticed it while playing Rocket League.
I own a Lenovo Legion 5 Slim AMD Gen 8 (2023).

What have you tried already?:
Pretty much everything on the internet linked to a similar issue with Legion's laptops. Which is :

  • Turn off location
  • Try another wifi card (USB) to see if it was the built in wifi card, which is likely to make the issue from what I've read. But the issue still persist on that USB card
  • Ethernet cable get rides of the issue, so it's purely WIFI.
  • Get ride of Lenovo Vantage (which had WIFI boost and was also likely to cause that kind of issue from what I've read). I've downloaded Legion Toolkit instead.

When did it start producing the issue:
Pretty much when I bought my laptop, which I received last week. The issue isn't happening on other PCs in my house, so my problem isn't from my Internet provider (which provides 1000/50 Mbps connection)

**Did you install new drivers or software?:
Can you provide images/videos to show us the issue: **
Like I said previously, I downloaded Legion Toolkit to troubleshoot the issue because Lenovo Vantage was likely to do it. So the issue was happening before downloading Toolkit.
I've also downloaded every drivers from the auto thing on Lenovo website which check if every drivers are up to date.

Is network boost off in vantage?

Vantage is just completely uninstalled now

Then it sounds like the wifi ap at your place is the problem?

Well, the problem doesn't happen on my other PC with Wifi. I also tried the same USB Wifi stick on both the laptop and PC, and only the laptop was doing it.

#

Very odd for sure. Only thing that could be possible is something downloaded on Windows which is making that buffer.

Hey man,

I think I found the fix lol. I think its the thing that make you PC scan wifi hotspots near you which scan every couple of minutes that makes the issue. To solve the problem, I need to write down this in Powershell to disable the feature :

netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=no interface="Wi-Fi"

Just not super convenient that I need to type the following command (which will re-enable the feature) to search new WIFI spots everytime I'm moving with my laptop and need to search a new WIFI spot.

netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=yes interface="Wi-Fi"

I wonder if it's a problem only for my Mediatek card and it would be fixed by swapping to the AX210 card I bought earlier.

# visual condor That's not really a fix....

Well, it shows where the problem come from. It's the action of looking for new spots. The fix would be to disable it, or use kind of hardware that doesn't get influced by it.

Imo you should still get ax210

Do you think AX card might fix this issue without disabling the feature with the command? And also, set aside this problem, how AX210 is better than my orignal card, will it be able to have a better range for wifi spots or it's just about stability?

But some said it improve reception for them

Yeah ok! Another solution could also be to hope for an update that would fix the issue in near futur. But since I've read on Reddit some people fixed their problem with this method 8 years ago, it could take a long time. 😅
