Model: Lenovo Legion 7 16IAX7

  • Intel i7-12800HX
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti
  • 16 GB RAM

Preface: Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm relatively new to PC gaming so I'm not too knowledgeable on all things PC-related. I've had small issues in the past but nothing I couldn't handle without a little googling.

Issue: When running MSI Afterburner I started noticing that I was reaching quite high temperatures when playing games on my laptop. It wouldn't even need to be a demanding game for my CPU & GPU to reach upwards of 80-85 degrees Celsius and even slightly higher than that, whereas watching other people they don't really exceed these temperatures. Slightly concerned because I'd like to enjoy playing games without the fear that my laptop is going to melt. I've looked around and seen others claim that these temperatures are fine for the model of CPU but in the interests of functionality over the long-run I personally don't think it's healthy for the laptop to be averaging these temperatures. I also figured that a laptop with respectable specifications would be able to handle running double/triple A rated games on High settings without being too strenuous, again I'm not too knowledgeable on PC stuff so I could be wrong on this. I do also appreciate that laptops are compact and have less room for cooling.

What have you tried already?:

  • Bought a cooling pad to elevate the laptop and allow air intake.
  • Opened the laptop carefully and cleared any dust I could find.

When did it start producing the issue?:

  • Have only noticed it the past 3-4 weeks.

Did you install new drivers or software?:

  • Laptop is always up to date. I check regularly for Windows updates, Game Ready Drivers from GeForce Experience etc.

I've attached some images of running games on High settings. Apologies if they're blurry.

I should also add that I am absolutely open to undervolting however I would need some guidance on this.
Thanks.

If total power is close or over 200W, don't be surprise if the cpu reach 90-95C
