#Legion 7 Gen 6 Brightness Fix is No Longer Working

About 8 months ago, I first encountered the standard Gen 6 brightness curve issue. I eventually found the registry key here in #1020285176531669012, which resolved it. No issues up until last night, when the problem returned after an otherwise uneventful restart (as far as I can tell, it obviously wasn't!) to dust out the fans.

After a bit of hair pulling, I remembered the fix, used DDU to remove the driver, installed the latest driver, then applied the registry key again. This worked! Fantastic! Then, about 12 hours later, when I booted up again, the problem had returned and repeating these steps no longer resolves it.

I have the Nvidia 3070 GPU and Ryzen 7 processer Gen 6 model and am running Windows 10.

I appreciate any suggestions you guys have, and am happy to provide more info where needed. Thanks!

Um, yes, sorry. 7 rather than 9, then. My mistake. Editing...

Driver version is: 536.40

511.23?

Okay! Some interesting results!

Steps taken:
DDU the current driver (problem goes away here, so confirmed driver issue!)
Installed driver version 531.68
The problem returns!
Apply registry keys fix and restart, no joy
DDU again, then rollback to 511.23, the driver version I installed when this happened the first time
The problem returns!
Apply registry keys fix and restart, still no joy?!

I'm not getting any access denied errors or anything applying the registry fix, but perhaps I'm doing some part of that process incorrectly? Or, I need to not let Nvidia install a certain component? (I get to watch the problem return near the end of the Nvidia installs...)

It also makes no sense because 511.23 has the brightness applied correctly in it

Yes, and I get this confirmation dialog afterwards

Did you have hdr on or something before and you’re just misremembering how bright the display is supposed to be?

unreal lance

HDR is off, my wife suggested that, too. And no, I can watch the display drop in brightness considerably during this process between the DDU step and the driver reinstall.

yep! So, software problem somewhere... The brightness it is at there with no driver is the level I'm used to/expecting.

Are you also installing Lenovo monitor driver after graphics driver install?

unreal lance

Hmmm, no, I wasn't... Good thought.

Yes. Just spammed the Fn key + for a bit to be sure, though!

Hmmm! Twist! I'm trying to run the DDU -> 511 steps again, and both of those programs are causing the computer to restart roughly 30% into the process and aren't finishing their work. Feels like a separate, but connected problem. Going to see if I have a good system restore point...
