Model: LENOVO_MT_82RB_BU_idea_FM_Legion 5 15IAH7H
BIOS version/date: LENOVO J2CN45WW, 26/08/2022
Describe the issue: Performance mode GPU is getting way hotter and FPS doesn't look like it improves like it did before. It might even be lower on performance mode compared to balance mode.

Temps in Balance mode range from 74 to 78

Temps in Performance made range from 80 to 82

What have you tried already?: Tried reinstalling LLT and power plans to see if it resolves but did not. Also tried EC reset. No luck.
When did it start producing the issue: A couple of weeks ago
Did you install new drivers or software?: No
Can you provide images/videos to show us the issue: Yes
#

I'm uploading the video

#

In the video i'm playing in balanced mode for some time. The moment you see 80C hit, that will be performance mode

#

And at some point i go back into balanced mode

mint sail
#

Try to clean the heatsink with compressed air.

#

Pop the bottom panel, hold the fan from spinning and blast compressed air from the exhaust inward

charred ridge
#

I don't have compressed air and idk i'm scared i'l break the bottom panel or something

#

I'l ask my school their laptop service if they are able to do it

#

It’s really not hard to do yourself.

#

Is there not adhesive in it etc?

#

Or is it really just screws

#

No. No adhesive.

#

Screws and clips. There are guides everywhere on how to do it. You just need a pry tool

#

Really, first, just shine a light into the fans and then look into the exhaust vents to see if they are dirty.

charred ridge
#

The laptop is fairly new so i wouldn't think they are

#

Cannot really tell from the bottom panel

#

Nothing looks dirty

#

Yeah no I think they are as good as new

charred ridge
#

The laptop is sitting flat on a soft keyboard+mousepad tho

#

Idk if that's the problem

#

Pry tools are cheap. Couple dollars.

#

Yes that’s a problem

#

You need to lift the back

#

That will give you an easy 5C reduction.

#

I'l test it out later.
I know that lifting it easily gives that reduction like you say but it does mean fans are more noticable

#

If i put it straight on my wooden desk, would that be better?

#

Maybe some. Not much. Your fans should spin less if your temps go down though.

Idk. Try it out and do what works for you. You’re not at thermal throttle yet. You’re just on the warmer side.

charred ridge
#

Exactly on the warmer side and maybe the paste degrades idk

#

I've only had it since somewhere in november or so, so i doubt

#

I always keep it in my backpack so it doesn't catch dust

#

what's ur ambient?
mine on 24°C ambient got 72°C on GPU (Balans + AI)
and getting over 220fps constant at low settings 1440p (texture and chara quality on highest) in OW

charred ridge
#

24C, i edited haha

tawny palm
#

only cooldown 2C mostly

charred ridge
#

😄

#

It's something

#

If you turn off the cooler

#

Do you get 74?

tawny palm
#

never tried that but. I play FH5 in school the GPU hit 87°C (thermal limit) 28°C ambient temp

#

let me check without cooler

charred ridge
#

I don't think you have AI working because that should bring u way higher than 72C

tawny palm
#

without AI it never hit above 180fps

charred ridge
#

AI just puts it in performance mode really

tawny palm
#

just slightly lower fan speed from I know
thats how my laptop behave

#

thats why I never used Performance mode

charred ridge
#

76C and up

#

But higher fps = more heat iirc

tawny palm
#

yeah its only goes 74 with coolingpad off. sit on desk lifter with a eraser
now ambient is 22°C without AC. tropical country (Indo)

#

how long you've been in that match?

charred ridge
#

If i lift the laptop up, it's about 68C-74C i think

#

on balance

#

Actually no it's 68-70C lol

#

I'l put it in performance mode in a second just to see the difference

charred ridge
#

Well i do get 250 fps on balanced right now

#

With your settings - AI

tawny palm
#

yeah thats should be normal

charred ridge
#

74C on performance mode lifted

#

Max 74C

charred ridge
tawny palm
#

TechTyrial have mentioned it on his video.
thats before I bought this laptop

charred ridge
#

Mentioned what exactly?

tawny palm
#

Lift your laptop for slight better performance and not heating up as much.
thats the total point of the video

charred ridge
#

Oh that

#

I use my wallet to lift it up lol

tawny palm
#

its fine tho

#

atleast it doesn't vacuum the desk

charred ridge
#

Well yeah haha

#

But last time I also lift up my laptop with my wallet

#

But maybe i put the wallet to much under making it block a little bit of the bottom vents

#

And that might bounce back hot hair? I don't know

#

But the soft mousepad probably will take in the heat and shoot it back or something

tawny palm
#

yeah, well you know laptop doesn't actually suck fresh air

#

Unless you had those laptop cooler like IET GT300/500?

#

those have pads so fresh air always come in

#

I'll try to DIY my self

#

that foam could work

charred ridge
#

I think it also depends if its a little bit dirty or not

tawny palm
#

it is but, if your laptop is 3 months old. it's not that dirty

#

idk how old your laptop is

charred ridge
#

Mine is about 7-8 months old

#

Also that mousepad is way older

#

Perhaps a year or 2

tawny palm
#

oh yeah, you can try and clean

charred ridge
#

I tried that but no difference

tawny palm
#

I already cleaned when it hit 2 months old

charred ridge
#

Your laptop?

tawny palm
#

yeah

charred ridge
#

Ah yeah no haven't done that

#

I can't see any dust accumulation within the laptop so

tawny palm
#

it isn't that bad. unless you're smoking

charred ridge
#

I don't smoke no

tawny palm
#

or the place where you live isn't that clean or near roads

charred ridge
#

Pretty clean

#

I'm from Belgium

tawny palm
#

ah Belgium is very clean

#

I live in indonesia kekw

charred ridge
#

Oh why did you install a new SSD?

charred ridge
tawny palm
#

dirty af

#

problem is trucks are everywhere

charred ridge
#

Yeah

tawny palm
#

also used the laptop frequently on cafe

charred ridge
#

How old was yours again?

tawny palm
#

3 months

#

19 february 2023 purchased

charred ridge
#

That's pretty new aye

#

But i don't understand why I have more fps than you using the same settings

#

Are you sure you are using the proper power plans?

tawny palm
#

yeah balanced + AI

charred ridge
#

Weird

#

I get more fps with Balanced without AI compared to you

#

You got RTX3060 with I7-12700H Right?

tawny palm
#

these are video proof
I used High texture and Ultra Chara Quality

charred ridge
#

You are getting way more fps than you said bro haha

tawny palm
#

it used to getting around 240 250ish

#

I could say both our device are in par and same performance tbh

charred ridge
#

Well yeah

#

Have you benchmarked yours with cinebench yet?

tawny palm
#

yeah its in the bench

#

you can find the thread

#

in this server

#

it used to have 18K R23 multicore

#

well idk how it only had 16K now

charred ridge
#

That's weird

#

I still have 17600

#

Your timespy is also rather low

tawny palm
#

I never 3D mark it when I got it new
Only knew the timespy score now risitascry

#

I only did R23 backthen

charred ridge
#

What is your gpu idle temp?

tawny palm
#

It used to be 38-44 ish

#

wait I'll check

charred ridge
#

Mine right now is 35

tawny palm
charred ridge
#

Is that lifted?

tawny palm
#

lifted dGPU mode

charred ridge
#

What about your idle cpu temp

#

Mine 33C

tawny palm
#

same as GPU

#

37 38 42 back to 38 and 37

charred ridge
#

Cool cool

#

Normal with your ambient temps

tawny palm
#

I wish going to 4 season country risitas

#

experience the power of winter

charred ridge
#

Bro if i put AC on cold

#

Temps will go down even more

tawny palm
#

nah ur freezing man

charred ridge
#

Lol ofc

charred ridge
#

You look like a good player

tawny palm
