#VBIOS 140w flash from Knowledge base not working?
134 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
The upgrade may not work for some people. Just use nvflash method.
Also, get some #955921840826621972
#955921840826621972? Fairly new to discord, used it to play Destiny 2 a few years ago lol
About to try the NVflash method. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't being stupid. Thank you again kind sir!
Click the link and use the drop downs.
Done, I think?
Yes
Ahhh... oops. I'll try that, do I still need to do the protect off thing? is doesn't state that in the KB, but everything else I've seen suggests it
You shouldn’t need too. Just follow the #1020285176531669012 guide
Here goes lol
Safe to carry on yeah?
apologies for the hand holding, just want to be sure on my first flash lol
Ya
Gunna reboot. fingers cross lol
Ok, so Nvid system info says it should have 140w, quick bench still sees it tap out at 125/130
I do notice that even the stock VBIOS doesn't like going to 130w on the dot
I changed the settings in nvid control panel to prefer maximum performance and it then tapped out at 115w
You have to follow #1020285176531669012 to utilize 140
Have to run custom mode.
How do I go about that or learning that? It does say it but doesn't say how?

Follow that or if you don’t want to disable dynamic boost, set your own cTGP and dynamic boost values.
Will that Legion tool kit work on a gen 6?
Yep
That will allow for the custom mode and I can set the peak wattage to 140?
just making sure I understand.
thank you for your patience
Yes. If you don’t want LLT (which you should because in general it’s much better than vantage) there are wmi commands you can set to do the same thing, but they do not persist through reboots. You’d have to setup .bat files and have them run through task scheduler or something or manually do the commands every time you want custom mode.
Yes
Honestly this all isnt worth the hassle
LLT can be set up like vantage and such then instead of the CMD every reboot?
Yes.
You can have it run custom every time you boot if you want. It also perseveres your custom settings. You can even make multiple custom profiles.
It may not be, but I overhauled thermals and I'm trying to learn how to do these things. performance may only be 5/10% in total, but its the experience for me
Next stop LLT then
First though.... I'm going to make some dinner haha or I'll forget to eat
5 to 10%? no. i tested mine, its barely even 5%
Just telling him its not worth
maybe ueh
I found one AW VBIOS 130w to be useful
Im able to do 260/270 core with it
and 5c avg temp reduction
If the LLT allows it to actually go to 140w instead of floating around 125w, with MSI afterburner it will make around 5% gain nicely I would imagine. I've redone everything with PP10 and conductonaut too so temps are lower. I should be able to push to around 2100mhz comfortably. I am documenting it as I go. Just stock with MSI AB UV/OC I went from 92fps to 97 on Cyberpunk. Being able to push it a little further would good. I plan on swapping out the RAM for the CL20 stuff unless anyone is selling a Thaiphoon burner tuned kit.
On the whole, it's a project, I wanted to brush up on the software tuning side, I've overhauled several machines internally. It's just fun for me.
Is it the bottom one I'm tweaking?
Well, followed the guide, made the adjustments, Heaven bench will see about 135w if I use the stock profile on Afterburner, Yet if I tune the voltage and frequency it floats around 125w again then in the last 3rd of the bench it drops the custom profile and crashes the laptop
So yeah it’s that one. Wanna show you custom settings now? Yes in afterburner depending on your undervolt, you may not reach max power.
This is pretty underwhelming. It doesn't actually get to 140w, it will top out at 135w. I think I'm sort of at the limit of what the chip is comfortable doing too. tested it in Cyberpunk at .958mv at 2100mhz and it crashed
It also won't let the CPU boost normally either
limits it to 4ghz
Do a bench with no undervolt. Maybe an overclock, it should hit 140
All core boost for 5800h is 4Ghz.
in the game bench it pings cores at 4.4ghz and it was having non of it
Bench with no UV bounces on the limiter and is pretty much stock results
What are your exact custom settings?
Your power limits for cpu are kinda low. Could be why you’re not seeing as much boost
so I dropped it to make sure there was plenty for the GPU
With the cTGP at 60, you’ve bypasses dynamic boost. Cpu can pull as much as it wants without taking from GPU.
What limiter? Power?
And yeah kinda what falible was getting it. You don’t necessarily get much from it, but you said you wanted to go through the motions lol
What’s LIM2 though? Should be either voltage, power, or thermal. It should say one of those 3 things.
Indeed, I did. I expected it to be a little more straight forward. Most VBIOS flashes you see on Max Q cards to standard get pretty nice results
It's power
does the same as stock too, sits at 125w showing lim2
Yes Lenovo has stuff locked up through the EC, that’s why it’s a bit convoluted.
the undervolt got me decent gains
That’s odd. You can try pushing cTGP higher. Might make a difference, probably not though.
Oh wait wait wait
Shame.
My ASUS A15 says 140w on the GPU and goes to 140W even stretches to 145w sometimes
This is gen 6?
I'm grateful though
Falible has same machine. I think he hit 140 consistently
been a massive help even if I do just reflash the OG bios and call it a day lol
How strange?
You’ll have normal power limits
If it was using 140w it would probably be better than it is. since it normally sat on 125w
Ya should be a small boost. Couple fps. I got a small boost on my 3070 going from 140 to 150
Ahhh well, I spose it better saved for changing Max q to normal type wattages rather than small gains on heavily locked platforms.
I reverted all the VBIOS and such back to stock, wanted it to be 100% back as was since the experiment was a fail. On the plus side, with the overhauled thermals she is lovely and cool now. I don't suppose you know anyone with a Thaiphooned DDR4 kit for sale do you ? or some soul willing to tune a kit?
Also, thank you again for your patience and advice.
Man, unless you benchmark for life, don’t bother
Minimal gain for a lot of risk
Ya no I don’t. Also, yeah kinda minimal gains with that too. Just having a good jedec 2rx8 kit is good enough.
Best JEDEC kit is still the Fury Impact CL20's right? Though they discontinued the 2R kits, most vendors only do 1R now because of DDR5
I personally would prefer dual rank over cl20
Who does 2R these days? I did have a 2R CL20 kit but it died and Kingston only do the 1R kits now.
#1020285176531669012
I know for a fact that Kingston doesn't do the 2R kits anymore thats why I'm asking. I don't know if it's worth trying to get a random 2R kit if I can get one, or going for the CL20. I am stuck with what comes out of the box.
Did you read?
Kingston Value?
Is it still actually 2R though. It still says Fury impact are 2R and I spoke to Kingston themselves and they said they have stopped doing 2R DDR4. So that list isn't properly helpful.
So the question is, is it worth trying to get a 2R kit over a guaranteed CL20?
Yes
How much real world difference does it make? 2R vs CL20?
Not much if at all. Even compare to 1Rx16 ram

Unless you are talking about micro stutter and stuff
So really I'm going to be fine with the new gen of Fury impact CL20's then
WIsh they still did the 2R version of that kit
I did do some hunting but I couldn't find any new old stock
If you want 2R so much just get the Kingston Value kit
I meant the Fury Kit, it was 2R CL20. it was the best JEDEC kit on the market. I;m on Kingstons site atm, it offers 8gbit and 16gbit density, which would be the better option? been a while since I did all my reading on DDR4
You can get a Kingston Value ddr4 sodimm on amazon.
That wasn't the question I asked. I know where to get all those kits, I'd sooner get the CL20 kit which is fury. The picture attached to the 16gbit RAM kit is of the 2R version.
I mean sure
Ahhh, upon more looking the 16gb x 2 is 16gbit, so its the 1R kit matterless the 32gb single stick is 2R because of the amount on the stick
That also works
most if not all 64gb kit is 2Rx8 by design
Alas I don't need that much for this machine so I'd be stuck with the 1R 16gbit 2 x 16gb sticks. Seems they have cheapened the production of DDR4 because DDR5 is better and relevant.
not really "cheapen"
No reason to produce so many different die variant for products with essentially same performance.
Though they touted heavily that 2R 8gbit kits were faster than the 1R 16gbit kits
not just that
like if you compare, the 1Rx8 32gb kit and 2Rx8 32gb kit performs really close
and now you can share the die with the 64gb kit
