Hello people!
Started receiving BSODs some months ago usually when gaming, was just a couple very rarely didn't pay too much attention.
Last month or so started receiving them every few days or so and even while just watching videos or surfing net. Some weeks there's none. And lately had even few a day, but not every day. I use the laptop daily for most of the day, so can tell it's increased... And it's literally even when I'm doing work, reading forums, watching youtube, etc...
So done a clean win reinstall on Wednesday in hopes that it would help, yesterday it worked fine, today I get up, turn my laptop on and got 2 BSODS it the 1st half an hour.
I'm on windows 11.
The main BSOD is "irql_not_less_or_equal" and then occasionally there was another one few times, but can't recall it for the life of me.
Today the two I got was "irql_not_less_or_equal" and "Kernel_Security_Check_Failure" (I think this is a first time I got this one). Was just reading the news when got the 1st one and was running cmd commands like perfmon /rel and sfc /scannow and reading troubleshooting when I got the 2nd one...

Would really appreciate if somebody could advice me what scans could I run or what program should I install to check for the crash info on the next BSOD.
I haven't really had issues before with bsods, so just learning now what can be done with them...
Any and all help would be much much appreciated ๐Ÿ™

EDIT: Just got a 3rd one today again "irql_not_less_or_equal"

#

have you done any undervolting or overvolting?

#

it can be caused by (mainly) cache instability too

grizzled hedge
lean gust
#

then yeah

#

try running memtest86

grizzled hedge
#

on it

lean gust
#

since you got both an irql error and a kernel checksum fail error

#

i'm assuming your memory has something wrong with it

#

and it installed windows badly

grizzled hedge
lean gust
#

the kernel_security_check_failure wasn't

grizzled hedge
#

nope that one not

lean gust
#

at least that's what you're saying

#

yeah

#

hence why i think it might have copied over a corrupted version from memory

#

that's JUST my guess though

#

it's only a guess

#

so take it with a grain of salt

grizzled hedge
#

There was another one, but I can't remember, but I know when I googled IRQL I saw smb also post the other one too that he got together

#

also was memory related guess

#

@lean gust Just got a 4th BSOD of the day whilst watching a vid on memtest86 and it's a new one...! "driver_overran_stack_buffer"

lean gust
#

now it's definitely feeling like a case of bad memory

grizzled hedge
#

Aight, I need to take a lil break, go have smth to eat and then I will disassemble my main laptop monitor, so I could enter bios on a working screen and I will run memtest86.
So @lean gust you kinda think it's memory issue, would you be able to take a guess on what can be done with it? Is it a serious memory issue or is it easily fixable? Just need to wrap my head around this, because I need to do work on this laptop too :/

lean gust
#

if it's memory you'd probably need new ram

#

just run memtest86 and see what it says

#

try not using the laptop

#

too much i mean

#

just download memtest86 and watch how to do it on your phone or something

grizzled hedge
#

Bit weird, worked fine for 2 years with no issues... But rather it be ram stick swap then something more serious :/ But yeah, will run the test in a bit. I really appreciate your help ๐Ÿ™

lean gust
#

no problem

grizzled hedge
lean gust
#

just a disclaimer though, i'm only guessing it's a memory problem for now

#

i can't be sure

grizzled hedge
#

I understand that, but that helps me to move forward, I've never dealt with bsods tbh, and there's so much various different guessing on the net too. At the very least you're doing me a big favor by cutting down time by letting me know what programs to use to test and what to do next. risitasnervous

RUN MEMTEST86

No โ€œBUTSโ€ฆ.โ€

grizzled hedge

Yes yes, no butts ๐Ÿซก

Same Problem here.
Your cpu must be AMD. right?
BSODs caused by ntoskrnl.exe. right ? (you can check it with bluescreen view)
you'll get no error after check memtest86.

lean gust
#

you can't just say that lmfao

#

no harm in troubleshooting

grizzled hedge
#

No no, I'll troubleshoot the shit out of this machine, even with no errors

#

CPU is amd, u r right.

#

I get BSODs for about 3 months and all of them are caused by ntoskrnl.exe

grizzled hedge
#

I just need to do some work, so running to the office b4 I can continue troubleshooting.

grizzled hedge

lean gust
#

that's also an entirely different error code

#

kmode_exception_not_handled is not usually caused by hardware

#

irql_not_less_or_equal is very often hardware based

#

be it an unstable overclock/undervolt

#

or unstable cache

#

or unstable memory

wintry glade
#

I get random errors every time. most of the time its irql_not_less_or_equal.

lean gust
#

it is

grizzled hedge

#

I checked whole internet. most of the people said its motherboard problem. I didn't repair it.

#

sry for bad eng

rocky hedge
lean gust
#

yes but often somehow hardware based

#

more often than not from what i've seen

#

its better to mention this. I installed most of the NVidia drivers. (511.79-527.56...). after installing these drivers I got BSODs. I installed Nvidia driver from legion site recently(too old driver), I didn't get any BSODs these days but I'm not sure about next days. just for mentioning

Tried to read most of the comments but i haven't noticed any mentioning BIOS update or roll back. I had some issues with the same BSOD and the probleme was a faulty BIOS release. I used to only get them when on battery. Did a BIOS roll back, then waited for a new version which fixed it.

Sitting here doing a memtest without taking my eyes off the screen in case something happens, got a bit tired after half an hour, thought I'd put a phone on to record the screen, even phone got tired letting me know that it's getting hot. Thought oh damn, this is taking a while, googled how long a memtest takes, now I think mine is quite quick at 42min mark 2/4 pass and 58% in ๐Ÿ˜…

# grizzled hedge I'm not sure man, I'm thinking maybe previous win and the new install right now ...

The BIOS is a piece of firmware that sits on a standalone chip and helps the machine turn on, do some checks and load the OS. Installing new OS doesn't change the BIOS. You can update it via the Vantage software or by downloading it directly from the Lenovo support site. If you're not familiar with how it works, maybe to a bit of reading on it. It's nothing too scary, but many people like to bring some mystique about it because few actually know exactly how it works (myself included). Try to update it or roll it back. To roll it back you need to enable installing an older version in your current BIOS settings. The one thing you need to keep in mind is to NOT turn off your machine or restart it or unplug it when doing a BIOS update. Doing that can brick your machine, but if you follow the basic instructions, all should be fine.

#

But still kinda makes me wonder what gives as the system was working fine for first 2 years.

grizzled hedge
#

Oookeyyy... 3h on pins and needles

#

Is there anything else I should try before leaving this?

#

Btw, might be a stupid guess, but do you guys recon there's any chance that the issue might have been caused by a faulty internal display?
I'm gonna leave it disconnected from now on, see how it goes.

lean gust
#

i'm honestly not sure now

#

if memtest passed that easily...

#

i'd just take it to repair at this point

grizzled hedge
#

And my bloody backup laptop is broken too incredibleno god damn. Just the bloody timing.

grizzled hedge
#

Also tbf I wonder what non warranty/private pc specialists could do ether in this case, I would have honestly thought that at least some of them who repair pc's daily professionally deffo would be sitting in discord groups like these. Plus wouldn't be surprised if it just stayed at the specialists for a week or two and got troubleshooted in the same/similar way and just given back told that there's nothing they can do for it and gotten charged for "check up fee" anywayincredibleno

Does that look like electrical damage? Short circuit/arching? Or is that just wear?

#

My old ones charger has a bit of blackness too, which made me think maybe it's just wear...
