#GPU bug?

Hey ever since I connected my Legion 5 to my 1080p TV, the laptop seems to think the TV is the internal display and reserves the 3070 for it, while only using integrated graphics for my laptop, even when the TV is unplugged. Now when I load up a game with 2560x1600 graphics, it retains the 1080 resolution causing the black bars on the top and bottom of the game.

I've tried replugging the HDMI into the TV and adjusting some settings that way, I've looked at the Windows control panel to see if there's a phantom monitor of sort connected (none). All drivers are up to date as well. I feel like it's a Nvidia Control Panel mixing up the display?

What mode are you in? Check Vantage

#

are you in Hybrid?

dusky zephyr
#

hmm how do i check if im in hybrid mode?

#

oh it is in hybrid mode

#

i know i can technically force it to use the 3070 for certain programs, but even when i do, games still start up with the black bars, which i assume means it's in 1920x1080 instead of 2560x1600

I am not sure I get what you mean, can you show the behaviour on video? Why are you forcing 1080p to show 1600p?

dusky zephyr
#

not sure how to record video just yet but lemme ss

cold cedar
#

you can record with phone and upload to youtube (unlisted) or google drive

dusky zephyr
#

like that

cold cedar
#

is that on TV or internal?

dusky zephyr
#

internal monitor

cold cedar
#

so why are you plugging in the TV?

#

you want to play on it or?

dusky zephyr
#

yeah initially i did, i didnt mind running it on 1080 cause the tv's bigger

cold cedar
#

You know you can Win+P and select Display 2 only?

dusky zephyr
#

yep

#

it's just strange cause before i plugged it into the tv, it would say "connected to 3070"

#

now even with the tv unplugged from my laptop, the internal display runs on integrated

#

i actually just tried use the uninstall tool and installed 511.79, still the same way

#

Gen 5 with 3070????

#

what CPU do you have

dusky zephyr
#

i7-12700h

dusky zephyr
#

when i google legion 5 pro, they usually come with a ryzen 5800 or 3060

#

for some reason this comes with a i7-12700h and 3070 lol

cold cedar
#

mate

#

you have Gen 7

#

not Gen 5

#

Gen 5 is 10750H
Gen 6 is 11800H
Gen 7 is 12xxxH

dusky zephyr
#

ah ok, i couldnt find it anywhere on canada computers

#

says interaction failed when i try to change it in roles :S

dusky zephyr
#

Haha, now i cant even open Elden Ring anymore

#

Try to reset the nvidia control panel

dusky zephyr
#

ive run the nvidia cleanup tool and reinstalled the gpu driver without geforce experience

serene oriole
#

though note Nvidia Control Panel is not Geforce Experience

dusky zephyr
#

yep

#

i guess a better question is, how do i make the laptop forget about the tv altogether?

#

i've looked in device manager, tried to uninstall and disable the TV while it's plugged in

#

see i've unplugged the HDMI and only the laptop monitor is on, it still says "monitors running on this GPU: LG 47D500", which leads me to believe it's still outputting my 1080p tv settings onto this 2560x1600 laptop :S

#

Why is it that you think the game is running at 1080p on the internal monitor?

serene oriole
#

Also Elden Ring only run at 16:9

It was just stretching to fill. Just because it has black bars doesn’t mean it’s 1080p

dusky zephyr
#

sorry i dont mean to be so annoying, it's just that the comp was running soo smoothly when i got it a week ago

dire torrent
dusky zephyr
#

yep

#

it even still says that after i restart

dire torrent
#

Could just be a reporting bug, AO bug. Does the display show up in windows settings or Nvidia control panel? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it.

dusky zephyr
#

that's the thing, it doesn't show up in either, which sounds fine

#

but now when i open elden ring, the resolution of everything gets wonky and i cant alt tab out anymore

dire torrent
#

Try dGPU mode

dusky zephyr
#

what i think was happening before was, the 3070 handled both the desktop stuff and the game, so the resolution stays constant

#

now that the desktop is on integrated and the game is on 3070, maybe it's struggling to use both?

#

and true, i will try that right now actually

#

hmm ok the laptop monitor connects to the 3070 now, and the resolution doesnt get fucked when i alt tab out of elden ring

#

do you know the lenovo vantage comes default on dGPU mode? or if adding a second monitor turns it to hybrid automatically?

#

honestly it doesn't matter, i've bugged you guys enough :p

#

might factory restore while i have nothing on the comp, just incase somehow some way the tv messed with some internal gpu setting, i have no idea @@

dire torrent
#

It probably comes with hybrid on. Plugging in a monitor does not effect the MUX switch

dusky zephyr
#

Ah ok. Gonna take a look at all the other resources on the server later and maybe hopefully i can be a little more knowledgeable. Thanks a lot guys

Not exactly, i factory restored it but i still have to manually switch to dgpu before running games
