#newest nvidia gpu driver not letting me change brightness

I updated it but the brightness won’t change. I had the same problem with 5.26 and I thought this would be the fix. I have a rtx 3060 gpu on a Lenovo legion 7 slim.

Does any have any advice on this? Do I need to update a different driver or something so that it’ll be compatible with the new nvidia gpu driver?

It’s a hassle not being able to change my brightness. And I’ve rolled back to the previous version for now.

i misread

did u DDU

hot granite

Try to DDU. It’s from a bad driver install.

deft urchin
#

What’s ddu??

#

Ah driver installer, is there an app for that? Or should I just uninstall it manually from my computer through device manager

deft urchin
#

I’ve tried the driver uninstall and then downloaded the driver again from Lenovo for my product.. then updated to the newest nvidia driver and still no bueno 🥲

Unfortunately no fix for this
but you may try turning on HDR and change the brightness

#

the only time i have been able to get brightness working is after ddu + installing nvidia drivers from lenovo

#

also adv Optimus in sdr mode is broken

@deft urchin check your display panel model in hwinfo.

deft urchin
#

Okay and then what should I do?

#

@plain river

plain river
#

Probably brightness calibration data of your panel is missing on latest driver.

deft urchin
#

do you mind helping me out and walking me through it?

#

@plain river i cant seem to find the make or model of it and not sure where to get the driver

Try the overwrite method:

  1. Download a driver that does not give this issue for you (let's say 512.36 that both windows and Lenovo provide by default).
  2. Install the driver and then download newest and install it on top, without clean install, without DDU.
#

I haven't seen your panel model so far so for me it's new.

deft urchin
#

so currently im using the previous one before 5.26

#

and i can change my brightness and everything

#

oh yeah im using 512.36, and everytime i update to 5.27 now, it just doesnt work

plain river
#

@deft urchin install the latest version with clean install.
open regedit and goto HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvlddmkm\State\DisplayDatabase
and send me a screenshot from this path.

Few hours ago laptop went to sleep and when I woke it up screen brightness was like 20% despite it being set at 70 in the settings and changing values didn't do anything so I had to restart the laptop.... It this issue exclusive to Lenovo Legion 5 laptops or what?

# cerulean marsh sounds like one-off bug. Your model should not have any brightness related probl...

Then my model does have problems with waking up from dim screen/sleep as during past 3 days I had 2 situations where laptop couldn't properly wake up after going dim/sleep. In the first case keyboard lighting turned back on but screen did not respond to any keys so I had press power button and shut it off manually. In the second case screen woke up but as I said the brightness was so low and I couldn't change that so had to restart the laptop.

Seems like recent windows update mess up with sleep mode.

Also new thread if you need help with this. This is unrelated to the original thread.

Just started having this brightness issue on the newest install for my GPU drivers. My panel in HWInfo is BOE0A1C and my GPU is a 3060. I tried the brightness calibration fix in the tech support, didn't work

I've done that before, no dice. Looking at the solution, I saw that the displays that the fix works for does not include my model, so that could be the issue

# heavy bluff Just started having this brightness issue on the newest install for my GPU drive...

That brightness calibration fix is working for 3070 models. Only we had that issue with the registry missing.
However, what you can do is using the overwrite method:

  1. Install a driver that is not cause this issue for you (let's say 511.23).
  2. Then on top of it install 522.25 afterwards.
!! WITHOUT ANY DDU OR UNINSTALLS BETWEEN and without ticking the "clean install" checkbox when you install the second driver!!

Using this method will make the brightness registry of the first driver (the one that works fine for you) be carried on to the new one and fixing your problem.

Just tried that solution, didn't work either. Just to make sure I did it right, you install a working driver (516.94 for me) and then use the custom install in Geforce Experience to install the latest driver, leaving the clean installation checkbox empty

proud dragon
#

no

#

What I wanted you to do is

#

Install a working driver (let's say 516.94) then after that install 522.25 or 526.86 or 527.56 (these are the best performing and most stable)

heavy bluff
#

Installed 516.94 then 527.56 without a clean install, brightness issue still exists. Will try the other 2 you said to try

heavy bluff
#

Well, looks like 522.25 worked and 526.88 didn't. Thanks for the help, I just hope that I can find a way to stay with the latest drivers in the future.

proud dragon
#

You don't need the latest driver. Hence why you see me having this name and #1044177430644019240 exists

#

All of the latest drivers are full of issues and their stability is a question mark

#

There's no benefit for you being on latest or on 522.25. Literally.

#

Other than maybe one game in 100 games that might ask you for latest driver instead of it

#

But most run without any problem

Coming back to this thread because I updated my drivers to 528.46 from 522.25 because I wanted to play BF2042. Did all the steps from entering safe mode > DDU > reinstall driver and still no luck with brightness change, it's stuck to 100% when using the discrete graphics. Any updates for this issue? 😭

sacred mesa

literally that's what fixed it for me

tender creek
sacred mesa

531.68 works perfectly for me

advanced optimus and all that too

tender creek
#

ahh so not stuck on maximum brightness anymore? okay i'll give it a go

just download driver and install
