Model: Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (16ARH7H)
Describe the issue: Black screen when i try to turn it on, the the led from the power button turns on but there is no output from the screen (keyboard is off but that's because i always have it off)
What have you tried already?: Tried many things that i saw online like holding the power button for 60 seconds, also win + ctrl + shift + b, and tried blindly going to the bios to reset it or switch the gpu modes (i had it on Switching mode when it was working) but nothing worked
When did it start producing the issue: laptop is 4 days old, everything was working perfectly till yesterday night i pulled it out from my backpack when i came home and the issue happened. But i did notice when it first happened the power button led went blue AKA in quiet mode (like i normaly have) but after turning it off and trying the various fixes it was always white
Did you install new drivers or software?: i didn't

when holding the power button for 60 secs did u unplug everything?
did the power button turn white?
Ye unplugged everything
Then i plugged the charger and turned it on and was still black, i tried it multiple times
Ye, after the first time that it was in blue, it was always white
did u do any updates"?
Now that i think off ye, there was that new windows 11 update, but i was using it after it and was working fine, it's when i came home few hours later that it was dead
This yesterday
did u do any bios updates?
uhoh

Ye i was thinking to try that yesterday
wait let some knowledgeable dude come here cuz u dont want it to get messy

I can add that when i turn it on the leds for the caps lock and num pad don't turn on at all if this gives any clues
uhoh
looks like u gotta do a CMOS reset

@lament python dont u think he gotta do a cmos reset
Are your fans doing anything when the power button light is on?
Do you hear anything from them
Nothing
having no output on external display sounds like a mobo/gpu being dead
same as it happened to me
in January
I had the very same problem just like you

fans off, power button lit and the charging lid from the back of the laptop
nothing else worked
I had to send it to warranty and they decided to change the motherboard(GPU being dead)
Do you remember what did the BIOS update say when you installed it?
can you tell me some numbers
53WW?
GKCN53WW, something like this?
Oof i don't remember
GKCN57WW
I don't think CMOS reset would help if fans are completely dead...
but can try since nothing else left to do
other than RMA
frick this shit
some guys did not have problems with it, as you can see
I personally got a black screen in cyberpunk as I was going through the settings
immediately downgraded to 49WW
JUCN51WW maybe this one i had, not sure, but lenovo shows this as last for 16ARH7H
Kinda weird my laptop died in the meantime i was coming back home, was working fine when i was at uni few hours before
No
did u drop ur bag or sm?
This was my issue
did u get it rma'ed?
No, was my first day at uni with it so i was careful lol
what did I say above
Yes, I did
They swapped the motherboard
took about 11 days
ohh
and mine wasn't due to some bios update
I was on 44WW until 2 days ago
for almost a year
so no "53WW" situation
@spice flicker do you have good Lenovo support in your country?
Sadly, very unfortunate case to see...after just 4 days
They will most likely replace the motherboard and send it back to you(if you don't have some policy to get a brand new laptop instead)
I'm from italy, there is no lenovo center near me to send it, only 3rd parties
uhoh
F
maybe return?

I'll just call them later and see what i can do i guess, thx for the support
and I think 1 year in US
I don't think anyone would have been able to help with your issue, unfortunately. There are two ways pretty much to deal with this:
- do an actual EC reset
- send it to warranty and (since it's very similar to what happened to me) your motherboard would most likely get changed
By actual EC reset, I meant:
To hold power button for 30 secs until the pc shuts down and also gives a sound while its off, dont release the key until that sound comes after its turned off
then remove back panel, remove battery and CMOS
Now Reconnect CMOS without battery and switch on the laptop with ac adaptor and run the laptop for 5 mins
then shut down the laptop and reconnect the battery
now switch on the laptop and check if your issue has been resolved
Can't try rn, but i know for sure it didn't do any sounds when holding the power button for 30 or 60s
That sound is not mandatory, as far as I'm aware. Not everyone hears it even when they tried to do it so.
Nice
I think this is the number
I do not understand what it says so
They also contact you mid-website but I do think it's a bot

Defo dead, tried connecting external mouse and keyboard and they don't turn on at all
Sorry to hear this, bud...Especially such a new one. I would have been legit getting PTSD after such short time :|
Mine at least died after 3 months
Nope, not at home for that, but it's probably pointless
Ye i do now
Tbh, I became extremely paranoid after mine died, refused to use AMD driver from main website, refusing to use Legion Fan Control, Legion Toolkit, etc
Took me few good months to actually realize none of these were at fault
and it was just a faulty unit
thanks ruin now im afraid
my ideapad mobo died
and now u said 3 months
and im scared
I did uninstall all the lenovo apps for the toolkit one on sunday
Nah, that's not a problem tbh
it was just me being paranoid after that shit happened
no not being sarcastic
these things have 0 effect
cuz my ideapad motherboard fried itiself too
and its lenovo
so im scared if my legion gonna fry
Well, take my case as example
after RMA and mobo replacement
it's been rock solid since January
0 issues
And there are people that had no problems, as you can see
Bro, there's no curse that after 3 months all die lmao
I know a person with similar situation to acszo's
in the other legion server
a girl had problems with her legion 7 motherboard dying like this
I think 2 times afaik
after 1 week
Look at the good side, you are still under warranty
because motherboard replacement outside warranty is just a ticket to shoot yourself
since it costs a lot
What kind of problem are we talking about? At least give a hint. If you don't want to then yeah, go ahead.
I'm sorry, I tried to delete that as I realized I needed to post my own thread.
Ended up deleting just one of two posts
Oh, np
update: they're sending me a new one, have to say the italian support for lenovo is lil sussy
A new laptop completely? Damn
That's better than getting a motherboard replacement, as long as you did not lose any super important data
Ye since i'm within the first 14 days, as for the data nothing too important but i had some work stuff so
Just gna be a pain doing the whole setup again when i did it few days ago
All the best wishes in the world for this other one to just run fine and you to have a pleasing experience with it! It sucks to start everything from scratch but the feel that the laptop you got is new and not some "attempt"of repair they might have done there is safer.
Ye this laptop cracked
, hopefully new one doesn't troll
Hi.
I just bought a Legion 5 Pro 16IAH7H i7 12700h and RTX3070 1 TB SSD 32 Gigs of ram.
For some reason the VGA crashes randomly.
Not when it is under stress, the laptop can run DOOM Eternal at 280+ fps, but I limit the fps to 60 in Nvidia control panel.
Same with Warhammer 3 and Mechwarrior 5, etc.
All of my games are locked to 60 fps max and I only play at 1980x1200 resolution.
BTW the crash came also before I made these changes.
Sometimes it appears when the laptop is turned on for a long time and only windows is running, nothing else.
It cannot be a thermal issue cause I have a cooling pads Spirit of Gamer 1000.
When this issue appears in games the screen became black and the mouse are glitching (plus not moving) and some parts in the screen have green blinking glitches. Like a usual VGA crash.
With windows the whole screen turns black and only the mouse is visible and glitching (still not moving).
In both case noting can help or work, and I have to press the power button to force the laptop for a forced restart.
I have tried to update the firmware and all driver from the official Lenovo site, but I till have the issue.
