#Revisiting Illuvium's NFT Value Proposition

Contrasting my current OW experience with that closer to launch, I think cheaper fuel has made the game more fun for me, giving more opportunity to grind for a high stat illuvial, venture into stage 3 runs frequently, not obsessing over whether it's worth shooting rocks and plants when I can only afford so many runs at a high price.

The fear of high-stat illuvials being more frequently acquired and losing their market value has not disinterested me from playing at all. It's actually helped wash away the fog enough for me to realize I really enjoy the OW even as-is while awaiting several large upgrades.

Is the thought of catching a $70,000 rhamphyre worth the loss of mass accessibility and more people embracing the IP, or has the narrative gone stale? I still see this dynamic muddy the waters often in new discussions. Even with the MMO-lite release, we will still need some form of financial gate to capturing illuvials, so I think the topic is still relevant, even if auto-drone runs are introduced.

TLDR: Are we on the right path by prioritizing high-value expensive illuvial NFT's, or in this more recent MMO/more accessible content and focus on fun gameplay, should we focus more on mass adoption vs whales and maintain low entry costs, accelerating adoption and more frequent spending.

I'm curious to hear the community's thoughts on this, and I'm hoping for a productive discussion. This conversation also ties into topics like burning illuvials to upgrade stats, because if we care more about frequent dopamine hits and general enjoyment with constant progression, or if we care more about maintaining an astronomical rhamphyre price target, that would really help us navigate many of these conversations with a more clear direction of ILV's future. Topic conversations can quickly get derailed because there are already players that have spent significant money to acquire rare high-stat illuvials, but that could potentially be remedied with in-game compensation.

I believe there has to be a balance between accessibility and end-game goals.
It has to be cheap enough for gamers to try. I think the most cost efficient entry is through battle pass. And we need to provide whales with ways to spend, such as the automated drone runs. Generally, F2P games are heavily supported by the top 5-10% spenders.
A $70k rhamphyre is exactly what we need.

What we need is use cases for the illuvials and ownership, cause right now there is only leviathan, and it remains to be seen how many people will go for it. Besides that what do we have on the horizon, the mmo? I'm very curious how we will implement the illuvials into it

Hi there, buddy!👋

Illuvials with good stats are quite affordable. The only truly expensive ones are the nearly or completely perfect illuvials. However, the difference in performance between a good and a perfect illuvial is negligible, while the price gap is enormous.

The current model effectively solves three key issues:

  1. It provides genuinely expensive items for whales who are willing to invest in the game to boast about that extra stat.

  2. It allows the average player to enjoy the game comfortably with good-stat illuvials, as they are reasonably priced.

  3. It keeps average players motivated to improve, extending gameplay and sustaining the active player base almost indefinitely.

Anyone who just wants to enjoy Leviathan can easily buy a good-stat illuvial at a low cost and level it up to 40-50. This will allow them to play at a high level comfortably.

Meanwhile, those striving for perfection and willing to spend their resources have endless opportunities to grind or purchase on the marketplace. The ultimate goal available right now—completely perfect illuvials (Dark holo with 30/30 stats and 60+ levels)—is achievable only in theory, which adds an extra layer of excitement.

✅ I’m absolutely thrilled with the current system!

Even though I stopped playing, I just want to double down on this phrase: "I think cheaper fuel has made the game more fun for me"

This is so true. The game feels way better to play now that fuel costs have lowered. You don't have to constantly be thinking how much does every single shot costs you, and you can simply play.

And there's still valuable illuvials and materials even though the game is basically dead.

Hope this is another lesson the team takes for the future.

I love the automated drone runs idea, anxiously waiting for it so I can spend my fuel. It's more so when stage 3 runs were like $10, felt very deterring. It took me a while to even enter a stage 1 run after buying cured shards and hyperion and solon. The total price to try it out was intimidating, and the stage 0 runs don't give the same feeling because there's effectively like 5 different illuvials.

I can see your point on good vs perfect illuvial stats being fairly negligible compared to the price hike. Maybe it's just the ability to open more packs/drone runs or do more OW runs that gives the good feeling, because you still get the enjoyment of opening a pack or currently of hunting illuvials for good stat finds. I don't mind high price illuvials existing (even in the tens of thousands), I just don't want the gameplay to be held back by a high price point for what will likely not yield a high stat illuvial. Even if they reduce the rate of perfect stat rolls but keep the fuel cost down, that's more what I'm trying to propose. I want to be able to spend more time in the game for the same money, but maintaining the rarity of high stats could be protected with a RNG nerf (including for drone runs).
