I have to say i really like the game and it isn't too hard or difficult to learn.
I got beta access on 19th may, reached top 20 at my 2nd day and beat stage 30 at 24th may for the first time. No studies prior to beta access.... all i want to say with that is that the game actually feels pretty intuitive, you can get better pretty fast and it still has enough deepness to provide room for improvement over years (especially with more Illuvials to come. Of course some further tool tips can help but game is actually in a pretty could state. Furthermore pvp game modes will feel completely different.
Tft and chess aren't really niche... chess is hundreds of years old and is played by quite a lot players...

Hmm, in most popular esport games the player has nearly full control, so, all games are decided by skill. Exception are card game in which you need to bring further skills regarding mental stability to be able to deal with luck below average (ofc. you have to identify if it is really just bad luck).
Furthermore Illuvium isn't fully deterministic since the crit seed (which is random between 0 to 100%, right?) can have a big impact since an illuvial could finish an assigned tank just one hit earlier than you expect which leads to a scenario in which the omega ability is unleashed at the back line instead of the tank. In survival mode you could identify your seed prior to this scenario but in pvp modes you just have to go with your highest win chance.
Sorry, if i don't really get your point but that is the kind of rng you want?

Just wanted to share my opinion too while respecting yours:

1. I personally find PB1 to be fun and challenging as it should be – I have access for 10 days now and reached top 20 in 5 of those days with no ‘pro/competitive’ background.
2. I think it HAS to be very difficult to get on top of the leaderboards because let’s remember, this mode (correct me if I’m wrong), might end up distributing rewards to a Top X% of players and if everyone could easily reach and beat the final wave then how do you separate players or limit the amount of rewards?
3. I do agree that even real sports have the element of luck involved and it did happen a few times in history when the underdog won (lucky or not) but let’s face it this happens rarely and in the vast majority of cases the better player/team wins so adding more RNG to the game won’t level the difficulty or make the game easier – which leads me to the next point I want to add
4. Maybe adding 1 More RNG element yes MIGHT make the game a bit more fun and unpredictable and yes it MIGHT give the weaker or casual player a higher chance to beat a ‘pro’ player BUT imagine when that RNG goes sideways – it will frustrate the casual player even more and make it even more difficult to come back in the game. Another issue that could appear is that RNG can make the players say ‘well I just had bad luck’ and will maybe hinder their determination to get better at the game or investigate what they did wrong/what they could’ve done better
   I’m not saying everything you said is wrong but I cannot agree. Yes on some days I felt like a noob and felt frustrated that I was spending like 2 hours to beat the same wave (but because I love the genre and the game feels very smooth I didn’t quit the next day). This for a casual player might end up as an issue but I’m feeling confident that there’s still much the team has to share with us.

im playing beta everyday, the game is very fun (also im quite disappointent in my current skilllvl :D) what i have to say that for sure some tooltipps are required, there should be a mouseover to get informations on every illuvials Omega + stats, also i find it hard for new players to discover that they can euqip the ranger "only shift rightclick right? no information for this at any point + the abilities for equipp should also be displayed)

for sure its just the beta and im also sure that team working on the stuff, but the game itself is very addicting, very cool graphics and design, and if i just think of that this is only a small portion of the future illuvials and therefor a trillion more possibilities will rise up. Holy cow 🙂

I am sorry you feel that way. I will discussed better ways to express opinions with my guild, but I will defend their point of view.

Look at the history of E-sports. They have always been high skill cap games. Starting with Fighter games, then the boom of StarCraft; An incredibly skill and reaction based game. Then the rise of Dota and League of legends. All of these games have minimal RNG and have seen massive growth and fan bases.

They all take thousands of hours to get to a competitive level and even then you may not be close to the top 1%. If we are trying to make a game worthy of an e-"Sport" It should take a lot of practice to become the best. Its not like you can just start playing football and be recruited for a pro football team. (and I'm American so I'm referring to the NFL 😏 )

I know it is hard. Hell I put in 2hrs a day and sometimes it is hard to get up to the top of the leaderboard. But I believe the hard core grinders will want a game worthy of 1000's of hours worth of growth for it to remain engaging.

Soon we will post video guides and coaching to educate players on how to reach the higher wave.

I also understand you may not be a fan of Survival. The PVP mode may fix all your concerns there, but I'm not about to go to leviathan and bet a couple eth if there is a big RNG component. I would rather just go to Vegas.

At the end of the day, esports should be competitive and fair. People should be rewarded in proportion to their skill, time and effort. Seems simple but look at so many games that have not been able to accomplish it or at least to a good degree.

More RNG doesn’t make a game better, it’s attracts a gambling mentality which is not conducive to illuviums success as a whole. You can’t have the biggest esports tournament where a prize pool or win can come be determined by what is essentially a roulette spin

And let’s say there’s an argument for survival to be more RNG based and pvp less so, that just makes the serious people avoid survival and your left with a casino for casuals and gamblers.

The way illuvium is set up, is that someone can start the beta today, put a lot of time and effort into it and rise up the leaderboards in the weeks following. Its just the start and it’s one mode, but we know it’s not about paying to win and it gives everyone a level playing field in so much as it is realistically possible’s’

I'm really struggling with understanding rogues and how to play them properly. Whenever I attempt to place 1 or 2 of them, I immediately lose that or the next round. Feels to me like I'm always better off just ignoring rogues and going for more tanky and scion-based characters.

What fundamental seed of knowledge am I missing here? Because rogues have their place in the game, it's only my lack of knowledge holding me back here. 🙂

You should ensure that you have enough rogues with enough tanks keeping the enemies at bay. Usually 1 rogue is too little and you would need 2 immediately to make a difference.

Umbre for example can kill Tatopee before it uses its omega, but when it comes to Teeantee it would get its omega off once, and you would have to use a Rake or Vermillia alongside it to kill it swiftly.
Add onto that that rogues are not tanky, so if you dont have plenty of tank, or heal+tank, they will get focussed too early and cant show their true potential.

But if you use a scarabok as tank, and it dies right away, and your rhamphyre is focussed next them you are fucked.

So to ensure that it doesnt die too quickly, you will need wnough damage to kill the carries, Rhamphyre on dualeph alone is not enough for that, and if you have that you get him stuck in that corner when it uses the omega.
So you would need a little more, and to ensure that your rhamphyre doesnt die before the omega, you would need enough tank for it.

My usual problem is (and I understand what Garf is saying): I put down 2 rogues, they clean up the enemy carry (Scoriox, Dualeph or similar) but by the time that is done, my entire front line is destroyed and I just get snowballed.

Perhaps I try and play rogues too early? Feels like they are much more mid/late-game, waves 12-13+.

If a rogue gets hyper it silences every third hit. Rhamphy has a shit ton of attack speed so it silences for one second every 3 seconds. So basically adorius will try to do its casting of the omega for 3 seconds and gets silenced after 2. Every time.

In this battle Rhamphyre auto attack deal 161 dmg and crit does 242 dmg
When Aegis was trigger, attack deal 110 and crit does 165 (the moment when that visual effect appear)
Archeleon's defense went from 30 to 90
And after that, it's 117 and 183 with crit.

Question1: why does the dmg slightly lower when the shield apper?

It might be because : On Battle Start, Aegis Illuvials apply a Shield to their closest ally. Additionally Aegis Illuvials gain Physical and Energy Resistance the first time they drop below 50% Health - so it seems that it's the 1st time in battle when he dropped below 50% health so he gained some more Physical and Energy Resistance

of course there might be some other interactions in play at the moment (not 100% sure)

Will my Aegis and Colossus gain 300 point in health and 30 point in physis and energy defense?

The exact numbers i dont have, but you can check under colossus and it shoild tell you: Bulwark = ......
Then multiply that by 3 (as you have three bulwark stacks) and you get the bulwark boost it will receive.

In these two days testing the game, my main doubt is if I would not get bored quickly after handling the combinations of beasts well (that can take some time for sure). I agree, the ability to buy stronger characters sets a higher barrier to entry for new players. It’s super fun and engaging in survival mode, and I’m sure the game will still do great.
