Battlepass could be a nice deterrent for the multiaccount issue, if you want to play for free you play casual, if you want to compete in ranked you need the battlepass. Drastic but maybe the only real solution we have.

We can even create few events for the casual mode to keep people interest while they re learning the game or not interested in big prizes but still want to play gauntlet.

If we were a Web3 project, then yes, this could work.

They grumbled a little and kept paying. They pay about $10 for a 3-stage Overworld run. They spend big money on ADR.

They keep playing, even though it’s much more expensive now. And the project started making some real money.

Want to play? Pay. Overworld is perfect in that sense.

If a similar approach is applied to Ranked (I mean @twilit storm idea about the Battle Pass) — I’d be happy. The main thing is to make it expensive enough.

How does this work?
For example, we hold a major Leviathan tournament.
A few players with strong decks win.
Then @analog sandal looks at this and thinks:
"Why shouldn’t I take their money if I can play just as well?"
And he spends, say, $800 on a deck.

Now let’s consider a different scenario, where tournaments and activities are scarce or nonexistent.
A hypothetical player, Whity, looks at this and realizes Leviathan has no future. He sells his deck for next to nothing.

Then another player, @flint lodge , sees that the focus is entirely on F2P and also considers selling his deck.

If you want players to start buying, give them motivation.
There need to be regular Leviathan tournaments. Big prizes every week.

The focus has to shift from freeloading (F2P) to milking whales (P2W).

But that’s pure fantasy.

I dont think this should be ignored, but I also think parts of these problems will solve itself as the game grows.
One of the reasons you can do this now is due to a low playerbase and no MMR. With more players they would need several high ranked accounts to make this work, which is gonna be harder and harder with more players here. Enforced by the fact that you are using one account to grief, making it really hard to match the rating of your main account.
With more players and competition its also gonna be much harder to get a top 100 spot, let alone trying to get multiple accounts there.

Again I for doing something proactively to combat the current problem. And Im pro battlepass for sure. Just wanted to add the perspective, that a large part of the problem is just now where we have few players.

Yes, I waited far too long for our Illuvials to shine. I believed in the project too much and for too long. You can’t fall in love with a project — that was my mistake. For all these years we never had a clear vision of how Leviathan was supposed to develop. We spent 6 years building the game around the Leviathan, and only in the last year decided to change direction — starting with nerfing stats and levels — because we were afraid it would scare away players, even though we didn’t even have a leaderboard or tournaments.

Recently, we saw how both the players and the market became energized after we ran two tournaments. I’m honestly not very good at playing, but the current state of Leviathan, its levels and stats, is just painful. Skill can be trained in a month, but getting perfect stats and levels is extremely difficult. Skilled players should be striving to build a team with the best stats possible and collect as many strong Illuvials as they can — but right now, they don’t really need to.

With enough skill, the game can be won easily just by having 5 Illuvials for your meta at level 50 and 3–4 strong stats, without even needing S1. I’ve said this many times already, but the team decided to build their strategy around the mass market. That strategy doesn’t work for me.

I believe that 20% of whales should generate 80% of the company’s revenue. Guys over 30 with money and businesses don’t want to grind the arena 24/7. They need to be able to hire people to find Illuvials for them, to hire pro players — and that would drive trading volume. Unfortunately, I don’t see or understand the company’s vision.

I sold my deck for 7 times less than I had spent on it, but in just one week I already recouped that investment in another project that I had previously spent on Illuvium. Sooner or later they will have to come back to whales, maybe even rethink their approach to lands, and then the picture could change a bit.

Totally agree. The team needs to find a way to give items value and identity, not only illuvials.
I see many things that dont make sense and i hope MMO OW will change all that and actually be a great game.

• Make the market like the Auction House in WoW. Stackable itens when they are the same, for example.
• We need a way to get rid of useless stuff, like a verdor, random fuses, whatever...
• Itemization with random stats is horrible. Items need to have IDENTITY. I want to have an excalibur, not an earth sword, stage 3, with random stats. (Thats actually the main issue i see in this game. Everything is random. feels like gambling sometimes...)
  When you grind for something, you need to feel rewarded when you get it. And if you dont want to grind, you will pay for it in the market. Items will have actual value.

Many other things, but im going to w8 for OW and see the changes because they will change nothing in this version, understandably.

Just a tip: WoW is a proven timeless game with people playing the classic version even today even with blizzard/activision riping everyone.
I actually think that when someone makes a game WoW-like with NFT items, it will be the most played game ever.

A really good way is to go into a match as a spectator. That way you have plenty of time to hover over all the things and read and learn without having to be contrained by time, because you arent actually playing.
