From what I observed it is the impact of the omega (aka the ultimate action).
With increasing omega power for example if it is healing it would heal more, or if it is a damaging attack it would cause more damage.

You can bound your ranger to an illuvial to build synergy. For example bond them to Squizz to get shock synergy

Also unit from the same family cant stack synergy, eg squid. Which means currently the only way to get the shock syngergy bonus is by bonding your ranger to one of the squids

Yes and for bonding the ranger, you need a weapon with an affinity on him.

Also dont forget the hyper mechanic.

Imagine playing Nature. Enemies with fire affinity will start becoming hyper real fast and gain extra attack speed / stats. But you can add a malura or lulura to your team. they are also nature to some extent but you can then choose to make em earth dominant to inhibit the hyper point acquisition of the enemy fire team!

Having a relatively balanced affinity composition will allow you to usually beat those that are imbalanced!
