Because it has to be delivered this year. Unless one of the other projects generates us a lot of revenue (which is obviously the intention, especially with Loadout) we don't have a choice, we only have runway until March next year, and we don't want to release it with zero runway. It is an interesting question though, if we had no runway concerns would we keep polishing it, and I think my answer would still be no, we have 6 months to polish the game and its already in a decent state. There should be no reason whatsoever to delay it past December

Don´t lean on that. The market pressures on Trump, the influence from Israel and the interested of Iran on Ormuz and the nuclear program are impossible to align. Many changes must be made to the conversation for it to move forward and Trump's instability can take it any way (on a daily basis even).

Hi Kieran, quick piece of feedback. The V3 staking launched in November and it’s now been over six months. The utility of the shards was supposed to be shared afterwards, but we still haven’t received any update on that.

With Loadout now bringing profit share and airdrop into the staking system, I think it would be really valuable to first clarify and deliver on what the V3 shards are meant to do, **before **building more features on top of it.

Just wanted to share that thought.

I think if loadout is supposed to be a reward/airdrop system it should be tied to something that players have been able to show support for illuvium through (like staking or zero) not something new. Alot of players are slim on funds they can use on illuvium now (including myself) so they can't put much more into the game. It would be nice to see something come out to support the players that have been here for a while.

So far we don't really know how the fight against Barius is going to work. He's a Leviathan, so he's massive compared to us. As a Lee Counter, I have my own database on everything related to Leviathans. We still don't have much information on what exactly a Leviathan is, but we know they're pretty hostile. For names we are trying to follow a similar, but more mature naming theme than Pokemon for our Illuvials.

We posted a turtle type character, which was inspired by the animal with genus Archelon. We have named it Archeleon.
We posted a pterodactyl type character, which was inspired by the animal with genus Rhamphorhynchus. Since it is an Inferno / Slayer we named it Ramphyre.

The genus of the character above is Thylacine. (Also called Tasmanian Tiger so I'm going to pretend I have fulfilled the cat requirement 😉 ). Its Affinity is Steam, and its class is Phantom. A good name is something cool, fun to stay, and incorporates some or many elements of its genus, affinity, and class. It doesn't need to incorporate the elements directly. It can hint at them. (The snake prototype from the other day is magma Affinity, and its working name is Scoriox)

Remember, the Stage 3 version of these Illuvials are seen by some as deity-like. The names should match. 🙂

The short answer is “no”. The longer answer is that the synergy system means that the strength of a character depends on the composition of a team.

If you have all fire illuvials they get a cool bonus for that battle. If you only had one fire Illuvial they wouldn’t get the bonus.

Check out games like TFT to understand how that works.

ETH is the in game currency. That’s the short answer at least. A medium post this week will have more info, but that is definitely the common way to pay.

Capturing NFTs is definitely a mix of luck and skill. There is a small bit of skill (usually) to hit the encounter. We will have more details about that later. There is skill required to select a draft that can win the encounter.

Capture is then luck based, in the same way that Pokeballs don’t always capture things. Better Shards have better chances.

And finally there is luck in getting a “rare capture” which doesn’t mean the Illuvial is rare, but rather the capture process is rare. This is where you get things like Shiny captures or Holo captures.

That is purely cosmetic and totally luck based. You can’t pay to get a holo capture...unless you buy one on the marketplace from another player.

Not like how you are thinking. If the Shard fails you still keep the Shard. The Illuvials might escape though. Just find a new encounter and try again.

The reason to have stronger shards would be that rare Illuvials don’t appear in every encounter, so you might want to take your shot.

But if you played for long enough you will find that creature again.

You can think of it as a time cost rather than an ETH cost. You buy the Shards in town. Once you are in a region and hunting you don’t pay ETH.

If Shards broke we think that would be a very negative experience, so we don’t have that. People who are willing to invest time will be on a similar playing field with players willing to invest ETH (to buy Shards with the best capture rates)

Which is NOT something you get in many deck building games. Buying a pack of cards is usually 100% gambling. With us you get more control over what you get.

It’s also nice we get to keep failed shards. Pokeballs aren’t that annoying since we don't spend real money.

One thing though, I hope there won't be a purchasable "master shard" with 100% capture rate (like master ball in Pokemon). If you do make a "master shard", give it through quests, events or as championship trophies or such so that it feels satisfying, retains rarity and stays fair.

I am in the process of hiring an economist to go through rates, costs, etc to make something satisfying to as many people as possible. There is no plan to have a 100% Shard (except the stronger shards when used on common Illuvials, which I think is fine).

Remember, the systems are reasonably complex with crafting, mining, team composition, rare captures. Lots of math to think about.

I’m sure after release there will be lessons to learn and things we say we should have done differently but we want everyone to see a mix of experiences.

Someone very rich might have a whole team of holos, with rare skins (can’t talk too much about that), rare weapons and armour and all top tier Illuvials. And in the leviathan arena they will be strong (though not necessarily the strongest, skill is in all arenas)

But for us we want people to understand that rich person had to buy their stuff from someone. Which means less rich people are being rewarded for their time in the game.

Targeting PC and Mac first. Linux is not a difficult one since we are using UnrealEngine but it might not be officially supported, at least at launch.

All the characters we have leaked so far will be part of the Beta. There are many many more that you won't ever see until game launch.

This is actually the basic attack only. We'll be putting out more details in the coming weeks, and this is common to most of the very tiny Auto Chess genre, so I don't think what I'm going to say is much of a spoiler:

In the game each creature has a basic attack (with two versions for variety), a critical attack (which functions identically to a normal attack except applies a critical hit multiplier), and an Ultimate Ability. I think you'll REALLY like the Ultimate

So technically this is a single target hit. I will not go into the details of the Synergy Bonus for either Inferno or Slayer (which is what Rhamphyre is).

As for the animations, we have two animators that have a ton of experience in film and games (and we are only going to outsource to the best studios in the industry), and they are working hard to give the characters a real sense of weight and purpose. We hope you like it. 🙂

That's an interesting break down of the animation types for the attacks. I am relatively new here, so I apologise if this has been asked before, but is this game mainly consist of monster/animal type creatures? Is there any humanoid creatures in this game? I am very interested in this unique game as I have applied for your animation position. I'm sure that I will receive an email about my application soon but I hope I can get more explanation surrounding this game and its animations. I hope this was appropriate to ask.

We received over 100 applications for the animator position so it could be that we are sorting through it. Flick me a quick DM and I'll check out where it is at.

As for the question, the game is almost entirely creature battle. As the player yourself, you step into the battle, you are an alien, but you are humanoid. So that would be the one "non creature" in the game.

As for the Illuvials, we are taking inspiration from animals on earth, since we don't really know what alien animals might look like. The reason for this is because some people are really attached and relate to animals they already know. Making them crazy and alien was a choice we thought would be really fun. If you'll notice, most the creatures in our game we are taking from extinct animals because we felt that would be a better way to get across an 'unknown' feel to them.

But of course... we can't have cats. That would be just wrong.

Hi, on medium it says "Each player wears a protective suit of armor and wields a futuristic weapon." -> Does "suit of armor" means "only 1 piece" or is this split into "head, body, pants shoes, etc." (like in common RPGs)? And for "futuristic weapon" the same (1handed, 2handed, shield.. or only 1 weapon)?

Furthermore: Will the armor and weapons or only the crafting materials - or (most assumable) both be tradeable?

1 piece for the armour. 1 piece for the weapon (but as you say, there are many different weapons to craft.

Materials and Forged Items both traceable.

Armour will have skins, modifiers etc, but visually it will be one piece.

Technically not COMPLETELY true, but I can’t say more about the extra add on that is visual yet.

The 1 piece suit is something that may change. I doubt it but it could happen.

If there is huge demand for modular armour we would add it by converting your existing 1 piece into a set (burn the one nft and mint shoulders, arms, legs, etc).

I doubt this will happen and don’t think we gain too much out of having mix and match sets.

Nah. That wouldn't be in the top 100 most difficult problems we'd have to deal with. Split the attribute values across the pieces, and it will still add up to the same total values. Probably break it up in a believable way so that some pieces only affect certain attributes. No problems. Would have to be voted on though.

But like I said, I don't think it adds too much for a balance perspective, just more busy work for players. From a customisation perspective it gives people a way to differentiate, but we're going to allow skins that are quite aesthetic.

There are benefits to both systems, and I don't doubt some would prefer one over the other. But it isn't enough of a priority that we would spend the extra time designing modular pieces. We will see how it goes.

The contest is to name the Axolotl inspired character. Naming in Illuvium works on a way similar to other collectible RPG games. Each character belongs to a LINE which usually has 3 stages. Names should somehow evoke the feeling of the character, and reference one of 3 things:

Genus (In this case Ambystoma Mexicanum)
Affinity (In this case Stage 1 is Water, Stage 2 Water, Stage 3 Mud [water + earth]
Class (In this case Stage 1 is Psion [mage], Stage 2 Harbinger [psion + guardian], Stage 3 Harbinger.

The names should be cohesive, with some element of the name carrying on through the 3 stages.

Stage 1 should be cuter, and sometimes shorter, trying to match the nature of the creature.
Stage 2 should expand on this (although it doesn't HAVE to be longer)
Stage 3 should evoke a more deity like feel. Some characters will have more demonic style names, others will be more angelic, although they do NOT have to be specifically names of angels and demons. The main idea is to carry across a feeling of gravitas that matches the type of character.

The Pterodactyl character stage 3 is an Inferno Slayer based on the extinct animal Rhamphorhynchus. The name is Rhamphyre.

Ultimate Ability of the Scorpion Stage 3 is “Toxic Skewer”.

Name of the scorpion has not been set, but it is based off of Eurypterid so we are thinking Ryplance. (Rip-lance)

There won't be gas fees in game. They're building the game on the future immutable X. All in game stuff in the market will have no transaction fees. Or else this sort of game would be impossible I'd say.

In Sanskrit Ramph translates: To hurt, kill
