What if you have built up all your Illuvials to revolve around fire, and then people start using more water Illuvials. You might want to rent a few to "test drive" before dropping a major investment.

This will keep the overall market flowing as well. And it should keep it from growing stagnant, as tactics and team combos will always be evolving and changing. Especially as more new Illuvials are brought to market

Lets call them "platform-first" (dcl, sv, smonium etc.) and the other set "utility-first" (axie, ember,vulcanverse etc.). How is the state of affairs right now? Are "platform first" metaverses >> "utility first" metaverses? In what scenario (if any) do you see platform first metaverses such as DCL, SOMNIUM, etc. overtaking utility first platforms? where does illuvium fit in?

I am not too fussed with the naming of things either. The points you made are real and valid. Lets set the playing field - metaverse (from wikipedia) is a virtual world where people can meet, play games etc. Now if start from this basis VulcanVerse is a metaverse. It is a metavers where you can play games, meet other, do stuff on your land etc. etc and is gaming focussed. So a "utility-first" metaverse. Then you have dcl,somnium etc. which are not focussed on a game but provide a platform for people to do anything they want including games. So these are "platform-first" metaverse. Now imagine the present - how are these metaverses performing right now. Who is winning users, revenue etc etc. Now imagine the future - will they converge? which platform will get there first? which platform will fail or succeed. All good food for thought topics.

I try to tie everything together. When I was making Affinities at first it was called “type” like Pokémon then I realised I was just building a game mechanic not a part of the lore. So I rethought the lore of it and Affinity was born. It’s not a super strong tie in but it least it offers a small explanation for why the mechanic exists in the first place.

Yea it's a mechanism to balance the pool and allow for a fairer price discovery at launch. The weighting starts at 2:98 (ETH/ILV) and over 7 days balances out to 40:60 (ETH/ILV). If no-one traded, the price will naturally go down.

when you say it balances out that means, it will buy ILV to raise the price? how will that ratio go to 40:60. Either you will have to supply in more ETH or buy ILV?

It's the mechanism of the pool that rebalances the ratio. I don't actually know how it works behind the scenes, sorry 😦

So everytime someone buys, they send ETH to the pool and the ratio changes. This increases the price like normal. If no-one buys, instead of staying static, the mechanism of the pool rebalances the ratios, and reduces the price again. How that's done, I'm not sure. Let me look it up..

Lets say both the pool is $100 to start with. $2 of eth and $98 of ilv. People buy ILV, now the pool has less ilv and more eth.. say I buy $5 ilv. now the pool is $7:$93..and so on. Enevtually it will reach $40:$60. This means that people have bought enough ilv. If no one buys, then they buy themselves to readjust the pool to $40:$60. So the best strategy in this case is to buy and sit back...

An analogy I found in a different project using the same Balancer pool. "Flappy Bird would constantly drop towards the bottom of the screen, unless you tapped, which would give a temporary boost in height. Adding ETH to the pool is a similar nudging mechanism, pushing the price up slightly each time and counterbalancing the downward pressure of the shifting asset weights."

In the above flapp bird, sometimes the support (the poles are at different levels) - i guess thats taking into account the price volatility of eth. ETH price goes up the pole is shorter, ETH price goes down the pole is higher. Is this correct? is this understanding correct @barren scaffold ?

Not sure I understand your question. The actual price of ETH doesn't impact the balance of the pool in this case. Also the liquidity in this pool is provided by the team, not the community as it's the "launch" pool (IDO). When this IDO is finished, the Uniswap pool will go live, and then you will have to consider the risk violatility in ETH poses if you were to provide liquidity there.

That risk is reflected in the yield rewards that will be provided.
