There is so much to explain, one thing that is destorying blockchain game are mutli-accounts and bots. Companies are giving rewards for accounts. So if player can make real money playing 1 account. why not 2 or 3? Heck why not run 100 bots? Because the game is feeding them 'rewards' for playing. There are ways to fix this with the biggest draw being player created battle / events in which they have filters they can fine tune. let your community manage the events and have lists of bot accounts and such in which they can ban from event. If your commmunity-created events aren't the biggest value opertunity in this game, it will be plauged with bots.

Already GU is failing they are making multi account and the company knows and it isn't disallowed. They don't see the problem for it yet. I seen the company claim 'there is no reason'...that's no forsight.

The reason is they might be a GOOD player with those multi-accounts. Those players are winning all the weekly 'prizes' right now, unfairly, while no one else can get cards...building their multi-account...but why? WHY: They can play 1-2-3rd place in ALL the tourmanets, horde all the prizes from muliple accounts. Company thinks it's fine. It will fail.

So maybe that was a slip. It's inevitable anyways unless there is action. the best action is let players decide who to let in their touraments then there is no fault of the company. player can design their touraments how they want.

It's a problem in every game GU is not special ppl will make multi account to win the freebees. freebees are a gimmick. you need complete player touraments constantly. the rewards are not cards and such...

it's backwards to reward cards. Kill the economy. You instead rewards around your currency and inflate it to agument player rewards. if entry fee per player is 100imx then the company puts up 50 more for every player so players make the touraments.

They are using IMX token in this game.

They will be stuck giving rewards denomiated in GAME items rather than IMX they cant agument rewards with IMX very well.

Their method will work for a short time only. It will end up being a gimmick though, with the only incentive to be 100% ILLUVIUM issued rewards. Players won't find value in creating their own pvp battles for rewards without agumentation

Yes because they must try and give 'rewards' with game items. that's fine to farm stuff, but the economy is dead without inflation. This method makes the value of items always drop!

You need to have an inflating medium that is the fundamental step #1.

Otherwise it will never scale.

They way they have, they are going to inflate the items but not the currency LOL the items will become worth less but the currency will become worth more. It seems like a small thing, but it absolutely most critical thing to get right.

The reason I say it will take time and seemingly work for a little while is because people aren't so keen. But they will figure it out after time, what is going on. The early investors will see the value of their stuff going down against IMX the medium and that will be it. It will only work for some time.

They choose to run a game for a crypto 'investment' on the side, their 'token' when the token is just a TOOL not an investment. a medium of exchange CANT be an investment, it doesn't work in prinicple.

@sonic ember ImmutableX is an exchange protocol. Illuvium uses its own coin although most payments in game will be in ETH. Details of this will be announced shortly.

Inside our game we have implemented a lot of things to level the playing field with bots. We will not be giving free things per account as obviously this would lead to inflation since people would just make multiple accounts and trade to their main.

I am really glad you are looking out for the health of the game. We appreciate the community thinking through things as I’m sure we can’t think of everything (although I do get teased internally for trying to tie up even the smallest of loose ends)

Rest assured. As we release info I’m sure the community will offer great suggestions that we will implement.

Hello :). I'm a 39 years old Dual-Class Writer/Software Engineer (about 20 years of experience in each) (Lately I've been spec'ing my Product Visionary class too :D, so I'm going for Multi Class). I've been into cryptocurrencies since the very early days (back when Bitcoin was 4 dollars to be precise 😄 and no, I didn't make millions 😄 )

I find NFTs to be very interesting. The announcement of Illuvium came just days after I had started to take a harder look at NFTs. Sometimes I get this strong gut-feeling vibe from certain events in my life, and what I read & seen about Illuvium has struck a chord. I've spent most of my life designing and thinking about games & game stories. In the same time, I'm also a bit of a social activist and I think blockchain can really change how things work in the future (think how the internet disrupted radio shows, that's what blockchain's gonna do to banks 😄 ). Illuvium is at the intersection of gaming & crypto, so yeah, here I am, writing a long enthusiastic message :D.

As it happens, in the past 3 years I've been developing a story telling engine. I also collaborate and participate in the startup company www.machinations.io (it's a game design tool).

I have a question for anybody that has sufficient knowledge about Illuvium's plans to compensate those that take part in its development.

I guess one aspect of the game will be unique skins and items. But, applying a process of natural selection (community voting), does Illuvium intend to incorporate some of the most popular NFT assets into the main game? i.e. buy the art from the makers?

Hey Kyliathy, sounds like youve found a good home with NFT gaming, its gonna have a profound effect in potentially getting up to billions of people onboard with crypto and using these bankless defi services. Gaming will be many peoples leg into this ecosystem. Especially play to earn, which Illuvium will have an emphasis on too.

As to your questions, Interoperability to the level where assets from other popular NFT apps and games are integrated and function within Illuviums games is unlikely in the near term. but is on the long term roadmap. That could be anything from 2-10 years. The commercial viability of this has yet to be proven in such a fledgling ecosystem, especially where most developers are struggling for cashflow until the recent bull has eased that.

On the governance side and getting rewarded for participating and contributing. You can probably apply for a job somewhere, ill see if I can find you a link, and other than that there will likely be a community treasury with a DAO voting structure. And you should be able to make proposals to the DAO in order to receive funding to complete projects if there is significant hype for them. The rewards here would mostly be in ILV token afaik.

One piece of advice id give a developer interested in NFTs, is to look into Starkwares Cairo SDK and Immutable X exchange thats coming out soon. Having proficiency in these tools will be in very high demand as soon as they release. Probably will be at least a year before full launch, but theres some tools to start learning already I believe

@inner topaz one of the things missing from the #📣〕announcements FAQ is "How can I participate in Illuvium's development?". Judging simply by the fact that NFTs are involved, I guess some links on the topic of NFT creation, management and deployment would be highly useful. I would say that the sooner you guys get up a "Contributors" page, the better. And yes, I know this is possibly very early, but... I'm here, I want to contribute, and possibly others will join soon. The faster you guys are able to hook us up to the matrix, the faster you're going to get our brains pumping some beautiful ideas and/or content.

On a Contributors page, I'd list links about the tech involved, initial content workflow proposals, some key people to bombard with questions (which you can pick during the coming weeks) and so on.

Perhaps I'm a bit over-enthusiastic 🙂 (that's the product visionary in me). This is a new age for game development and you're one of the early movers. So you (or we, as in everybody in the boat) may become trend-setters. Beyond competitive advantage, we can think about being a leading example for the next generation of such games. Since we're even here, we all know that the future economy will work quite differently. I feel that we will increase our chances of success (as a fledgling new field) if we open up and attract as many from the other side as possible, as fast as possible.

Yes. You could take them off the IMX layer and trade them. However there would be GAS fee for this, plus any GAS fee for trading them. And then the other person would have to bring them back to IMX before they would be usable in the game.

Great article and love the art. Only thing negative that stood out to me was losing my illuvials using the wrong shard, I’m sure it’s not the case but came across like it could be very easy to make a mistake and miss out. Any elaboration on this process?

When you enter an encounter and win, you have a chance to capture an Illuvial in a shard. There is some randomness to this. Sometimes you will capture, and other times not. Better shards reduce the chance of a miss. That’s all.

You can’t lose something you already own in a fight.

You can deliberately destroy an Illuvial, but you do that to enhance an item.

What he is thinking so far is offer some Starter Illuvials that are only playable in a new training arena so people can get the hang of the synergies. The illuvials would be worth nothing though as you could make infinite accounts therefore making their rarity basically zero. I dunno, he comes from a free to play background, I've more recently been enjoying pay to play. So we are a little torn on this decision. I personally don't think someone should be able to pay nothing, earn a shard and capture something super rare and then sell it on the marketplace and earn for nothing, while some other guy is paying. Doesn't really make sense to me. Remember there will be sILV rewards for tournaments and ranked play, so this is getting something with "sweat equity*, something that Axie implemented really well.

He's pretty smart though, he will most likely solve the issue for both sides.

We will put out some solid info about 1 month from now about the general nature of the F2P part of the game. But I would emphasize that the F2P element will be very unlikely to be Play2Earn. There are bots to take care of, the general economies of the game, and increasing player count.

There are a lot of variables to go through, and the eye of that needle is incredibly small. But I'll thread it. You'll have a game with a *fun F2P part, rare and valuable things, lots of players, and no way for bots to ruin the game.

I have one more piece to go, and it has to do with the way we implement travel. If I can solve that we'll be there.

You need to buy shards in order to capture monsters. More powerful illuvials do make it easier to win battles, but only to a certain extent. Auto battles take a ton of skill due to the synergies that are required. Try playing league of legends team fight tactics. It all depends on your opponents team/ synergies vs your own. If you don’t know how to play, regardless of how strong your illuvials are it’s likely your opponent will wreck you.

I see what you are saying but you need to remember as well that the floor price for an axie is still very high and most people wanting to get in and play to earn won't care but bad breeds won't get you in the top 100 for the tournaments which is where you can earn good amounts. People want to get those top places which is where the better breeders come in. I personally now go off of what I'd like to see in my team but to start with I didn't care at all. As far as I know they have plans in motion to hell combat excessive breeding which would include cooldown periods and they already put in a cap on SLP gained through adventure and we know that the parts on an axie will be able to be upgraded so who knows how thatll help. I get what your saying don't get me wrong but you still need to think about making a game accessible to people that might not be able to spend alot to earn alot. If they made it so people can play and earn for free but it's going to take you many many more hours to earn what someone who pays £20 that's will combat that

Can confirm, skill ceiling for Autobattlers is actually very high. They are extremely complex games, especially when you approach to higher end of the skill ceiling. The higher skill cap you go, the less randomness is involved. In TFT you have players like Mismatched Socks and k3soju who are godlike, and while some people see the game as heavily RNG, these players single handedly prove otherwise. At one point Socks held the top 3 spots in EUW ladders at the same time, this is an insane achievement and simply wouldnt be possible if there wasnt a ton of skill involved.

On launch there will not be any land ownership. The main reason for this is that the "Overworld" is a single player game so you wouldn't interact with other players anyway. However this won't always be the case. We had to make sure when we started that we had a project with not TOO large a scope, and focus most on the art.

Personally I always loved the exinct pokemon, so I love that these are largely based on extinct influences. It's a monster dream come true 😂✊

I think earth types myself. Like I said extinct types were always my favourite for pokemon and I can't wait to see that influence come through here and rock I think captures that.

The name Illuvium! Does this name tie into the lore/story @plain delta has created???

In the screenshot we see that there is a potential water theme (as suggested by @regal heath). Which also seems to scratch at a deeper philosophical question.

Water moving around a pebble in a river or stream. Could this have a deeper meaning like time moving around a world or idea? A reoccurring loop?
Or maybe it's more literal, a world slowly eroded down by time and entropy, like a smooth pebble in a river.

Also!

Things falling out of the sky ? We know our character falls out of the sky (via a their spaceship crashing)? And based on this concept art it looks as if potentially Obelisks fell out of the sky. And as @vernal tundra wonders, could the Illuvials themselves have fallen?

Ive thought about it a bit too, and to me Illuvium kind of represents Light being used as a mineral/material. Like Alluvial deposits. Deposits of light/illumination around the world, which could refer to life/consciousness itself, or to an actual material in the game world. On the water side, Water represents the unconscious in mythology, and the Illuvium world is largely submerged in water according to the lore.

Based on what was said above, a world being shaped by light, or consciousness (the coordination of the players, creatures, dev team etc). As an kind of expression of the collective unconscious

And to Illuminate the unconscious mind you must shed light into the darkness and name all the monster roaming around out there in said darkness.

Love it man. The deposits make sense as well, just the name "shard" seems to implicate that it's coming off of something. Or a small chipping off a larger source.

And the world does look suspiciously like an "almost Atlantis".

(hopefully a lot of that water will recede in future expansions 😆 )

And yeah, the shards will be a key part of the lore, and I think the material they are made of will be closely tied to the name Illuvials/Illuvium. The life energy that radiates from this mysterious alien planet, coming from the mineral these shards came from.

Ahhhh makes sense why you'd want your Illuvials contained back into that said life source, and also how the shard could keep the Illuvial alive and well. It's keeping them in a tiny piece of the world, with all it's energy and radiance self contained.

Could it be you, crash landed on this supposedly desolate planet? Was this all by chance or is there some fate that influenced you to come here and care for the land? Who or what created the obelisks and for what purpose? For now, all you can do is survive the elements.

I also had the idea that the planet is a graveyard for gods and each Illuvial is just a part of a god (the stage 3 version) that died and splintered into however many are lurking on the islands. This could be why scans of the planet show no signs of actual life and why they have names that evoke being of a higher order.The obelisks could be explained as tether points that keep the Illuvials from blinking out of existence on the material plane. I like to think the player is the one who put the obelisks there as a god in a past life and are you are a reincarnated god yourself. You were drawn to the planet unknowingly but also naturally as you curated it in the past. Then you could be gathering Illuvials to fight the ones who killed you or maybe simply to keep them existing for sentimental reasons. No real evidence for this but thought it was a fun story.
