Hey yea, I played that a lot! I had 100s of sojs by the time LOD came out but not long after duping became prevelent. I think LOD ruined that game, the runewords OP cookie cutter. THe random rares were so fun for me.

I played a barb mostly in classic and had such great items I would trade and trade some items worth 40 sojs alone and soj was worth $10+ at that time 😄

I mean if i started talking gfg rares not many ppl would understand. When lod came out on 1st week someone TK'd a grandfather sword which sucked and I knew it sucked but I bought it for 40 sojs and I put it on ebay and it sold for $750. The sojs at the time were worth like $400.

During LOD i had GFG stuff too...but I sold it cuz I couldn't play anymore...let me tell you, I sold a pack on ebay for $700 also, much of my barb...but if I had kept one thing, I could be worth way more.

I had a BUGGED charm that no one knew about. it was bugged like no other item...it changed stats based on the TIME of day (in game) which wasn't even a front-end feature.

But the charm really did change stats from game to game!

It was insane like -80 str +200 vit much of the time with other mods.

There will be a few games in this blockchain space that get absolutely huge like 1m+ players, many will suffer...that's the risk. Like one im playing is litebringer its pretty boring just an idle grinder which is actually pointless, no pvp...there's like no content it is trash. That said, it's like a ponzi, you get far ahead and farm more and sell to the people that want to jump far ahead too. But there are like 300 accounts right now and it's been stuck here. It wont turn to much unless it gets like 3k ppl.

Couple aspects of these games to be aware of when investing is you know, power creep...cards becoming worth less as new sets come out. Devs have a huge advtanage if they dabble in market. For example in splinterlands they are selling lands to 'craft cards' I presume you will use a variety of specific set cards to create these new cards. So there could suddenly be demand to craft with cards that had no demand before. I'm always afraid of dev ruining game or some corruption them investing in the cards that will be needed before hand.

I guess it would be such small amount of $ but then again who knows who learns of what's to come before hand, it could be anyone. If the games got big and a .02 card will suddenly need 10 of them to craft something else well then buying all 1000 on the market might tripple ur $ etc

oh i was looking into nexomon extinction when it first came out but i didnt like some of the designs (thought the ones i did like were absolute bangers) and from what i could dig up i ended up filing it into the "maybe when its on sale" pile

There is a big world to explore. Inside that world you sometimes trigger encounters. Those encounter battles are like an auto battle where you either win or you don’t. If you win you have the chance to capture something. After that, you are back in the world and you can walk around and explore (and more).

Soon after we will have PVP with other players. (Can’t release together or nobody would have Illuvials to play with). We imagine some people will like to go around collecting. Others (me) just want to test their skill in ranked PVP. Others (not mentioning names) will want to play Leviathan arena with crazy powerful expensive rare collections.

Once again, the texturing and the lighting effects are very realistic. Very well done.
I assume it’s a snake. Perhaps the head has a slight dragon vibe to it but it’s more snake to me. The posture is like a cobra.
Is it breathing fire in the back of the mouth? I see an orange glow. If it is, that is cool, and I would suggest emphasizing it more maybe breathe out small flames and have smoke coming out of the nostrils.
The one feature that is flat for me are the eyes. Whether it’s meant to be all black or not, perhaps a little glint/shine on it may give it more life? Just a suggestion.

I always understood it to be that a very small percentage of people even purchase in game items (around 5%?) so the f2p model grows the game and exposure creating more demand for higher end items purchased by investors and speculators.

I quit GU it's basicly a premine at this point. Anyone in the 'closed' beta was afforded the opertunity to get good cards, raffle tickets etc. Then, the company decide to give huge weekly prizes to those that can win. Except new players can't get the card that ALLOW them to win, so it's the same people getting all the big freebies just like a premine. No way anyone else can 'fairly' get in on it.

closed beta is just a guise so prefered players can premine the game. either it's open to all or not open at all, if you're going to build a real money blockchain game IMO. totally unfair otherwise

They say 'oh you can win prizes free to play' BS. Those players have all the good cards no one else is able to get.

Then they're going to come out with IMX and say now you can get good cards - buy them from the players that farmed them for the last 6 months while you waited around - yea right!

Each one of these games will only be objectively successful if they get a lot of players. No game that I think of is designed in a way where you can invest like $500 and have the best available item which you would then build on for yourself. Instead the cash shop sells unlimited pie in the sky ideas the next big investment lol.

And the players are on board thinking this is great they are getting more stuff to invest in little do they know 2 years from now they will have something of little value. they are letting unrealistic expectations guide them blowing their money where common players will never bother,

GU will do better than most but I don't think it will do what you expect. Some other big company will do a launch right. They will do huge marketing leading up to an offical launch and everyone will start on even ground. Everyone will be aware what's comming. People will join THINKING they are getting in on something 'new' once they start seeing all the cards that they can't get, that are already out of print they will be turned off.

I know games of the past got big after some time but they usually had huge build up to launch. People were not starting 2 years ahead on launch day. They had momentum. These games on blockchain that are based around real money with so much already given away to early players in beta will never capture momentum. They will have huge turnover

Old games were not create items that you could never again get like limited edition like blockchain. ppl feel like they get ripped off those early people got all the OP items why should they even try.

There are many problem with the limited amount. any new player feels it's unfair. If they simply didn't KNOW, it's still enough to turn them off. On classical games it might be difficult to get, but still possible to farm. It wasn't never poof this item is gone forever.

I think all these games do it backwards. If I were to create packs, every pack would have a possibility of EVERY card ever inside. The NEWER cards would be the most rare because they are diluted with older cards.

this give NEW player incentive to buy packs and doesn't really screw ANYBODY or make anyone feel like some early ppl had an advantage.

Sovles so many problems doing it that way, if there is powercreep with new cards, they are much more rare than the older ones. it won't destory the value of old ones so much as make the new ones worth a lot more. The way they do it, u can, boom buy all the packs out in 1 month and there are tons of new cards creating total shock in value against the old ones all of a sudden

with every card in pack older players wont be buying packs so much cuz they have all those old cards. it will make sense for the new players to buy the packs and sell the new cards for high price so they can buy older less valueable cards. it just works better for new ppl.

Like uh add a new card to the pack every week. 1 year = 52 new cards and those cards will always be avail in future packs. It helps new players, the company will sell a ton more packs, it's different than what everyone else does. so much better. The value of some old cards can go up bcoz synergy with new ones

We will go over our model in a future medium post. What I can say here is that in the ranked arena we have a normalising mechanic so that winning at the highest level is skill focused. We also have a Leviathan arena and that is not, and isn’t intended to be, a fair fight for the little guy.

Capturing an Illuvial will require a Shard and they do have a cost. Probably the best way to think about it would be a game like Pokemon TCG. You have to buy packs of cards in order to get a deck together. In our game you don't buy packs and pray. You encounter them and capture them and you can make decisions about which Illuvials you want to own.

We can't release cost yet. But there are different Shards in the game that are more effective than others, and have different prices. One thing that doesn't depend on price is the rare captures such as holos. There are normalising mechanics in the ranked arenas to make it such that someone with a powerful deck can't just beat you with money.

Just to be clear. I only compare Illuvium to Pokemon TGC in the sense that you have to spend money to capture things. The actual game play is quite simple to explain. It's Pokemon (not the card game, just pokemon), but replace the turn based one on one fights with team fights that are auto battles.

PVP absolutely. We are putting. a lot of effort into making a game that requires you to understand the consequences of your choices. Playing a team of fire characters that all synergise might sound good, but if you're up against earth you might be better off pivoting. Humans will always form the most interesting and out there strategies.
PVE is always going to be a bit easier since the enemy doesn't strategise. If you hit an encounter, it is what it is. Some will be very hard to win, others easier.
The crafting side of things also has elements of strategy. And it can be a bit... gut wrenching with one particular mechanic.

I wanna be economic / market / asset creating advisor 🙂 I am rly good at it. I can help game flourish with fair asset distribution and creation and also a reasonable reward system (such as drop rate), including future new items. In such a way the asset increase in value but still create new content. There is always a war between ppl that just want to see new content vs others that want to see their investment increase

New players want to see the old stuff become outdated and old players want to see their stuff remain all powerful.

However i have views that probably conflict with your current path. Such as have a medium currency (your token) be inflationary, so you have more control over it. It is better to manage the game and give rewards denominated in your currency. Using a currency you can't 'mint', you will be stuck giving rewards with items. Your game won't be very competitve or investment worthy because you are inflating using rewards that will inevitably destory the value of existing assets.

Also with your method, you can't incentive player touraments. You might perhaps be able to agument with say 50% more of your token added to the prize pool of touraments in which players put up. This is inflation but it will be nulled as player base and the pool of currency grows. you reward currency instead of items in touraments to create a good aftermaket for your items. reverse won't work

without having inflationary currency which you can use to agument player 'wagers', in which you give incentive for them to make touraments and what not...it is SO much more control and predictablity plus it will make the items go up more in value. without that you will have your items be the one that fall in value against the currency.
