I wanted to upload a mod a while ago and failed and recently tried again. Now I want to finaly upload it. The problem is that everytime I try to upload it it says "Permission denied. Change id in id.txt or remove file to publish as new item". I do not have a file called id.txt in this mod. What can I do now?

  • does your account own the game or was it a gift
  • did your account ever buy any game on steam
  • does your windows username have non latin characters
  • do you use onedrive
  • are you using a virus scanner thing thats blocks the game from creating the file
..and some other things i dont remember now

i own the game; yes i have 18 games or so; Nope it's "Vincent"; no i dont use ondrive; that could be it how do i disable the windows firewall form blocking stuff in Teardown though?

bruh

lunar quest
#

also .. which version are you using?

earnest condor
#

didnt know that existed xD

#

nah i just signed let me try

#

the newest though

lunar quest
#

main menu .. bottom right is a number

#

as experimental might give an error on update (different though) .. still being investigated

earnest condor
#

true i forgot that... actually sad becuase i played Tearown for well over 400hours😂

lunar quest
#

publish should work though.. in experimental..

earnest condor
#

I'm on 1.5.3

lunar quest
#

thats normal stable so should work

#

1.5.4 is experimental (with the update failure)

#

well.. "should work" as in .. if it's not something else making issues

earnest condor
#

i doesnt work I'm goign to just send you a video real quik maybe that helps?

lunar quest
#

same error?

earnest condor
#

yep

lunar quest
#

did you run steam as admin at some point?

#

is your account in good standing.. as in level 1+ .. no bans or whatever

earnest condor
#

no I didn't run it as admin an my acounts is over level 1 and no bans

lunar quest
#

usually this error pops up if the game cannot write the file (id.txt) into the mods folder

earnest condor
#

running it as admin didnt help

lunar quest
#

well.. you shouldn't :P

earnest condor
#

oh okay

lunar quest
#

is the mod folder name something weird maybe?

#

or is it just normal latin characters

earnest condor
#

it has a space in it is that bad?

lunar quest
#

na thats allright

#

is windows defender saying something? ..

earnest condor
#

no

lunar quest
#

or do you have other virus apps installed that might block teardown from writing?

earnest condor
#

no

lunar quest
#

hm.. then i don't know really..

earnest condor
#

Do you by chance know where obs saves video files?

lunar quest
#

it was usually a username or onedrive issue

#

you can see it in settings

#

obs

earnest condor
#

thank you

lunar quest
#

output -> recording

#

global mod .. right?

earnest condor
#

yes

lunar quest
#

can you zip it and DM it to me .. i can try to publish and see if it's the files

earnest condor
#

yes totaly fine

lunar quest
#

i doubt thats the issue though

#

or just drop it in here

#

those germans and their rars ;D

earnest condor
#

xD

lunar quest
#

i was able to publish it.. but i used 1.5.4 as i didn't want to downgrade :P

#

don't upgrade..

#

lets try something else

#

close teardown

earnest condor
#

done

lunar quest
#

then go to your documents folder and rename the Teardown folder to TeardownOLD or something

#

the game will then create a new folder on next start

earnest condor
#

im gessing droping the stuff in teardownold into teardown?

lunar quest
#

not yet.. lets see if a clean folder works first..

earnest condor
#

okay

lunar quest
#

with the clean folder .. just create local global mod.. and publish it right away as private

earnest condor
#

okay

lunar quest
#

lets see if that works

earnest condor
#

no same error message

lunar quest
#

ok.. then it's something else

#

you can quit the game again and reverse what you did..

earnest condor
#

done

lunar quest
#

i'm out of ideas.. you could try the normal cleaning stuff like ..

  • clear steam download cache (steam -> settings -> download -> clear cache)
  • verify game files (steam -> game properties -> local files -> verify)
earnest condor
#

nothing worked

earnest condor
lunar quest
#

i would have to add you as contributor.. and i would be the owner

earnest condor
#

oh

lunar quest
#

and you can't transfer ownership

earnest condor
#

ah okay

lunar quest
#

sadly

#

but technically that should work.. i guess.. if there is not something else preventing you

#

but as said.. it's usually the game not being able to write the file into the folder

#

maybe you have another pc where you can install the game and publish something?

earnest condor
#

no sadly i don't

lunar quest
#

or login at a friends place?

earnest condor
#

that could work... I'll see what i can do

lunar quest
#

let us know how it goes..

#

this is always a tricky error

#

the id.txt is literally just a text file with the workshop item id

@earnest condor Do you have any VAC bans on your account or other limits?

earnest condor
#

don't know what VAC ban means but I never got banned on steam in any kind of way

The problem is solved.
