Depends. In my opinion, if it's high level I think players need time to come up with a character and build it. Low level might be less time?
I, personally, have given 1 week, and I have given 2 days heads up, for low level stuff.

Generally safe to err on the side of caution and give people about a week of advance notice, particularly if it's your first game post here as we'd have to approve it first. :)
