Hihi @cinder knoll i had a few questions about character creation that i wanted ask before getting started:

whats the general tone on the game? Is it lighthearted with room for serious moments? exclusively lighthearted? relatively serious? just want a feel for the game so i can make the appropriate character

is there any limitation on using expansion content such as the non-core book races and classes/subclasses?

is it possible i could exchange my magic item for a +1 to my weapon, armor, or change the starting armor available to my class within proficiency?

I’d say it’s a good mix of serious and light hearted/room for humor; the stakes are very real but there are some comedic elements sprinkled throughout

If you let me know which non core material you want to use I can give you a better idea

as for starting equipment feel free to pick any armor/ weapons you have proficiency with and specific material components will not be needed for spells and what not. And as for magic items I’ll allow you all to switch out your commons for one uncommon

My character's pretty straightforward, big, loud kill guy that hunts big monsters, beasts and spookums. Claims to have formerly been a big famous champion fighter adventurer, but came across an evil witch (probably not actually evil, he probably deserved it) who stole his strength and wealth. On top of that, his name seemed to be forgotten by the populace overnight, so he's kinda frustratingly starting back from the bottom as a barbarian. As a gem dragonborn, he's both dumb and weak, but resorting to sapping the psychic essence of his prey allows him to take on aspects of their strength and abilities. Meaning, when he rages, he's surrounded by the spectral bones/pelt of the last big thing he killed, which is currently a bear.

Would be happy if anyone wants to have met him previously, he'd happily join anyone who seemed competent enough to form a "hunting" party, as long as they can keep up with his pranks, boasting and love of booze.

Nice, my chosen common magic items were a shield and armor, so we'll say that I purchased those from your family smithy after cashing in my first big solo hunt, and we've been traveling around since then.
