There's an old race, from 3.5 originally, called the Fey'ri, elven tieflings basically, except you basically custumized your own badass, weather it was a tail, horns, claws, skin-texture and color, teeth or elven features (or all of the above)

My question is this basically:
Would You, as a dm, allow this is your standard game? Yay or Nay + shorts Why (Not?) would be appreciated!

Thnx!

not really - i'd tell them to design a tiefling, half-elf tiefling, or elf, and make the character design look however they want (barring wings)

customizing your character's appearance has no effect on mechanics so i always allow people to do what they want. if it's basically a tiefling, just make a tiefling

Yay!: looks balanced enough. Some of the spells provided are slightly too strong so might suggest scale those back down. But in general I dm high power scalling combat so can see it not being a problem in them.

In a normal game might Nerf them so that they don't out scale other races.

Nay.

  1. The species mechanics are out of date with current conceptions. (||Eg: Most built-in weapons are d6's, the barbed tail is a d4; most species are moving toward multi-use abilities & racial spells, while these are all still primed to 1/LR, et cetera.||) Being able to cast zephyr strike once while the Astral Elf is misty stepping multiple times will feel really bad and straight fixing all the 1/LR features to pb/rest might not be appropriate either; it would need a lot of retooling to fit in the current balance environment and as a DM I'm not gonna do that when you can instead...

  2. ... take an existing species block and flavor it. Take a Tiefling or Elf block and call it whatever you want, I'm cool with that.

That said, that's just me. Other DM's might say yes and they aren't wrong to do so. Whether or not you'll get to use it will depend from one DM to the next. :)
