#Gunblade Homebrew Item Concept Help!

Hey all! My first time posting something like this so sorry if I sound hella stupid. But I have a concept I’d like to include in my D&D campaign, which are Gunblades! If you’ve ever played Final Fantasy, I’m sure you know where this is going, but essentially, I’d like to include an item into my setting that is rather common in the specific region the campaign takes place in. Gunblades are a fusion of any melee-weapon with a simple gun. There are variations, such as a shotgun or different elemental “cartridges”, but the main concern is of course the balancing. It would have to do some additional damage, maybe a d4 or d6, and its range would have to be shorter range. For example, if someone wanted to just shoot with the Gunblade, it’d count as a ranged weapon attack that they’re proficient in. The range would be short; I’m thinking no less than 15 feet. The intention isn’t for range, it’s purely aesthetics and additional melee damage.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas they’d like to share with me? I’d appreciate any friendly critiques! Thanks!

Gunblade will be the common weapon for low rank soldiers.

While the high rank officers will get custom weapon. I have a few thought in mind:

  • Gunwhip
  • Gunspear,
  • Gun ( that shoot out knife like assassins movie)
  • gunhammer, gunbat,gunclub,...

Why limit ourselves with blade when we can go further beyond.

Hope I don't come out too strong

These are just suggestions

oh no, they wouldn't be militarized at all. without loredumping about my campaign, basically these scrappers would make the Gunblades. or at least, that's how they originated. they legit just meld them together or make it wholly from scratch, while using magic-empowered blackpowder that has dubious legislation by the law (the campaign takes place in a "badlands" sort of area). so tldr; the possibilities are endless, and anyone can use a gunblade, so long as they can use the "original" weapon and can withstand the recoil of unloading a bullet

A little off-topic pirates use multiple gun so they can shoot more.

#

Why not have a Boss using a big weapon and attach with 5 or 10 gun.

well, you're not wrong, but i'm specifically asking like, "is this a bad idea to add into my campaign"

#

and if it isn't, then how do i mechanically implement it

Matt Mercer did quite a balanced. I think if you tweak the damage and range, it will fit right in your world.
