proud cosmos
#

what log file? mainsail does not even start on my web browser (safari/ macosx)

#

i can see on the PITFT50 screen that the PI is statrted but i am unsuccessful whentrying to do ssh on a termuinal window

#

This is an automated message

#

#readme tells you to use the #NoLogsNeeded tag in such cases.

#

are you using wifi or an ethernet cable on your pi? did you verify your wifi credentials?

proud cosmos
#

i am using WIFI. no cable

#

yes i verify and redo the raspberry imager setup multiple times

fickle copper
#

ok did you try connecting using the ip instead of the hostname?

proud cosmos
#

no i cant find the ip address in macosx

fickle copper
#

you can either check your router: if the pi is connected and if which ip it obtained.
the otherthing would be attaching a keyboard to you pi (since you already have an display) and check the status of the network connection there.

proud cosmos
#

what is the command to get ip address directly on the ptTFT50 screen?

fickle copper
#

ifconfig

proud cosmos
#

ipconfig?

fickle copper
#

ipconfig is used on windows on linux its ifconfig

proud cosmos
#

macosx is unix based. the terminal window is a unix interface. when i used ipconfig it does not return any address but list a bunch of options...

fickle copper
#

but your pi is running on linux

#

and thats where you should type in the command.

proud cosmos
#

of course...

#

i will try that from there but for mainsail, it start from the web browser. it dont seem to communicate with the pi

#

when i try to login on the pi, it return login incorrect after entering the password that was define when creating the image on the pi imager...

fickle copper
#

thats what we're trying to figure out here.
you said you can't access mainsail using the hostname.local you don't know the IP either. So we need to check the status of the pi's network. you can either check your router or check the pi itself using a keyboard. so there is no webbrowser right now.

proud cosmos
#

i can redo the image again but i did it ten times without success. It is not the first time i setup raspberry pi but it is the first time i struggle like that...

fickle copper
#

using the rpi imager and selecting the mainsail image is just as plain simple as setting up a pi.

proud cosmos
#

i wonder if there could be a problem with the raspberry pi 4B

fickle copper
#

raspberry 4 has no issues as far as I know

proud cosmos
#

i agree with you the using the reaspberry pi imager is quite dumb and simple but i really dont know what happens this time. This same pi was working a month ago...

fickle copper
proud cosmos
#

when i type the user name and the password, i can see what is typed so i know what should be the user and password but if i click on the passwor after on the pi imager, it look like it is encrypted... is this correct?

#

i use Other specific purpose os for 3d printing then 3D printing , then MAINSAILOS , then mainsail OS 1.3.2 - raspberry pi 64 bits package

proud cosmos
#

on the Service tab, i select theActivate SSH and click on the first option to use a password. i guess the password is the one i defined in the general page.

fickle copper
#

its the password of the user that tries to login... so yeah thats correct.

fickle copper
#

on the pi shell you can see just your username... the passwords is not shown while typing

proud cosmos
#

at the end i click yes to write the SD card. it is difficult to miss anything in this imager so far.

fickle copper
#

yep...

#

the first boot takes a while to setup everything in mainsail and then usually its rebooting once before beeing ready

#

did that happen?

proud cosmos
#

when i slide the SD card into the rpi 4b, i the plug it and the reading start for about 5 minutes. after that i can see the reboot is complte whe the login prompt appear in the tft50 screen

fickle copper
#

then logging in with your credentials should be possible

proud cosmos
#

the user name and password must be the ones i set in the imager as far as i know...

fickle copper
#

again correct

proud cosmos
#

i redo the image right know.

fickle copper
#

try something simple this is noting very critical here. go with idk vincent as user and a simple password without any special characters.

proud cosmos
#

i agree with you... i did use very simple user/password combination...

fickle copper
#

since i dont know where you're from the keyboard layout could be in an issue to. eg differences between a QWERTY and QWERTZ layout.

proud cosmos
#

good point! i use a french keyboard but i avoid to use accents or specials characters such as è é. is only use basic characters.

fickle copper
#

you can type your password into the username field to check if the characters appear as you expect.

proud cosmos
#

it is rebooting rigth now. as far as i see, it is OK for each obk=ject installe

#

you were right... the A and the Q are inverted ont the usb keyboard i use

#

i map the correct key but still have login incorrect message...

#

i will redo the image again with a very short password an see what happens

fickle copper
#

👍

proud cosmos
#

unfortunately, it did not work 😕

#

now i really dont know what to do...

fickle copper
#

which version of rpi imager are you using?

proud cosmos
#

i reload the latest version yesterday with no better results

#

what is weird is i cannot connect using ssh from terminal window on my computer... it was working before

fickle copper
#

you wrote you cant ssh into the pi earlier and even then you would have the same user issues as when you try to login locally with the keyboard.

proud cosmos
#

i change the raspberry pi i was using and on this one it work...

#

but i cannot ssh fro a terminal window and when i enter http://mainsailos.local in a web browser, it does not open anything. normally, Mainsail should start.

#

a couple week ago, i was able to SSH and open mainsail in my web browser...

#

it remain like this forever

#

when i click on the link from Mainsail web page, Safari return the message that it cant find the server.

#

Actually, i am logged in the RPI4B and i sse that all the components are properly installed.

#

see picture above. it is a simple print screen

fickle copper
#

check the status auf the nginx webserver with sudo systemctl status nginx.service

#

also try a ping from your mac with ping zerog.local

proud cosmos
#

i try the command.it seems to work... the ping command run 64 bytes packets from local host. how can i stop it?

#

happens

#

the web browser start to load and then stop rigth away.

fickle copper
#

whats the status of nginx?

proud cosmos
#

i will have to restart the process. i come back with the info. Thanks for your help!

proud cosmos
#

I re-install everythihg and run the nginx command as you mentionned. the picture show the results. I ran the command directly on the pi4b since i can not access it via ssh

#

here is the picture

#

here is the ping command result

#

it look like it work ok

solar oracle
solar oracle
#

So run the same ping command on your mac again

proud cosmos
lyric tartan
solar oracle
proud cosmos
#

it return message ping: cannot resolve zerog.local: Unknown host

#

So obviously the raspberry pi is not connected to my network. I will redo the Raspberry imager again...

solar oracle
#

Did you check the ip address directly?

#

And no need to run the installer again, if you have a screen connected

proud cosmos
#

When i select activate SSH, i also click on use password for authentification. is it going to be the same password i use to access the network? or the one i use to acces MacOSX? or the raspberry pi?

solar oracle
#

It's the password you typed in during setup. The one you are right now using to login on the screen of the pi

#

But there is no need to reflash....

#

Just chill a few seconds and let us debug correctly

proud cosmos
#

i try to find the IP adress of the raspbberry but i dont find the proper command to give me the adress. I also used LANScan software on my mac but since it does not connect i dont get it

solar oracle
#

The command on the pi is ip ad

proud cosmos
#

i get an inet 127.0.0.1 adress . I think that normally on my network it should start like 192.168...

#

i also get a mac adress

solar oracle
#

You should get something like that:

3: wlan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000
    link/ether d8:3a:dd:89:8d:f7 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.3.85/24 brd 192.168.3.255 scope global noprefixroute wlan0
       valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
.....```So the ip for me would be 192.168.3.85
#

If you only see 127.0.0.1, you are not connected to the wifi

#

So run sudo rasp-config and under System Options try to set your wifi

proud cosmos
#

This is what i get from ip ad

solar oracle
#

Then try sudo rasp-config

proud cosmos
#

When i run sudo rasp-config it return "command not found"

#

i am running the raspberry pi imager on another sd card to reinstall again the whole setup. It is not the first ime i setup a raspberry pi but it is the first time i encounterd so much problems...

solar oracle
solar oracle
proud cosmos
#

sound better now. io have the configuration panel. What is the option to set the wifi network?

#

3 i guess

solar oracle
#

System Options

#

And then Wireless LAN obv

proud cosmos
#

i set the network id and password. now i just exit?

#

Finish?

#

Should i reboot the pi?

#

now on LANScan, i see the raspberry pi!

#

I can access it via ssh . Iit does not work if i go to my web browser and type http://xerog.local

#

after two or three try, zerog.local work.

#

i will have to reconnect the RPI4B to my printer to continue. Grateful thanks for your help.😀

proud cosmos
#

i reconnect the rpi4b and the PITFT50 to my printer... Now, it is like it is not connected to network again. i rerun the command sudo raspi config and reset network name and password and the rpi4b connected but i cannot see it from my web browser or LANScan.

#

I dont understand why the network and password define when preparing the SD card using the raspberry pi imager does not work. i re-do the image many time without success. is there a possible bug with the pi imager?

proud cosmos
#

I finally connected the pi to Mainsail but the display for my PITFT50 ia not the good one. it is identical to the previous pictures i post. i have no touch screen.🙁
