I'm trying to help a buddy set up his Ender3 V2 (NOT NEO) and for the life of me I cannot get the printer connected. I get Mainsail -> Moonraker X Klipper. My Ender 3 Pro went really smooth..... I'm getting

"Printer is not ready The klippy host software is attempting to connect. Please retry in a few moments."

Then it will turn red and complain about the MCU. I know I have that in there and correct because I checked it via SSH to the RPi 4. Flashed with a micro SD but having taken the screen off like it says to do I am not able to see any display. My E3P still has a working display.... Thoughts?

Pls post a screenshot from the error window, but I think Klipper itself is not running.

No device with this serial path:

serial = /dev/serial/by-id/usb-1a86_USB_Serial-if00-port0

is connected to your system. Or it will not communicate:
mcu 'mcu': Serial connection closed

at first, pls double check the serial path, if it fits, i would recommend to reflash the board. it looks like a wrong firmware, or it isnt flashed. (creality boards are the worst case to flash)

I just brought everything home with me. I can test it with flashing on an 8GB card and with cables I know work with my Ender 3 Pro. I didn't have any issue at all with the setup on my E3P. It was smooth as silk. So not sure where the disconnect is on this one. LOL!!

By chance do you know if the screen will be working on the E3V2? On my E3P it does. Not getting a screen when flashing Klipper but I saw someone say to take the screen off because it doesn't work.

#

Would be nice to see something on the screen to know that at least Klipper flashed successfully. I did flash Marlin back on it today before trying to flash Klipper again so I know the board isn't bricked.

do you double checked, if the serial path exists?

I pulled the path from the Devices tab at the top of the config.cfg. Yes that's my question, how do I know the board flashed if there is nothing on the screen? At least when I flashed Marlin back to it the screen was working and I knew it was flashed.

normal boards will rename the firmware file to firmare.cur. but as often as creality does not adhere to “standards”, it may well not do so either.

Ok. I guess I don't understand how to check that if I don't have a working screen or USB access to the board. I'm flashing via the micro SD.

I think it was the MOTHER FORKING USB cable.... 🤬 I have the board flashed with a webcam, X & Y working. Need to add the BLTouch to the config and then start to try to print.

Took me a bit of work, but I managed to go from Ender 3V2 and Jyers (Marlin) with the click screen, to Mainsail running Klipper and the Ender 3V2 now cranking out prints fine. Same cable to my Pi as before with the USB voltage blocker, so really, no changes to anything Ender. I replaced my extruder with a direct drive one, so that was nice, but required some new calibration. The Klipper people are excellent at helping with these changes!

Anyway, once you go MainsailOS and Klipper you're going to like it. It is very easy to tweak.

It's running a cleanup line on the left just fine. Then it goes to do the print and it won't stick. Cleaned the crap out of the glass too.

# lyric grotto Hey do you happen to have the BLTouch and would you mind sharing your config.cfg...

I use a BLTouch yes, and a newly installed Direct Drive extruder. All my bad non-sticking problems were solved (knock on wood!) by:

  • cleaning the crap out of my Wham Bam PEX bed
  • doing a cold PROBE_CALIBRATE after having done the Screw_Tilt_Calibrate to get as flat a bed as possible.

The number of values I tried for z-offset was at least 4, 3 of which never worked. The final value I chose however, was the winner winner chicken dinner!
